I believe that the way Ascended Gear is released goes against what made GW2 so fun in the past. It didn’t force you into doing stuff you didn’t want to do.

An Ascended weapon means I’ll be doing 10+% more damage than with my Exotic Weapon. That’s pretty huge in any kind of PvP.

So why aren’t there multiple pathways to getting these items? I mean from the start. From release. When Legendary/Ascended Weapons were released, there should have been a WvW method of getting them, or some sort of equivalent.

I don’t mean to say that it should be easy to get these items, but I find PvE boring—This is a game killer for me, and I know it is for some others, too.

Fix it, please.

“WvW-only” characters with always BiS gear, please. At the most, have gear be raised to the ‘BiS’ cap when entering WvW. No point to the gap otherwise, sans making cash off of people who think they can ‘pay2win’.

Hmm. I don’t like PvE grinding either. Personally, I would like some of the coming WvW overflow maps (layered option) to have gear similar to how PvP gear functions. In this way I could play+test builds/alts conveniently, in a WvW setting.

I got a precursor.
gift of exploration=fun to do
gift of battle=fun to do
gift of ascalon=fun to do

crafting 400 armour/weapon=expensive and not fun
100 runestones=100 gold= fun as you can do as you like
2000+ t6 mats= really,really not fun..lost interest.
481 obsidian shards=fun at first because of multi path ways to get..in the end not fun because of how many you need and how much karma got nerfed.

The grind put me off.

grind for gear is just not fun when in the end so many req’s are reaching for brass hops rather than playing the game for specific items.

note, sarcasm doesn’t translate well

personally I’m not too bothered with it all apart from dragonite, it’s drop rate compared with the other two is bordering on non existent and honestly feels like I have to grind out world bosses (on 6 alts) daily to get enough of it

Let us buy vendor mats (eg spools of thread) in 250 stacks, end the excessive clicking.

I still find it ironic that people use WvW as an excuse against Ascended equipment. They cite statistics, percentages, and such, but fail to remember one important thing… and that is that the one on one encounters do not matter in a mode of play that’s designed around group siege warfare. In the end, in WvW, the server with the biggest zerg wins.

False. Havoc squads can impact the capabilities of a team severely. If your massive Zerg is in EBG then you can have enemies slipping in to take down your keeps very quickly in the borderlands. Taking supplies is always devastating towards holding fortifications, and a small group nabbing frogs or dredge can create a nuisance.

And even then. Why do you think commanders ask for might and boons before a big engagement? Because that extra DPS can devastate a Zerg. Knockback, zone control, and all these things can break up ranks and make a Zerg much less ineffective when you’re blasting your enemy targets allover the place preventing them from stacking in place.

Zerg play is very key, but do not underestimate the small things. Don’t underestimate damage percentages, don’t underestimate extra might, don’t underestimate the power of casting stealth, invisibility, portals, blinds, aegis, and all these things. They can change a battle completely. I for example tend to carry ballista prints so that when my server is capping SMC and the enemy is holding up, we can throw down ballistas at the entrances and use a guardian to keep them trapped inside while we block out their push from the outside and prevent any dead from coming inside. What about tapping keeps to prevent enemy reinforcements from returning as quickly? That’s highly key too.

Well it wouldn’t be very fair for the crafting crowd if they make it so that you can exchange a bunch of badges for the ascended piece considering ascended weapon cost over 90g + 30k karma and 20 skill points to make.

I think they should make it so that if you can obtain, all four components (example: deldrimor blade, deldri hilt, ascended inscription and vision crystal) of the weapons/armor/trinket (through the trading post or craft) you could trade them together with 100,000 honor badges to an NPC to get the ascended weapon of choice.

So to get the (later) complete set of 6 armor pieces and 3 weapons, you just need 900,000 badges and whatever the cost for the pieces is from the TP.

For the vision crystal, if one can’t level up crafting, they can exchange 500 of each bloodstone dust, dragonite ores and empyreal fragments and 20 skill points + 50,000 badges of honor for the Vision Crystal. Or 200,000 badges of honor + 20 skill points if they can’t afford the mats.

Getting Ascended gear of any sorts simply isn’t fun. I can see why people want it in PvE but WvW is PvP. An even playing ground is key to a successful PvP format. Aside from the obvious artificial barrier Ascended gear introduces it generates even more power creep (like there wasn’t already enough: WvW server buffs, bloodlust, WXP ranks, food, etc.) something that is already harming the game now and will only get worse over time if it doesn’t stop.

The final alternate recipe would be mystic forge, and replace blades and hilts with bloody versions made from 100 badges and the hilts and blades.

Total cost more than usuall is 700 badges, which essentially alliws you to make it without crafting.

Since it’s more than obvious we will see new fractals in next update, don’t you think it would be the right time to release ascended armor as well? Giving people space for 6 more infusions will increase the max agony resistance that may be needed in new Fractals. Also Ascended tier was introduced with Fractals back in 2012. What do you think?

For some reason Anet went against their manifesto promise of “play how you want” when it comes to earning Ascended gear, this time last year they even admitted the mistake of how poorly they implemented the items by not allowing multiple paths/play styles in earning them, yet here we are a year later and no lesson has been learned. They almost jumped on the right track by placing the items in the Laurel and guild mission vendors, though its time gated its much better than say the back pieces where one is forced into Fractals though I hear this is changing soon. But then they reverted back to " we do not want you to play how you want" and forced players into crafting, a time gated, expensive grindfest. I am really hoping Anet applies the “play how you want” in earning the armor but I have doubts.

Now on to my rant on why this is unfair to WvW’s. What really grinds my gears is when players say “buying ascended items with badges would be to easy” oh really???? How is earning say a 1000 badges any easier than running a champ train zerg in any given zone? IMO its not easier but significantly harder. PvE has so many avenues of earning gold for doing very mindless things, not to mention an abundance of areas that drop the T6 mats needed to craft to 500, WvW has a very low to practically nonexistent drop rate for T6 mats and earning gold is a much much slower process than PvE. I would also like to top this all off by adding that in PvE your practically guaranteed “x” amount of gold per hour + drops that can be sold and used towards what ever your progressing towards, WvW all progress can come to a halt if up against an organized server, I had nights where we were lucky to take 1-2 towers and a few camps.

So yeah I’d say being able to buy the items with badges and gold or Laurels is more than a fair way to earning the items, the way I look at it is PvE’rs do not have to ever step into WvW to earn anything besides map completion to get the best stuff in game, oh did I mention how they also get to enjoy all the buffs that WvW’s earn for them!?! Let WvW’s do their thing with their own realistic fair path in earning BiS items.

Some players are more than willing to pay 200g to lvl another craft to 500 and 300g to get 6 pieces of ascended armor. Assuming the cost will be similiar to the weapons. Still I believe cloth prices will triple once ascended armor come out.

Allow me to disagree.

I can’t help but feel that saying WvW was never meant to be and never will be balanced is essentially a non argument. No game designer promotes his game as imbalanced. You don’t design a game to be imbalanced. When you start it out, you want it to be as balanced as it possibly can be.

That WvW favours numbers and that usually a large group defeats a small group doesn’t legitimate even more imbalance. If it did there wouldn’t have been the Confusion or Bloodlust nerfs. And I’m not even arguing the point that larger teams have an advantage.

What I’m saying is that you need an even starting ground. Everyone’s base equipment should be the same. If you can fool the opposition to run into your zerg more power to you. But on the other hand with some attention and map communication you can dodge the zerg alright if you want to. And the introduction of the ruins and the Edge of the mist map clearly shows that small party play is indeed a part of WvW. And in small party play balance is of the essence.

If you want protection stay with the larger group. But don’t introduce gear that throws off balance where it actually is (or should be) and matters: in the small fights (although I want to make clear that in my opinion the power creep is bad even in larger battltes).

precisely. If they existed, I’d probably want Legendary armor as well.

I say “want” – what I really mean is “covet without any chance of actually getting it”

edit: come to think of it, I think I want a legendary piece of armor more than a legendary weapon. But that migth be just because I know the armor don’t exist at all :P

Ascended armor is not about PvP, PvE or WvW. If that’s what you think it’s for then yes, it’s not for you at all.

Ascended armor is made for fractals. Stats make no difference, but the infusion slot allows us, the fractal players to advance.

Regardless on what you think of ascended weapons or armors, it’s is purely made with fractals in mind.

In my opinion they should keep the stats the same as the exotics, so people would stop complaining…

Whats the point of the additional infusion slots beyond what we already have? Are they raising the bar and removing the barrier for level50+?
Jade Maws agony at 50+ is insta-kill regardless of agony resist…so unless they remove this barrier, it makes Ascended armor even more pointless.

This. Ascended gear isn’t needed anywhere else. Leave it in fractals. Just like you leave your PvP trinket in the mists. A hard split can work both ways.

I’m pretty indifferent when it comes to ascended equipment of any kind. I’ll admit, I want it, but for one character and one character only. Said character already has all ascended trinkets and one legendary weapon. Said character also has map complete and will have a commander tag, along with a second legendary and ascended weapons, and will have ascended armor. Why? Because I want one completely badkitten character strictly for bragging rights, and nothing else… any questions?

not looking up the dev statement, but the cop-out answer is that they want you participating in all areas of the game. in reality though, it’s just a cover for throwing things in all willy nilly for experimentation and not wanting to invest the time and resources for multiple paths to achieve the same end results and rewards. it’s basically drop something in with the least amount of effort and move on. you can tell where priorities are given when there were 4 new teams hired to churn out living story to keep the gem sales machine churning while most other things seem to be tossed by the wayside. i know things take time and money to develop, but it appears the “bottom line” people are unwavering in this over itemized and give less for more agenda.

That did not really answer my question, I see no good reason to put ascended armour in the game. So why should people want this. Beyond the obvious “something to do” part.

I like ascended armor. I really enjoy to craft my own gear. If they keep the time for production it will not be a big deal for me. Ascended items are mid-term goals in opposite to legendary items (long-term) and exotic (short-term) ones.

I already hoarding all needed materials. Therefore it will cost me much less than 200 gold for leveling – maybe around 3-5 gold. Spools are expensive. I am also waiting for level 500 for jewelers and cooks.

The gear progression via tiers will be completed soon. The progression will be shifted to runes/sigils and infusions then.

Sigh. Everything ascended is terrible for people like me. It makes me resent the game and ANet. I know it’s coming, I’m not arguing against it anymore since my arguments are never acknowledged or in any way addressed. I and people like me are simply not important.

False. Havoc squads can impact the capabilities of a team severely. If your massive Zerg is in EBG then you can have enemies slipping in to take down your keeps very quickly in the borderlands. Taking supplies is always devastating towards holding fortifications, and a small group nabbing frogs or dredge can create a nuisance.

And even then. Why do you think commanders ask for might and boons before a big engagement? Because that extra DPS can devastate a Zerg. Knockback, zone control, and all these things can break up ranks and make a Zerg much less ineffective when you’re blasting your enemy targets allover the place preventing them from stacking in place.

Zerg play is very key, but do not underestimate the small things. Don’t underestimate damage percentages, don’t underestimate extra might, don’t underestimate the power of casting stealth, invisibility, portals, blinds, aegis, and all these things. They can change a battle completely. I for example tend to carry ballista prints so that when my server is capping SMC and the enemy is holding up, we can throw down ballistas at the entrances and use a guardian to keep them trapped inside while we block out their push from the outside and prevent any dead from coming inside. What about tapping keeps to prevent enemy reinforcements from returning as quickly? That’s highly key too.

There is no logic.

A 10% increase in power from might stacks is really significant but a 10% increase from gear is not, because might stacks.

In PVE, a 1% increase in DPS from picking the right gear (say having a beserkers ring vs. a knight one) is much more imporant than the optional 10% DPS from getting ascended gear, because zerkers.

as I don’t really care about the stats I don’t think ascended armor is that big of a deal. if people want to grind for it, by all means. thats just more people in the game i can play with. you can do anything in this game with exotics (or rares if you are skilled enough) except the jade maw fractal. Most other cases of agony you can dodge or avoid altogether with enough vigor.

now if the armors actually looked cool I might want them, but I’m not a fan of any of the designs we’ve seen so far..

Whats the point of the additional infusion slots beyond what we already have? Are they raising the bar and removing the barrier for level50+?
Jade Maws agony at 50+ is insta-kill regardless of agony resist…so unless they remove this barrier, it makes Ascended armor even more pointless.

That’s the whole idea. The cap will be removed.
