So far, I haven’t seen one dev post in the 3 weeks since the April patch about this topic: Since transmutation stones are gone, there is no way to get sigils and runes out of WvW or karma gear to either salvage to sell or transfer to a new set of grear.

This is a big problem.

This doesn’t just apply to karma gear that you buy, there’s a lot of karma gear that are just random drops. Yes, you can use and upgrade extractor, but that costs about 25 G a pop, so that’s not really a solution. Before, it was possible to remove these using a convoluted transmutation process, but more importantly, if we wanted to change or upgrade gear, we could just use the transmutation stone. No big deal. Well, no more.

Here’s just one, real world example: My 2H weapons now holds 2 sigils. I’d like to take the bloodlust sigil from one and put it in the other. Nope, can’t do that. No salvage kit will salvage WvW or Karma gear. I have 6 characters I regularly play with 2-3 sets of armor and multiple weapon sets, many of which are sigil stacking. Almost all my gear has been purchased with WvW badges or karma.

I’m not alone. There are many in my same predicament.

And what about the future? What about the newer players, or the unaware players? Is there a big red warning box that says, “Don’t put any runes or sigils in this gear if you ever want to get them back?” No.

So to save us all the hassle, either make a way for us to salvage WvW and Karma gear or just take it out of the game completely.

Another solution would be to just bring back transmutation stones. Why not have both in the game.

Thanks

I think the official response is to buy an expensive extractor. I think it would be much better to allow all gear to be salvaged. Even if it didn’t give anything back except for the rune / sigil.

Anything I post is just the opinion of a very vocal minority of 1.

I don’t think that’s the official response, because, as far as I’ve been able to find, ANet hasn’t expressed an opinion on the topic since 15 April. Based on the price of the upgrade extractor, it seems more likely that that gem-store item’s purpose is for removing infusions from ascended gear — +10 agony infusions are worth over 10g, but few other upgrades will ever cost that much.

I speculate that ANet simply didn’t consider how many players would want to salvage upgrades from karma/wvw armor. My guess is that they are currently brainstorming about a number of different wardrobe related issues, trying to figure out a direction to proceed, and then they’ll let us know. I expect them to respond with some variation of “we’re aware of the issue and…” one of the following:

  • We have no plans to adjust this — you’ll have to buy new upgrades.
  • We plan to add runes/sigils to the wardrobe, but the implementation is complicated and we have no ETA.
  • We plan to allow people to salvage and forge all gear in the future. Design for this is easy, but a bug-free implementation will take time.

Yeah something needs to be done about it sooner or later. I have quite a bit of WvW armor just sitting in my bank taking up precious storage simply because I can’t salvage them to get my 2-3g runes back.

And I don’t want to delete them all only to find out later on that GW2 decided to do a complete U-turn on this whole thing and make it salvageable (learnt from that mistake when I deleted a soulbound gathering tool, as I wanted to create a new character but there was no way to transfer the gathering tool itself – later on of course, GW2 decided to make them account bound – but the damage was done, it was too late to rectify, and the ticket I sent in to get the gathering tool back that I spent my hard earned money on, was denied).

Till then, I suppose my WvW gear will collect dust and clog up my bank along with the countless stacks of ascended materials I have no use for, and the stacks of blade shards we still have no vendor for. #storyofourlives

Edit: Forgot to mention, yes the upgrade extractor is completely useless because it costs over 20g to purchase – and let’s be real, the only thing you’d want to waste that amount of money on would be an infusion, not some rune or sigil that’s worth a mere 2-3g. Spending 20g to get 2-3g back? No wonder people don’t buy those upgrade extractors, lol.

Forever a supporter of more male skimpy armor

No dev response in any of the threads on this topic. I do check them out. Almost all of the dev tracker has to do with hacked acokittens and PvP. A few new, non-committal responses on transparency, and that’s pretty much it.

Simple solution:

Karma gear salvages into karma.
WvW gear salvages into Badges of Honor.
Order/Cultural gear salvages into mats (this shouldn’t be an issue considering you pay with gold).

I’m sitting on over 4k Badges of Honor that I’d really like to use, but not being able to salvage the upgrades is preventing me from spending my badges. No one should be expected to pay for the ridiculously overpriced extractor (250 gems for 5? Sure. 250 gems for 1? GTFO).

That is a good idea.

What happens to these items if you transmute a new skin on to them? Can it still not be salvaged?

An extractor cost about $3.75. If its as big a problem for you as you’re taking on, that seems an easy enough solution.

But you don’t seem to want to pay that, nor convert gold for it, or even just buy more upgrades. Instead you want ANet to make it even cheaper for you. Dunno, seems a little selfish to me.

Just buy another sigil. You can’t tell me you can’t afford one more sigil. Come on.

Do you really consider spending $20 or 130ish gold just to be able to salvage upgrades from gear (armor in this case) that should’ve been salvageable in the first place reasonable?

Dunno, seems pretty stupid to me.

Still no solution. No response to any of the threads on this subject. Funny thing, just got on my ranger, that I never play. Got a full set of Melandru Runes. I think most of the armor is karma, and I know the weapons are WvW. Love to transfer those runes to another character, but can’t. Since it has been over a month, now, I guess this is the status quo? So, I just throw out half my weapons and buy new sigils for my 2 handers? Yeah, great.

I can’t say I’ve ever received any Karma Gear that just dropped. But, it would be nice to salvage Karma gear into Karma, and WvW Gear into BoH, or something.
