I am a casual WvWer. I like going in, wandering around with the zerg for a while, occasionally getting to do something epic or sneaky. Is fun, and I’m not anti-WvW at all.

But lately I’ve been in WvW for map completion, and it is driving me absolutely bonkers. Checking 2-3 times a day to see if any POIs or such are close to my colour, dying repeatedly on my way to something I need, getting bulldozed by a zerg as I’m passing through… etc, etc, etc </Yul Brynner>

Maps that should have taken me the work of an afternoon to clear, I’ve been poking at for weeks. It has become a frustraing chore, instead of a fun part of running around an area.

So it got me thinking that it could be useful for a player to have access to something that takes them out of combat status.

It would have to come with checks and balances, so it couldn’t be abused too badly (people will always find a way to exploit things somehow)- but things like not being able to attack, or making enemy players invisible so you couldn’t use it for spying, and having a time limit and/or a cool down, so you couldn’t just flip back and forth. Maybe make it something you have to toggle in the WvW screen, before you gate through, and it won’t turn off until you leave.

Just something to make map completion less drama in the WvW areas. shrug

As you already mentioned, there would be a ton of exploits (I can think of several off the top of my head).

Any sort of ‘fix’ for these exploits would be such a difficult and time-consuming process to design and code (such as removing all enemies/siege on the map).

I do not think it is worth the resources to design such a system that will have very limited usage

I can agree with a non-combatant IF knockdown is still enabled.

You could have epic golf rounds with players.

I actually miss that part. I remember being really hopped up on adrenaline trying to sneak my way through the entire enemy territory without getting caught; to get to the top left or top right of a map to get a SP. Then you get there, and you’re like “should I WP and sneak up the other side, or take the shortcut straight through their home base?”
The annoying part was when you needed a poi inside a tower but your server never owned it. Sometimes you just have to build your own golem and take it yourself, or wait a week.

Yeah because spies on map chat and potentially TS aren’t already bad enough. Let’s let people track enemy movements without the risk of being killed.

I’m against it because it will ruin the WvW experience for many people. All of us with world completion did it just fine. We either helped our server take the map or kept checking for us to take possession of what we needed. It honestly only takes seconds to look and there are even online apps that can give you real time status updates. Unless you have all of the materials for your legendary, I see no need to be in a rush.

If you want Map Completion in WvW, and I’m on the opposing server, you need to get by me if you want the POI. Unfortunately for you, every red name tag I see is like a walking loot bag. Same goes for me when I get run over by the enemy Invaders.

I would suggest you make some WvW friends, and ask them to run with you. Otherwise, talk with a Commander and ask him to take the zerg to certain POIs that you need.

In GW2, Trading Post plays you!

Agree with you OP, it definitely needs to happen or WvW needs to be taken off completion entirely.

Edit: They could do what elder scrolls online is doing for people that cry over possible exploit. Make a person that flags as non-combatant as invisible to players that aren’t and vice versa, elder scrolls is working with a system like that so players of different factions can’t see you and vice versa either, it’s a fantastic design.
