Q:
WvW Single Target Area / Two vs Two
Obsidian Sanctum…
[TSFR] – Jade Quarry
I actually really love this idea. I spend so much time roaming around WvW looking for 1v1s or 2v2s with a friend and it can be pretty hard to find people away from zergs. This however would be perfect! You could enter with a party for a max of 5v5 and have duels with your PVE armour! Great idea IMO
So you want Wow arenas?
If so I suggest you play that game.
Anet can barely pull of what it’s doing now let alone adding arenas to the game.

I have never played WoW before and I don’t intend to. I was simple saying that Duels with PVE armour would be cool.

If this is a system you are looking for in terms of small scale 2v2. 3v3 and 5v5 there is no better game on the market then wow for that type of game play or duels.
Just saying it like it is…..

Why do you need your PVE gear anyway? You can go to sPVP and duel all you want,
1) I am not only looking for 1v1s or whatever, but I would enjoy them. I love the rest of the game as well, and I know I would hate the boring WoW combat.
2) I’m sick of people who think people with ideas for GW should go play a different game. GW2 is absolutely amazing, and I don’t really care if it doesn’t change in any way, But some changes could also be cool and there is no harm in suggesting them or talking about them.
And in answer to Maddoctor, It would be nice to use PVE gear as it is gear you spend time working for.
Edit: Another reason would be that I do not enjoy PvE as much as WvW and so Its nice for me to put all my time spent grinding for gear to use

If you’re unable to do outnumbered fights I suggest you learn your class and drop the zerker gear.
There is a difference between outnumbered fights, and 1v50.

To clarify – Wow combat is about 10x’s more complex in a PvP setting or heck in PvE setting then GW2 could ever be.
GW2 is basically training wheels in terms of difficulty.
The suggestion for other games is simple. If i wanted to go fast I wouldn’t buy a malibu – I would buy a corvette. So the options this player is looking for is done in other games and done very very very well.
Also, From your post you apparently never played Wow – so how do you know you would hate the combat system?

Well first of I apologies for the WoW hate, I should add that it is just in my own opinion that I would find it boring, I am not saying it is for others. I haven’t played the game no but have seen others play it and it didn’t grab my attention. I am not looking for something that is done in other games because I want to play Guild Wars 2. That is the game I want to play and I love playing it. The only reason for my post was to say one thing. Duels with PVE armour would be cool. I am not wanting to switch to another game or play GW differently, I only want to say that that extra option would be enjoyable to me
WoW is all about the gear, terrible game. Shame on you Azreel for trying to send a player there.
OP, I agree with mcarswell that Obsidian Sanctum is a great place for dueling, just head to the arena area. Otherwise you can use the Custom Arenas function in Heart of the Mists to design an arena for as many players as you like (that does costs gems however).

8+million active accounts and 10yrs+ says it’s not so terrible.
Wow PvP is not all about gear – that’s generally the stereo-typical response of those who found it too difficult or complex to handle.. Also the match making system there is years ahead of what we have in TPvP.
I don’t even play the game anymore(although quite frankly I am starting to think of going back because the current crop of MMORPGS is terrible). But, you have to give the devil his due.
It’s offers exactly the type of game play this player was looking for.
Pound for Pound no matter how much I may like or not like it – it is still the best mmorpg on the market and the most bang for your buck. It offers something for everyone.
Quite frankly the reason I said the above is GW2 should stop trying to focus on being different(which isn’t working) and just focus on being fun.

Yea but obsidian sanctum is rather empty except at peak times. I don’t really enjoy sPVP as much though so I don’t play much of it. Have been enjoying edge of the mists though. People all over the map and many in groups of 2 or 3. I really love that map Anet added
No, WoW doesn’t offer what I want at all. Guild Wars does. And what guild wars have managed to do it be different and fun and visually beautiful. WoW has not managed any of this, all it is, is a button spam game. Smash your hand on the keyboard and there you go! A PvP battle done!

Not about the gear eh? Enter a battleground without PvP gear, or only with the battleground gear and try going against someone in arena armour. You won’t stand a chance. It’s all about pvp power.
If you think you can defend WoW on a Guild Wars 2 forum, you are going to have a bad time.

Enter WvW in masterwork and go against someone in Exotics or Ascended and and you won’t stand a chance.
Pot meet kettle.
In case you are not familiar with how it works – In PvP I only need to have 1 more hp then my opponent to win.
So for example say we are equally skilled. The person in Masterwork will always loose to the person in Exotics due to having less hps and doing less damage. The person in exotics will be able to bring the other players HP pool to zero before his own reaches that level.
GW2 has power creep. Don’t kid yourself in thinking it doesn’t.

Obsidian Sanctum…
Even Obsidian Sanctum was designed mainly for GvG battling. Anet does almost nothing to support small scale battling and instead caters to Zergers.

Ridiculous statement. I can have full exotics in a couple days in GW2 for WvW. In WoW you have to grind months and months to get enough gear to even be close to being competitive.
Now for arena, in GW2 I can enter the PvP lobby and instantly be boosted to 80 on any character or class I like with full, free access to the same gear that everyone else has access to. It’s completely fair and there’s no having to run raids for months or even years on end to get super rare trinkets and all that old school nonsense and you still will be destroyed by players with heirloom gear.
There’s a reason WoW has lost 1/3 of it’s playerbase in the last couple years as better games have come out. It’s a very very old game.
