Xpac - How much? Free? P2P?
We don’t even know 100% it is an expansion pack. Saturday morning is when they tell us a lot of stuff. No one will be able to answer you until the PAX panel is done.
I can understand them keeping surprises for us, but to keep whether or not we have to pay for it is kind of offbeat…
I can understand them keeping surprises for us, but to keep whether or not we have to pay for it is kind of offbeat…
What woul.d be offbeat would be revealing the business plan for whatever it is before telling us what it is.
“Hi, there’s this thing coming, not gonna tell you what it is until the day after tomorrow, but its gonna cost $30.”
Cost is irrelevant until you know what you are paying for. Without knowing what it is you cannot determine whether or not a given price ($0 or otherwise) is appropriate for you.
Prepare to be disappointed. Jan 24, 2015, watch tears drop all over the forum. I hope there are a lot of mods around for the meltdown.

Hey we have this giant surprise for everyone on Saturday but to appease Savvon.3718 we are going to tell you a part now.

And yet, believe it or not, there are publishers these days that actually announce pre-order bonuses before saying anything else about their new game. So stupid…

The big announcement is……. [drumroll] ………Guild Wars 2 is going SUBSCRIPTION-BASED!!
I just can not understand the forum logic today.
What I do not understand is the lack of logic with this forum.
Whatever the big surprise is, it should be shared with us if it is a free update, P2P or a one time purchase.

And logic dictates that they will tell us the cost when they tell us what it is on Saturday.
I’m assuming it’s a paid expansion.
Their profit predictions for q3 2015 are significantly more than what’s happened the last year or so (or at least so I’ve heard) and I doubt that the massive profit increase would be purely from more sales of original GW2 boxes.
What the expansion will be is a completely different matter. Anet before have maid free-standing expansions before (Nightfall, Factions) but also have made traditional expansions like EotN.
Just be patient. 1 day until we find out.

Anet is well known for lack of any information until the actual announcement. Its their policy, always has been. No amount of player requests is going to change that.
However, it doesnt make sense to announce a price of a product before the actual product is announced. Its like Apple saying they are launching something, a new idevice, software, whole new line of products, etc. but they aren’t hinting at what it might be. But it can be yours for only $59.99.

That would be so funny I would stop playing so that I could keep laughing.
ANet said pay once and your good. It doesn’t necessarily mean they wouldn’t charge for expansions. They said and did the same for GW1.
To be honest, I would definitely pay the full $60 retail price for an expansion. Gladly!
We don’t even know if it is an expansion. But who knows? Guess we’ll have to find out on the 24th.
IF it is an expansion pack, i assume it will be B2P, i cant imagine it being subscription (if it is, im not buying) and it wont be free as that would just b another living story
though thats IF its an expansion
Kiel Replacement Movement
I remember a dev saying they didn’t want the community separated like it was in GW1, and that was one of the many reasons they wanted to avoid expansions.
Somehow things changed though with the introduction of Season 2. Those who don’t log in to unlock it are still being separated from those who don’t.
So it could possibly be a paid expansion.

No they aren’t, you can do all the new content in a party with someone that has it. You just can’t get the achievements. All the open world stuff is open to all too.
A solo instance isn’t “being separated from the community”

I wasn’t sure of the specifics about it, but thanks for clarifying. It’s still segregating the players though. I don’t see how you can say it’s not. They cannot experience the story as the rest of the community, unless they use some workaround with someone else, or buy it with gems. They cannot even get the achievements and rewards from them, which makes it even worse.
The fact that it’s a solo instance is irrelevant, since it has an essential component of GW2, which is the story. If a player cannot share that same experience on his own, then he is essentially being separated from that experience. I don’t see how that is any different than a WoW expansion (or other MMO expansions). You will still be separated from the experience of the quests and their stories.
This is basically how GW1 worked. The campaigns were mostly about the stories, and many players experienced them solo, but the community was still segregated due to this.
Imagine if dungeons worked the same way, and the rewards from achievements were restricted from players who didn’t buy the access to dungeons. That wouldn’t be so different than what is happening now.
(lol, this post got way too long than i wanted it to be.)

They are going to share the surprise. On the 24th. Learn to read please. The 24th is their date for announcing information about Heart of Thorns. Why would they tell you everything before that date?
What have I just read :0!

You did hear about this whole thing on the weekend?

What I do not understand is the lack of logic with this forum.

It is being shared with us. It’s being shared on Saturday. You know, before every single thing is announced, people don’t know what it is. Companies use platforms like PAX to make an impact.
Should this company make less of an impact because people can’t wait for announcements?
It’s not like the expansion (if it is an expansion) is coming Saturday. They’re announcing it, at which time you’ll have time to save up for it.
What the hell is the rush?
Seeing as this game is on a GW1 business scale pretty sure it will cost money and i hope it does , and have guild halls n gvg lol :P
With the game going on sale for 75% off for the weekend of the announcement, if they are releasing an expansion, there’s no way they’re going to give it away for free. It’ll likely range from $15 to $60 (full expansion) depending on what type of an expansion it is.
I’m okay with paying the same price as the original game, if the content is at least as big.
Saturday
Of course is an Xpac.
I mean, double XP? 75% off? Obviously, they want people to get ready for the expansion.
And of course, isn’t going to be free. This is a B2P game, not a F2P.

There are even free to play games that charge for expansions.

The original GuildWars2 Game will be cheaper. So, the xpac will come and you must buy it. Because people who dont play GW2 can buy the original Game and the Xpac without spending much money for the Standard Version

Nope. You can play Lotro without buying an expansion and just not get that part of it. But the base game is still there.

Yes they did say it. Have you seen the report?
http://www.kdbdw.com/bbs/download/192028.pdf?attachmentId=192028
“Also, in 2015, NCsoft is expected to roll out an expansion pack for Guild Wars 2, which
has sold more than 3mn copies since its release in 2012 in the US and Europe. We
assumed in our 2015 earnings estimates Guild Wars 2 expansion pack sales of around
2mn copies (US$50 per copy), and note that the expansion packs for Guild Wars 1 have
sold almost as much as the original game in the year of their release.”

Umm, it is not NcSoft who wrote that.
Also, they do that every year.
“These claims simply wrong. Lets review the written record. There have been 21 reports on NCsoft released since GW2 launched in August 2012. Of those, the following 8 mention a prediction for an expansion:
December 18, 2012 — “Furthermore, we expect NCsoft to release an expansion pack for Guild Wars 2 in Europe and the US in 2H13.”
February 6, 2013 — “An expansion pack for Guild Wars 2 is slated for a 2H release in the US and Europe.”
April 25, 2013 — “…the release of the Guild Wars 2 expansion pack has been pushed back to 2014 from 2013.”
August 16, 2013 — “We believe the market will start to reflect the strong earnings momentum for 2014, underpinned by: 1) the launch of the Guild Wars 2 expansion pack, …”
October 11, 2013 — “An expansion pack for Guild Wars 2 is also set to go on sale in 2014.”
November 18, 2013 — “Looking further ahead in 2H14, the expansion pack for Guild Wars 2 is due to be released in the US and Europe…”
April 25, 2014 — “In 2015, the company is expected to launch the expansion pack for Guild Wars 2…”
January 8, 2015 — “Also, in 2015, NCsoft is expected to roll out an expansion pack for Guild Wars 2…”
The pattern is pretty clear. KDB has always written that an expansion pack is a year out from the date of the report. As time passes and it becomes obvious there will not be an expansion, they push back the target. When it was clear that 2H14 wasn’t happening by the time of their April 2014 report, they pushed their date back to 2015."
Can I have an answer?
Does nobody really know if the xpac cost money up front?
The only ones who know would be ANet and their nearest and dearest (although I think even they might not know). And no ones talking until tomorrow.
Saturday morning is when they tell us a lot of stuff.
18:00 hours where I live unfortunately… stupid time zones.

CHO CHO! ALL ABOARD!
If want to be pleasantly surprised go with these assumptions:
- They are announcing the game is closing
- There is going to be a new living season 3 that will remain free and it will be avail Dec 2015
- They are releasing a new digital version of the game that is the same game but with all the missed living story sections people who have not been logging in might have missed that includes everything we already have
- The game has gone free to play and now everything is a micro-transactions, down to loot drops being able to be enabled for each week for a low price of 2000 gems
- There is a new expansion for the low price of 299.99
- They just wanted to take a road trip and its nice to see everyone, and thanks for all the fish
Disclaimer just in case: joking. Aka assume its not what people think and then you will be happier if you are wrong. Good hunting!
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.

In Guild Wars 1 expansions cost $60. But they were massive, and you could play them without owning the original.
So really it probably depends on size of the content coming. The outlook is better if the price tag is higher imo.
Lets hope it’s an expansion and lets hope it cost money and they plan on focusing more on that. If it’s some type of free expansion / patch it’s getting payed with the cash-shop with all the negative effects of that as we have seen over the last 2 years.
How fun is an expansion / big patch if all it really does it add more maps to grind grind grind gold (as that is what the cash-shop focus resulted in).
No I do hope it does cost money and so it also means all the stuff we would else have seen being adding in the cash-shop to pay for it will not be in the game as fun rewards and stuff to hunt down in the game and less focus on gold.

Just wait and see omg..
I have not played WoW for over 6 years and I don’t plan to return.
There are even free to play games that charge for expansions.
That turns them into B2P games -_-
You are wrong. B2P=you buy the original game once and can play the original game as much as you want. F2P=you get the original game for free and can play the original game as much as you want.
If they then decide to add a 1000000€ expansion with a 1000000€ subscription per month for playing in that expansion, it is still a B2P or F2P game based upon the original game, and the original game only. Whatever they then decide to add is irrelevant for the MMO model classification, as long as it doesn’t affect the original game.

Do you honestly think NCsoft would write about themselves in third person?
Btw have a look at that url you posted. Kdbdw doesn’t have a quaggan to do with NCsoft, they are just analytics who have tried to be like “omg we were so right about this expansion date” for the past years now. Every year they’re sooooo sure it will arrive, yet they end up being wrong over and over again, until when we finally have one, and they manage to fool you into thinking their annual predictions were accurate.
Source criticism, you’re welcome.

I also think that while NCSoft may want to release an expansion, it really comes down to what Anet wants to do. NCSoft may be the parent company of Anet, and Anet is basically just contractors for NCSoft, I am sure that it is part of Anets contract that Anet has a large say as to how the game is developed and run. IIRC early in 2013 NCSoft stated an expansion was in the works, and on the way, but Anet came forward and said “No there isn’t. Sorry for the confusion.”
If this is the case, then NCSofts predictions for an increase in revenue from more sales may be based on their desire for a traditional expansion, but those same predictions may not even be based on what Anet is actually doing, and the upcoming announcment.

And as I pointed out in another thread. KDB has announced this in 2012, 2013 and 2014. And one of these times they will be right.

This is how announcements work. You don’t know a thing, then someone tells you, and then you do know.
Even though the forum seems to have already decided it’s an expansion all we’ve actually been told so far is something is coming, it involves Mordremoth and it’s called Heart of Thorns.
I just can not understand the forum logic today.
What I do not understand is the lack of logic with this forum.
Whatever the big surprise is, it should be shared with us if it is a free update, P2P or a one time purchase.
Actually if it’s Apple I could see that working. I know a worrying number of people who seem to think the only important part of their announcements is “there’s a new thing to buy, it has an Apple logo”.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”

True, but thats a special case. Apple fan boys will buy anything and everything just because its Apple. However, use [instert company here], and my example still holds true.
