Ya, i got a problem with dye's
5 laurels are worth about 4.5 gold. Most of the dyes are priced under 3 silver. Buy the heavy crafting badges with laurels. Open them up, sell the mats. Buy a bunch of dyes with that gold.
ANet may give it to you.
maybe you should unlock the fine dyes, they range from ~2 silver to 20 silver and are avaialble on the TP….
I can understand why you have problems with the rest, I’ve been playing from headstart and I have 11 dyes missing. form all… those 11 dyes will set me back ~220 gold. I have the truly expensive ones. all of them, and most can be replaced by cheaper dyes. shadow abyss is nice, but midnight ice will do the job just fine…. (is most expensive example. 222 gold and 29 gold…) if you do not mind a bit greyer you could use iron 10s or the ebony stater dye some of the other midnight dyes might be intersting if looking for a truly dark color.
On the other side, celestial 78 gold might be very nice, but check out blue ice 8 silver…
Many dyes have comparable counterparts for anly a small part of the cost. Only black is truly expensive. white is a bit less costly…
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

Also, you can get 55 laurels every 28 login days. If you buy the heavy crafting bags, that’s almost 50 gold/28 days to put towards buying dyes.

Alright, thats okay! I’m not concerned since these are things that can be acquired in-game!
Bzzzt. (mostly) Wrong.
To educate the newer crowd, we used to get these dye all the time, i remember getting about 10 my first week of playing, maybe even more than that. I came back, did an entire play through from level 1-80 and got TWO uni dyes.
Unidentified dye drops were reduced to account for the change in demand after dye unlocks became account wide. It has nothing to do with dye packs in the gem store.
I miss getting a surprise dye from harvesting plants
Also keep in mind, all but the exclusive dyes can be crafted from chef, similar to the unidentified means, but also with the opportunity of picking from a specific spectrum.

me too
Gw2 does suffer from the problem that many of the things you want to get, you can really only get through gold. If you want to get a nice skin what do you do? Do you go on an adventure to find all the things you need to make it and then put it together. Most likely no, you will just farm gold and buy it. Same thing with dyes. Should you go out and play the game collecting your dye drops and hoping to get the one you want. No instead you’re told to just get gold and buy the dye you want.
Its not entirely a bad system but at times it can really ruin the fun of a game where you’re supposed to be having adventures and exploring and progressing your character.
When they eliminated the UniDye drops with the account wide unlocks, they boosted the viability of crafting dyes. Why craft if UniDyes drop from every other carrot harvest?
RIP City of Heroes

This is cute, and reminds me of my DnD session last week.
DM: Ok, the boss is dead. You find his longsword which you can tell is magical. And (bunch of random gems and stuff to just sell).
Me: So no greataxe?
DM: No greataxe.
Me: Why did I even choose this weapon and specialize in it?!
Oh but hey, the sword was worth a lot of money and I was able to BUY a new greataxe! Woohoo! Thanks gold system! Works even out of GW2!

wait…cute in a good way or a bad way
but yeah on one hand i dislike the gold system and then on the other hand i love it. So hard to figure out

Because in the end, the gold system works. Maybe someone at Anet had this happen to him too many times in their own DnD campaign but was thankful that the time and money spent to prepare and fight their way through a dungeon wasnt wasted on an item that no one could use, and would’ve just been left there if it couldn’t be sold, thus making the whole campaign worthless except just for xp.
As for the OP, if gold and money have you that worried, people have already said how laurels help already getting the gold to buy the dye you need (i honestly dont know why you want to play with RNG). If anything, go to the wardrobe, design your look, write down what armor pieces you need and what dyes you may need to buy (if too expensive, look for one that can be very similar), and there is your goal. Need trans charges? Create a level 1 and do a city map completion to get free ones.

Probably best not to try and figure it out. Just let it wash over you, or be like a leaf on the wind, and let it do its thing while you do yours.
For some reason I feel the need to watch Serenity…
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
Ok, i don’t ever remember paying that much for a crayon but to put that in perspective its the price of a cheeseburger for something that’s most likely going to be worth 5-25 cents.
Big fast food companies also dont pay more than 5-25 cent for the cheeseburger they sell to you for 1.15$-
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.

Makes sense, But i think they could make the system a bit better. Altho the new legendary system seems to make a really nice compromise
Also you didnt answer my question i think ill just take it as Im cute in a good way

Well its a dam good movie :p
since dyes don’t drop-dye prices have skyrocketed. and it isn’t just shadow abyss (219 gp) or glint’s isolation (396gp ^^;…) it’s all of them. what used to be mid range/cost dyes are now 100 gp.
the other thing about dyes not dropping(in addition to things like black lion keys) is that the loot table is really small. i tend to get the same rares over and over…i have enough conjurer coats/boots/gloves/masks to clothe the harry potter school. throw some dyes on that loot table just to keep things interesting.
Thank goodness I bought all my dyes when they were relatively cheap. For some reason now they’ve skyrocketed… especially that ridiculous Glint one that looks a bit pale yellow.. last time I checked it was 300g+. Far out.
I, too, miss getting dyes from harvesting plants and killing mobs. I used to love to run around the world maps and kill mobs because there was always a chance I could get a dye to open and add to my collection. It was lots of fun.
I feel bad for new players that will never have that kind of fun.
