it is possible, and buying one from bitterfrost with berries is the cheapest and likely fastest option. I have the Veil on my reaper with viper stats.

ANet said that they’ll add the ability to convert existing ascended breathers, same as we do for the rest of armor. No estimated time, but it might be soon (they seemed to be close last time I read an update.)
(Me, I keep hoping that they’ll eliminate the underwater breathers entirely, since they aren’t necessary to, you know, breathe underwater. I don’t like needing to find a 7th rune, especially since many runes don’t help underwater. I’d prefer that we just have a skin that uses the helm stats. And of course, there’d be some sort of refund/exchange option.)
