First off, i must ask. Why are we being punished for wanting a specific character appearance. Anet seems to be treating it like it’s a privilege.

This new charge system makes it harder to transmute stuff! If I remember correctly, Anet said in the wardrobe article that the previous system was “Destructive” and had high “Gating” for new players making it hard to access.

I do a city map completion, what do I get? 1 CHARGE. And charges are still only obtainable from map completion, gem store, and occasionally a daily reward.

Also as someone else pointed out in another thread. This system now makes you choose between using a charge for a skin, or keeping said skin to use for free by taking up inventory space.

This system makes it the same or even MORE difficult for new players to transmute anything.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the wardrobe system. It makes the skin system a lot less stressful by not having to pile on skins to keep later and makes creating a look a lot less expensive. But once those initial charges wear out, I will have to struggle just to change an entire armor’s look.

We need either charges to be more numerous from rewards or make charges obtainable from somewhere else. It’s pretty much fork over the money for gems, or grind a city map completion 6 times to make armor.

What you’re forgetting is that on map completion, what you got was Transmutation Stones. Not Crystals. The difference being that Stones could not transmute to L80 items, meaning that you either had to be very lucky with Daily Rewards, pretty lucky with Black Lion Chests, or just buy them off the Gem Store.

So yes, while a low level player had it a bit easier before, they would eventually become an L80 player and find it a lot more difficult to swap their skins on a whim. Now, at least, there’s more choice there.

I don’t quite get it.

Say in the past, I want 6 arah armor pieces, I either
- farm them or
- I transmute existing piece I possess using crystals (which can only be bought or acquired from rewards)

So now if I want 6 arah armor pieces I can
- farm them like I used to
- transmute them with 6 charges (which can be bought or acquired from rewards), except this time I don’t need unused arah armor piece lying around. I just need the unlocks in the wardrobe

What has changed?

EDIT: oh yes, <lvl 80 transmutation is now more expensive.
But even a playing casually, you won’t stay <80 for more than a month. Most people reach 80 within a week and hardcore ones in days.

What has changed is that anet has screwed over both low and high level players alike.

As stated previously, yes you got stones from just simple map completion. But that was 3 of them. Now for any low level to want to level up to 80 in a specified appearance they either have to buy gems, or complete a map 6 times. It used to be 2 times for 6 stones. 2 is not 6…Yes this makes lvl 1s on the same place as a lvl 80. But now, everyone has to work harder.

To sum it up: Transmuting anything below level 80 is a waste of time and resources now. People shouldn’t be punished for wanting a set appearance.

EDIT: Not everyone is lvl 80 in a week >_> Or even a month for that matter…

You don’t need as much transmutation stones at level 80. You’re not cycling through equipment every few levels like you are on the way to 80.

There were a lot of ways the old transmutation system could be improved, and the new system has made it better in many ways, but one of the problems with the old system was that it was hard to keep up with the need for transmuting while leveling if you wanted to keep a particular appearance, and the new system didn’t help that any, it’s actually made that problem much worse.

I have always considered it a waste of time transmuting skins before you are level 80, for the same reason it’s not worthwhile investing in the best-in-slot stats on an underlevel. Pretty soon you’d be a higher level and you’d need to buy better gear and re-transmute. It was a waste then and even more of one now, but I still have no problem with it.

Yup. <80 transmutation is more expensive.

I will just stick to costume tonics until I am 80 to get over the assorted junk look.

To be honest, I like the that 3 stones can be converted into 1 charge.

I believe most of us, if given a choice again, will choose to save those stones we used to transmute <80 armor that lasted 5 to10 levels and have them converted to charges today.

I really don’t think anyone would use stones now if they even could, knowing it can be converted into charges.

I already got 140 charges and I haven’t spent neither gold
nor real money for them.
I doubt I will ever get to use all these,or that the rate of usage
will exceed the rate of acquire.
As for pre lvl 80 transmutes, why bother?
It takes less than a month to casually level a toon to 80,and
with instant lvl 20s and tomes it can be less than a minute.
Why spend resources on gear that you will use only for a few days?

-Win a pip,lose a pip,win a pip,lose a pip,lose a pip,
lose a pip,win 2 pips,lose a pip,lose a pip…………..-
-Go go Espartz.-

Maybe because not everyone piled up transmute stones/crystals.
Maybe because not everyone likes to rush to lvl 80 asap.
Maybe because some people like to have a bunch of alts to switch to and like to have specific appearances on them.

And maybe you are in the minority, meaning ANet helped the majority. Like it should.

Dude, if you intend to stay <80 forever, feel free to use a charge. It is not a waste as long as the charge serves you long enough before you decide to change.

Anyone wanna get their 250 stones back instead of 83 charges can petition here.

I’d really love to see who else.

Alright, I’m done. I guess I’m the only one seeing this new system as a disguised cash grab.

I’ll just go back to wearing trash looking armor until from lvl 1-79.

Its actually better for lowbies now too. You can actually put a level 80 skin on a brand new character if you want too. Previously you could only get the lowbie skins, 90% of which sucked.

For <80, farming stones is made less convenient (but not impossible). And for 80, it makes it possible, where before it was basically gemstore or nothing.
Since there is more 80 than <80 (mechanically, everyone ends up 80), ANet effectively lowered their gem revenue.
So yes, you are the only one seing it as a cashgrab. Because it isn’t.

No one is disputing that fact that it is a way for Anet to earn more money. I don’t even think it is disguised, anyone with half a brain can tell.

It IS beneficial for us too.
Why do players have to jump at every move Anet makes to make more money?

“Anet only cares about money.”
“Gem sales is all they want.”

Guys, just because you have nothing to do but playing games at home doesn’t mean these people has got nothing to do but make games for you.

NCSoft is not a name of a guy with no life hiding in a basement making games. It is kitteng NCSoft Corporation.
It has an office.
It has a board.
It has employees.

Yes just like the one your dad or mom goes to work for every morning to pay for your school fees and useless game stuff.

I sense some passive-aggressive belittling here.

Anyways, yes I understand that NCSoft/Anet is not “just some guy”. It is a living breathing corporation that makes person to person decisions on how to survive while bringing the best services to it’s customers to make them happy.

But sometimes dumb decisions get through. This new system negatively affects altoholics, new players, casuals, and players who generally want to look “cool” at all times. I doubt all of that is a “minority”.
