Yet Again Anet Post on Reddit, not here

Already discussing. Flesh is keeping the main forums posted.
I think it’s actually quite bad practice to be posting on Reddit rather than here.
(Actually much of my content is gated behind gated failed “adventures” !)
I don’t know the statistics, but there’s a pretty good chance that Reddit has more users than the official forums do.

That’s not the point. If they’re going by number of users then they might as well scrap the official forums for anything other than bug reports and let us go elsewhere to debate things. What makes me laugh is that Guru and QQ were the main forums in absence of official ones in GW1 so I thought that the reason they went for official forums this time was so there was better communication between players and staff. Oh how wrong I seemed to be… It really is concerning that the staff prioritise media other than their official forums to announce things. If they posted here first and then on Reddit (or even copypasting the Reddit response to here immediately after there), then I don’t think anyone would really care. Having to use another website that many people don’t wish to use in order to access important information and news, nah, not cool. And as kind as it is of Flesh to collect what we miss, they shouldn’t have to and that’s kinda the whole point.
dragons, I sometimes wonder if we’ll ever find a way to save us from ourselves.”
Reading between the lines it sounds like staff posting on the official forums have to have their post vetted/approved/whatever even if they are posting in their own free time. Maybe it’s because of over-cautious management, or maybe something got posted in the past that was “off message”. If that is true then it is hardly surprising that they choose to post elsewhere. /shrug
“we never want things gated behind failed events”
Yet things are gated behind failed events. How do things like this then get into the game I wonder? Don’t they check it or something?
Reddit is amazing. We should all embrace reddit. It is a place of scholarly discussion where we can discuss things openly and freely in a caring environment with other community members. One should never stand in the way of the reddit. One should never question the reddit. Love your reddit and you shall be loved in return.
If you speak out against the reddit you break the forums rules. And I will flag you like a good citizen of the reddit. I was once a sinner too, but I was flagged and embraced by the moderators who do the will of the reddit. The moderators have shown me the light, and I shall preach the reddit for all to see.

When SAB 2 came out it was a lot harder and had a fair few bugs. The main designer of SAB, Josh Foreman, took to the forums to personally adress the outrage. He was very forthright, and many players loved him for it. According to his personal blog, Anet did not.

Think I’d rather them post over on Reddit actually. Official forums suck most of the time. I can actually talk to a dev without having a dozen idiots interrupt screaming about their needs and demanding answers.
I was kind of annoyed at first about this, but now I spend more time on the Reddit Guild Wars 2 subreddit, it’s much more pleasant there. Many posters here are not fun to read or talk to.
Well that’s what happens when customers get ignored on “official forums”, they get kittened off. It could have been fixed and avoided if Anet made an effort, you know especially after Mike’s thread last year about more communication.
But it is what it is, if they want to hurt their relations that way, that’s on them.
We just have to deal with it and flood on over to reddit instead.

I also prefer the Reddit forums. They are far more informative and much less prone to being inundated by whiny, self-entitled prats.

I think it all comes down to consequences. There is no down side to acting like a moron here. People can act as entitled and bratty as they want and nothing happens. On Reddit if you try that crap your post might get down voted into oblivion. Get enough down votes and your post gets hidden away. Such a simple system but it really does a good job of keeping people from going off the rails.
Official forums seem to attract too many people who think everything they write is internet gold. Anet had better scramble to respond to every stupid question they ask etc. It’s obnoxious. I like reading here for some quick opinions on builds and things but for the most part I have to ignore a dozen threads before finding a decent one.

It also does a great job of silencing unpopular opinions. Thanks, but no thanks.
I’d rather have people speaking their minds when I want to hear opinions about my product, even if that means having to sift through endless trash. In this day and age, with the constant bombardment of information, we should be used to doing that anyway.
I admit to being of two minds when it comes to Reddit’s downvote system. On one hand, it does help to filter out a large chunk of the petulant crap, but on the other.. it does indeed have the effect of silencing dissent.
sigh I don’t have a problem with people criticising a product. Hell, it’s not as though I don’t have my own periodic gripes with the game. However, it is possible to express your concerns in a civil and constructive manner. You don’t need to act like this:

It isn’t a perfect system. Usually though if you have been down voted enough to get your post hidden you are likely just off base somehow or presenting your opinion in some aggressive/childish way. You can get down votes and still have your post shown. If you are sitting at -62 votes though then you are clearly trying to preach to the wrong audience. In that case you SHOULD be silenced because the only thing running your mouth will accomplish is derailing conversation.
Voicing your opinion is great. Feeling you have the right to keep ramming it down peoples throats when you are clearly in the wrong neighborhood though is counter productive, bordering on trolling. Moving on is something people have a hard time doing on the internet. Which is why official forums can be so toxic.
they should add a downvote system to the regular forums. they can deduct AP from downvotes. that way everyone will stop posting here and start posting on reddit like they want them to anyways. i asked for a month whether or not we’d be able to do toypocalypse with a group. i got my answer in game today.
the communication issue is real.
