I believe it is just bad wording just like most of the ‘unlocks’ you get while leveling even though you can already do/use them.

As has been posted by Devs several times, the tool-tips explaining some of the in-game functions only denote information, not a level lock-out. I don’t expressly know if this particular instance is the case, but it certainly could be just like Dodging, or entering PvP, or using the Bank, etc., etc.

sigh… you are lvl 39 and you didn’t bother to equip a rare when you were lvl 35 but, for some reason the sole idea of rares being locked at lvl 39 (which isn’t the case) bother you so much that you have the need to rage on the forum?

If people could stop posting complains before know how things works, this forum may become a nice place -_-

First, i did have rares equiped but since i equiped them before the patch i don’t know if it changed that’s why i asked, you know that “is this really the case ?” part of the post, guess you don’t know how to read.

Second i said it was kinda ridiculous (if it is the case) because there are lvl 35 rares.

Third where am i raging ? was that because of the “why the hell” ? do you call that raging ?

and last about that last part of your comment, why don’t you get off your high horse and keep your holier than thou attitude to yourself.

There are a lot of things which are explained in the level up pop-ups which aren’t locked, they’re just mentioned to make sure you’re aware of them if you haven’t already found out.

For example I created a new character this morning and one of the first things I did was use the golem banker to withdraw 2 bags from my bank and equipped them. Then I got a notification at level 3 about bags and how to equip them. I haven’t gotten one about the bank yet but I know it does happen.

It’s the same with things like asura gates, WvW, dodging and vistas and POIs. You can use them right from the start, just like you always could, but genuinely new players might not know about them until they’re told.

Some of the levels where things are introduced do seem a bit odd. In this case level 35 would be a more sensible point to introduce rare equipment since that’s the first level you can equip it. But I assume the actual unlocks took priority and extra tips were inserted wherever there was a gap.

Rares at that level are actually very low effect and non-integral part (and in vast majority of cases unobtainable)

They assumed “vets” already knew about rares. Seems they assumed too much

However, it is you who are assuming. No one on this thread is amazed that there are rares before level 39, they were just wondering if the lv39 was an unlock or just an information message. If you absolutely have to be condescending to people, at least try to do it in a relevant way.

If that was not just a copy paste of some “irrelevant troll comments” list you have opened up next to you GW2 forums window, I interpret this as if you seem to believe these players did not know they could use rares before level 39 before the patch. However, this person knows he could use them before the update (he had them equipped, see a later post of his). He just didn’t know if he still could after the new update. This has nothing to do with being veteran, since Arenanet changed a lot of things to be locked behind level gates that were not before (or are now locked till a higher level) and yet failed to give a comprehensive list of what should be locked till what level.

Really curious as to what kind of odd reply this post is going to get now.

Thats becasue nothing of this sort is locked. Heureka. Only skills got moved ot higher level due to different leveling curve.

And thats VERY easy to find out. Im amazed all these “vets” and “pros” couldnt figure that one out without dev handholding (well even with dev hand holding we STILL get threads like these).

Its funny because all of this was in blog posts released BEFORE it went live.

You still think these “vets” and “pros” dont need hand holding? Becasue with every thread and every post like this they actually prove ANet right.

Item levels don’t necessarily match up with when they can be used any more. I’m trying out a new character and I’ve gotten two torches as drops – one with no level requirement and one for level 6. But you don’t unlock off-hand weapons until level 7 so I can’t actually use either of them until that point.

But I’m fairly certain that’s not the case with equipping new tiers of equipment, if you can find rare armor at or below your level you can equip it. The level up thing just tells you it exists.

Thanks, now you are making more sense.

Very easy to find out? Do you mean he has to level another character to level 35 just to test this out rather than ask someone (and where better than on the forums)?

All of it was in the blog post? The blog post did not mention everything that ended up being locked, like skill point challenges and diving goggles, so it is not a stretch to wonder if they locked rare armor as well when you get such a information popup. For your information, this is the paragraph concerning unlocks:

Some systems have been layered further along the leveling progression and will become fully unlocked when you reach those levels to help give players more time to learn the core game systems. For example, rallying from the downed state can be overwhelming to a brand-new Guild Wars 2 player. We’ve moved the downed state to unlock at level five so players have time to learn the basics of combat before they experience this system. We also made the downed state give you additional health early on to help make it easier to learn. As we layered in systems and new rewards across the levels, some other features like weapon swapping and skill slot unlocks have been moved a bit to fill in better with the progression of mechanics we’ve established.

They did not state the added or changed unlock levels for: weapon skills, underwater combat, skill points, diving goggles, class specific F1-4 skills. Just a generic other features like. This is also pretty clearly not only skills as you mention, making your bias ever more clear.

The dev “handholding” we are seeing is caused by a bugged patch and the lack of a list of what was supposed to be locked as I mentioned before. Therefore, I dare say the confusion most of the people you are trying to ridicule have is not due to lack of “vetness” but because lack of information from arenanet, and misinformation from others.

Conclusion to all this? There is still nothing about this thread that indicates “vets” need this kind of handholding.

That’s not to say the NPE patch should be completely reversed though, it has merits and I am waiting to see what the end result will be after it gets fixed. However, I do not know where your adversity to everyone who has questions about this NPE patch comes from. Sure, some people are overreacting, but this thread is not the first one I’ve seen you attacking people that just wanted to know more than what was officially made known, or had legitimate concerns. It seems you are just firing bullets in every direction without bothering to look who you are aiming at. Just maybe you should reconsider this aggressive stance?

Isn’t the point here that if the game is trying to be HELPFUL with these hints, that it should point this out as soon as it is available and not later?

Why can’t it be something like at 35 “You can wear rare armor now! Check out the Trading Post!”, and then at 39 “You can use rare weapons now!” (or however it works). If a new player is seriously relying on those in-game helps, then there are 4 levels there that they missed out on rare equipment. Not game-breaking of course, but it seems it could be better implemented.

Rares can be gained for level 1. They are soulbound, and cannot be sold on the TP. So those you purchased the heroic edition should be able to recieve and wear the heroic armor from the very beginning.

Yeah, but those are unobtainable to those who dont have heroic version so if you dont have it you cant test it out yourself in any way (premise is that “vets” and “pros” know their stuff they researched and tested it out themselves because they claim they are so pro at the game)

Truth is – most of them could actually benefit from those tooltips and tutorials.

Assuming you really consider this to be handholding, I’d like to present you the case that this “hand holding” is a byproduct requirement by changes ANet made to the game. In essence if the tutorials and content weren’t changed, no one would need help to understand that.

What all the people saying its clearly people not knowing whats going on, the real question is why is the tool tip telling you something that implies that you could not before? Wouldnt have made more sense for that pop up to trigger at the level when rare gear is first a possible drop?

Regarding the part I bolded:

I’m pretty sure the “Information” area of the level up reward screen that included the Personal Vault (bank) feature was around level 28-29. Seems like that bit of information, that you have a personal storage area, should be given much earlier on than level 28-29.

Perhaps level 5-10 would be a more appropriate area for such a notification as the player’s bags may be getting full by this point and it’d be nice to point out storage as an alternative to vending.

I’m sure most people have visited their racial city by level 10-15 to start their personal story, or any of the many other reasons to go there, and became aware of the bank icon on their map and chose to see what it was.

I’m not sure why they decided to make the informative notification at such a high level. Seems illogical to me and less than ideal for a new player. By that point, if a player was still unaware of the bank and has been destroying or vending everything for all of those levels, the player might respond with, “Oh, now they tell me. Could’ve told me sooner since I’ve been throwing all this stuff out for 20 levels that I didn’t have room to hang on to. Sold/destroyed some stuff I wanted to hang on to because I had no space left for loot from kills! Wish I had known there was a storage area when I was like level 5 when bag space first became an issue.”

Though, that’s just my take on it..
