You're doing it wrong!
well i’m loving the game. can’t say there don’t anything wrong
Guild wars 2 a mediocre stereotypical mmorpg? What the hell are you talking about?
I’ve been playing tons of different mmrogps for the past 8 years of my life (wow, tera, gw1 warhammer online, aion just to name a few), some of them pay2play and some of them free2play. There must be at least a hundred mmrogps that I’ve tried and let me tell you one thing, Guild wars 2 might not be THE best mmorpg out there but without a freaking doubt it is the most original and revolutionary mmorpg out there. Please tell me what is original and revolutionary about GW2….im not being smart, im genuinely interested in what you see in GW2 that you think hasnt been done before.
Dynamic Event system, far superior (and different) to anything Rift or Warhammer Online ever did.
Active Combat, ok there have been RPGs with more emphasis in combat, but never a real blend between types like in Guild Wars 2
No trinity, no “roles” in combat. OK maybe there are some roles but not as strictly defined as in other games, nor the same. In this feature I must add the “no threat”, there is no threat management/generation skills/abilities (Thank goodness)
Weapon system/Skill system, it is funny how it is now being copied by the MMORPGs of the future. Limited Skillbars, Weapon-specific skills.
The World and Exploration. Vistas/POIs/Skill challenges, it’s the only MMORPG that is actually rewarding true exploration.
Just to name a few features
LOTRO has open world events, so does DDO in its “wilderness” areas.
DDO has a very similar combat system, only replacing dodge with block.
No “trinity” was clever PR spin, nothing more….in GW2 everyone is now DPS.
The weapon skill bar is something i hear discussed a lot…it is extremely limiting and gets old very quickly, you can have it maxed out all available skills open at level 10.
True exploration ? try LOTRO, it kicks GW2’s butt is that respect, and truly rewards exploration…if exploring is your “thing”, i would suggest you try LOTRO, no other game even comes close.
GW2 is a fun game no doubt, but nothing here is “new”…it is a new (and not always good) spin on current game mechanics.
Some are even archaic game mechanics that most MMO’s have already given up….take GW2 bosses for example, just the same old lame million hit point piñatas that even older games are moving away from.

You put it quite nicely “spin on current game mechanics.”, I’ve always thought of it as a renovation but that works quite well too.
World Boss Battles are so brainless its laughable. Why doesn’t the boss actually get godly hard when there are over 200 people attacking it? Now that would be so great
What bothers me is how Anet said they were going to the North Pole from 09 to 12 then suddently at release tell us we’re going to Italy.
GW2 is okay even if GW1 can beat the 2 in some areas.
For me GW2 ONLY Fails because:
- Hugeness of Grind at endgame, where the objectives for PVE are resumed to grind to gear.
If GW2 was a true revolution, there would be new ways to add endgame content without we need to do repetitive content over and over for get what we want, what is called GRIND.
Asura thing.
Is someone really comparing a P2W game like what Lotro has become to Guild Wars 2…really? Yes I love having a game where each part of the game has to be purchased seperately and I can’t play with my friends because I don’t have the same areas they do. Or standing there killing one type of creature over and over to get a specific trait I want. This is great stuff.
Lotro is probably my second favorite MMO, but Turbine has destroyed it completely. You couldn’t pay me to get me back to that game. In fact, if it weren’t Lord of the Rings, that game would have been out of business ages ago. It’s not because people love the lore. Same with DDO, another Turbine disaster. That company is so greedy it makes me sick.
I don’t see how anyone can compare these two games.
What would improve this game infinitely is to remove level scaling from the game. Its a system that destroys a game by making it so called “fair”. Level scaling takes away your sense of power from your character and takes away the satisfaction of working your a— off to become more powerful. If a game has level scaling then gaining levels becomes irrelevant.
Level scaling is one of the best features in the game, keeping content as relevant as possible no matter your level is important to give players a variety of activities to do. Also, last I checked, your rewards scale as well so I don’t see an issue here, if anything, every single MMORPG that is to be released in the future should have level scaling.
Sorry to say that you’re wrong Madd, but, you’re wrong. Level scaling ruins a game. Period. I have stated my reasons multiple times before and those reasons stand on their own merits and I won’t restate them here.

It would have been irrelevant had they made a more reasonable level cap – say 20 or 30. Then, instead of taking up all that programming time adjusting, tweaking, and such, they could have spent more time focusing on making the world deeper, richer, more interesting, and less buggy. Why on Earth do we actually need 80 levels? It’s just so…passé. Why waste so many programming resources on this?
Leveling is such a pointless exercise. I’d rather just play. But we just had to have 80 levels…I still don’t see the point to that, but I’m seeing what can go wrong because of it.
I figured this out months ago after getting my 5th 80 and finishing gearing them out, got done with my legendary, and got to fractal level 50, that Gw2 endgame, is playing another game, and my whole guild feels that way, the “endgame” we have is just stale recycled mechanics we are used to (guild bounty’s etc are just glorified dynamic events), and no real elite area to keep the higher up players interested, not to mention the 5 party size limit on everything in the game makes it hard to play with a group of friends over 5 people, (someone always has to sit one out while wishing we had a 10 man or 8 man instance). in short I love gw2, but, something needs to be pulled out of the “expansion” bin they have of held back content to keep more hardcore players playing.

you talk as if guild bounty is the only thing to work for or do with guilds
from what i Understand Guild challenge is a much harder fight

Its still just a dynamic event.
I find it sadly amusing that the OP was infracted for an honest depiction of a lot of the problems in the game. GW2 is broken on a very basic, fundemental level. It is boring to play for any length of time. I haven’t even logged into the game in a couple months because adding extra content onto a broken system is still boring. The fight mechanics and extremely limited weapon skill sets are just tedious. I’ve gone back and played more GW1 in the last couple months than I have bothered to play GW2, even though I already have GWAMM and 50/50 in HoM. I wish I knew how to define what made GW1 such a fun and replayable game so I can point to it and say “Do this! This is what fun looks like!” but it’s something ephemeral and intangible, which GW2 is completely lacking. The only reason I haven’t uninstalled the game completely is I keep hoping they will make improvements down the line, a la expansions or makeover some of the game mechanics. Like in GW1 and the addition of heroes where you could customize the skills of the NPCs in your party, the game was awesome before that, but it opened up so many areas to a solo player who didn’t like being forced to play a certain class with a specific build in order to visit some of the high-end areas. It’s pretty heart-breaking to read that they have officially announced there won’t be any expansions to the game. I miss the magic that was GW1
