I’m NOT one of those people on the raid wagon because i don’t necessarily have the time for it anymore, but this thought came to me when I was looking at all my old EQ screenshots. See TLDR; at end if you have a severe case of ADHD…

Inspiration: EQ-> Plane of Hate, Plane of Fear, Plane of Sky, Sebelis, Kael Drakkel FFXI-> Dynamis

The groundwork to do this is already in place so implementing this system wouldn’t be all that difficult.

I propose Specific Zones or Dungeons set aside exclusively for groups of 10 players or more. They can be either Open World like EQ, or instanced off like a dungeon.

The encounters would scale based on the number of people, just like meta events and dynamic events, and the fight mechanics would be similar to the Jormag fight, with phases and all.

Rewards would NOT be better gear, but more vanity sets, this preserves Anet’s mission and makes it so that doing these “raids” are not for gear progression, just for guild activities and fun.

TLDR: Open World or instanced Dungeons/Zones meant for 10 players+ with a bunch of Dynamic Events/Meta events similar in mechanics to Jormag, and only vanity gear for loot.

Sounds much better than the current mess. which is exactly what I am suggesting, you can do raids and good mechanic PvE end-games without raising the item-level unlike what these fanboy defenders suggest.

I personally like the smaller groups. Once you start upping the player count (see every dynamic event) it just turns into spamming chaos with a dodge roll thrown in every now and then. You lose the feeling that you are contributing anything to the fight.

I would be a little upset if they introduced large party dungeons that had some really awesome looking skins since I wouldn’t watch to play in such a way that belittled me as a player. Of course I’d get over it, but given ANet’s past statements it seems that is also their feeling (they created the world for the player).

Something that could work to make both you and me happy (using us as player stereotypes) is to do it in the style of the Elite Luxon mission or the Kunavaang mission in Factions where you are 12/8 players but split into 3/2 groups completing different parts of the same mission, and then you all join up at the end. That way you’ve got the part when you can feel important to the mission (when you’re split into your group of 4) and the guys who want to have a massive clusterkitten of chaos can have that too.

There will always be an extremely vocal group of players to complain about the lack of gear progression and raiding.

This will do nothing to quiet them, because to them it doesn’t count as content if there aren’t gear upgrades. That’s why all the people telling them about things to do now aren’t quieting them.

No matter how much there actually is to do, without gear upgrades that type of player just doesn’t understand the point in playing.

Sadly I fear you are correct in this matter

I wanted a Guild Wars 1 successor that kept the spirit of the game alive.

Maybe that’s true, but there will also be a large number of players who love and play the kitten out of raid style content and could genuinely care less about a couple of pixels. I loved raiding in WoW. It was challenging, awesome, and built memories for me and my guild (see; friends). Couldn’t care less about the gear.

It’s about the fight, the thrill, and the experience. Guild Wars 2 is an amazing and ground breaking game – if Anet manages to add something like raiding into it that manages to hit my tickle spot, I think I could call it perfect. And stay here for a very, very long time.
