Your Class's Peak
I had a lot of fun with Ranger back in the day when traps were throwable, Trapper runes hadn’t been nerfed yet and Swiftness/Superspeed effected leap disatances.
At the time I was on SFR EU and I had great fun making entire zergs chase me around the map, unable to catch me because I was like Sonic. I think one of the best memories I have was running around SMC lords room with at least 30 people chasing me for a good 20 minutes. Sword/Dagger + Superspeed and I could leap some ridiculous distances. Good times, 100% broken and nerfs well deserved.
I also miss when Spectral Walk could negate fall damage. There’s a spot in EOTM between Tytone Perch and Inferno’s Needle generator where you can drop waaay down to a bridge. I had at least 20 or so people run me off a cliff around there, all falling to their deaths while I survived and /cheer’d.
I’m not sure that either of those things are my classes peaks but they were definitely the times I felt the most broken (in the good way, or bad depending on how you look at it, lol).

Oh man! i almost forgot that somehow, i remember how that just SHREDDED pve content.
For the thief… launch. Easy.
Quickness still at 100% cast speed and not a boon, PW dealing another 20% damage, with no precast animation, no Revealed debuff, no ICD on stealth attacks, CnD dealing 20% more damage, Mug critting, Assassin’s Signet applying a 50% damage modifier, Critical Strikes trait line actually being useful, permanent 14 might and stealth from SA alone, infinite stealth on D/P alone, multiple trait lines with crazy strong adept traits, Basilisk Venom couldn’t be stunbroken and ignored stability, permanent blind/multi-pulses on Black Powder, Dagger Storm dealing way more damage, Dancing Dagger’s damage up by ~75% with an extra bounce, shortbow range at 1200, shortbow AA having more damage, shortbow AA ignoring stealth and teleports on bounces, HiS cleansed all the DoT conditions, Infiltrator’s Strike costed less initiative and didn’t have a second part – just an instant evade, and most significantly, no silly powercreep yet in the core game.
I probably missed a few more big ones since then, but those were just the major ones that came to mind.

This, somedays I wish to bring this back to show people they have it good against thieves compared to Thief at Launch.
I almost forgot the days where I could send my pets up walls in WvW to kill people on siege! Those were the days…

Ele during the beta. Staff damage was at least 60% higher than it is now, and there was no 5 man cap.
You could actually kill things at range, without having to circle strafe or kite.
Now, we’re glass cannons, and it’s painful.

I did not wvw right away at launch…but this was a thing? dang pets had spiderman DNA huh?
While recovering from the patch nerfs i been looking back and thinking of the old overpowered days..“what was my class’s peak? before all the nerfs” This is just a for fun thread where you say what your class is and what caused your class to “peak” I will start; necros and jagged horrors before the 30 second lifespan nerf, all those bleeds.
You mean that was our only peak. In PvE at least.
I guess the few weeks where our CPC destroyed every projectile no matter what were fun too.

If I can find the video, I’ll share it. There’s one of a Ranger using a Beastmaster build who keeps sending his stealthed Jaguar up walls to kill people. But yes it did used to be a thing for a brief time.

The Icebow Nerf hurt them more

Back when explosive had synapse overload I could 100-0 people after overcharged shot. With the old inventions and tools I could cast my turrets to take down seige behind walls and mortar 5 skill could scramble and deter zergs. Grenades had 1500 Range so I could camp kills from a vantage point.

While half of these could honestly be brought back as an “elite spec” and all the white-knights would say it’s great design and totally balanced, it definitely was overtuned.
That said, most of the rage probably came from the culling bug/problem where stealthed players after leaving stealth wouldn’t be visible until way afterwards.

Back in GW1 before enemies moved out of AoEs and my ele could just pile on the nukes. I mean they would just stand there and let you melt them, it was great.
Back in the way back.
I almost forgot the days where I could send my pets up walls in WvW to kill people on siege! Those were the days…
And 3000 range Sic’em, and a pet leash range that was higher than 3000. Until it was deemed a problem for sPvP and we got the infamous “Pet leash range increased to 2000” patch note.
Save the Bell Choir activity!
Remember the time engi first got elixir gun and we didnt have to slot nades for every build? Yeah, those were the minutes.
Im surprised theres no FGS meta recall yet. All hail the Elementalist overlords.
I play Ele since the headstart. I played without looking for better builds on the internet. If I had known about the FGS and Staff Fire #4 bug I would have totaly abused it… what a shame.
A couple of days after we got the new Build/Trait system before HoT, they had bugged the target caps for most Guardian skills. Including all shouts and Empower to name a few.
I could stand in the middle of a zerg and be invulnerable, casting a single hold your ground with 15 people around me would heal me 2/3 of life, Empower was so overkill healing I didn’t know what to do. I ran around a couple of days in EotM just having fun with feeling invulnerable. I couldn’t die until they reduced the zerg around me to less than 10.
“Understanding is a three edged sword: your side, their side, and the truth.”
“The objective is to win. The goal is to have fun.”
The old kit refinement on engi was amazing. I remeber people playing with that and the trait which helps with fall damage to drop 3x nade barrages (however it’s spelt)

This.
The days of the old D/D cleric ele in WvW, even before celestial, before RtL nerf, were epic. Get 20 people chasing you, pretend to be stuck on a rock, FGS#4+FGS#3… profit.
D/D ele had such a great gameplay in PvP and WvW
On PvE, the first time people saw what zerker ele with FGS could do to a dungeon boss against a wall was amazing. It changed dungeons forever.
Engi used to be such a fun class to play on WvW too.
P/S condi or the old Cele Riffle were great. When stacking boons actually required some actions instead of just passive traits, placing those well timed finishers on your fields. I used to love to get people knocked off cliffs with engi…
And the 100nades build was funny too.
Mesmer Glamour Bombs.
Mesmer Chaos Storm traits that did 70k damage.
Staff Ele Meteor Shower to Mist Form. Using Abilities in Mist Form.
Ranger before the buffs started with Longbow stealth. Then the class became “user friendly”.
Thief P/P Ricochet builds.
….. And Elementalist.

I definitely miss te throwable traps I still remember coming back to the game after a year break and noticing my ranger, which was my only lvl 80 at that time, couldn’t throw his traps. First I thought it was a bug, but then via chat I experienced the horrible thruth…what have you done to the game ANet?! You removed so much fun uo till a point only 1 build per class remained
Ranger using Ele hammers in WvW for all of 2(?) days back in ’14. I would purposely let the hammer trains of the day run into me and wreck their face. I then knew how falling damage Mesmers felt, even though I knew it was due to bug.

Ooh yeah, both of these.
Necro just after Heart of Thorns. I have close to a 75% win rate in PvP since then as a result. Don’t get me wrong, I still love necro even to this day, no amount of changes will be too much for me to change
Restore that which was lost. And all shall be as one.”
While I wouldn’t call it a class peak so much, when specialisations first came out (pre HoT), Necromancers could run Chilling Darkness (with no ICD) and Bitter Chill to make Well of Darkness actually good. Also at the same time, all wells triggered vampiric/vamp aura.
