It’s been almost a year since I compiled the List of 150+ QoL Features, and since I like lists so much, I decided to go for a (personal) list of fixes/changes/features which I consider long overdue.

Feel free to compile your own lists in the comments (or support parts of mine). Seeing that some bits of changes actually do make it into the game after years of forum posts, I still hope it can make a difference.

Major:

  • Targeting
    • separate “Target nearest enemy” (current behaviour – closest anywhere in the sphere around character) and “Target nearest enemy within the screen” (previous behaviour) functions
    • option to exclude yellow targets from auto targeting
    • displaying and casting targeted AoEs at max range when out of range
    • keybind for toggling autotargeting
    • option for highly visible cursor
  • Camera
    • will be partially addressed on March 10
    • toggle for right-click camera
    • “About Face” not working with right-click camera
    • right-click camera auto-disabling after certain skills
  • Build templates
    • for traits
    • and gear
    • (almost) confirmed not coming with HoT
  • PvE conditions
    • removing/increasing condition stacks cap
    • fixing weaker conditions overwriting stronger conditions
    • conditions affecting structures/direct-damage immune mobs
  • Megaservers
    • interface for switching Megaserver shards (without LFG)
    • queue for joining full worlds
    • reserving spot in the world for disconnected players
    • retaining event credit for disconnected players
  • Instance kicking
    • instance owners cannot be kicked; if the instance owner leaves, the status of instance owner is passed to the next person who entered the dungeon after the instance owner

    • auto-accept option for right-side chests
    • “Accept all” option for right-side chests/instant splashless accept (like right-click)
    • option to auto-consume luck

    • 2-handed weapons filling adjacent slots when switching weapons (i.e. not losing Focus in the middle of inventory when replacing Sword-Focus with Greatsword)

  • Smarter dye management in Preview window
  • In-game “fitting/hairstyle/makeover room” which lets you try on and dye all available skins under neutral in-game lighting
  • Human female idle animations

Reinstatement of BLTP, Vendors, and trait merchants in lvl1-15 area’s
Reinstatement of crafting stations, vista’s skill points and all other gated stuff which is annoying me each time I try to level an ALT. (done that 17 times now… Shouldn’t it prove I know a tiny bit already?) make everything available from 1st start on 2nd character and on. -PLEASE?-

23 lvl 80’s, 9 times map, 4ele, 4ncr, 3war, 3grd, 3rgr, 2thf, 2msm, 1eng, 1 rev.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

It’s not that simple. There are good parts (rewards), there are bad parts (locking down basic functionality for too long), there are parts good for complete MMO newbies but bad for everyone who knows what a standalone non-Facebook game is and simply facedesk for characters with several level 80s, there are parts which are good per se but delivered in an offensively stupid and confusing way…

Fixing targeting would go a long way to making this a great game. It is horrible right now, and more of a hindrance than an aide.
Players aren’t stupid, and our characters aren’t stupid. With the exception of a few outliers whose sanity I question, nobody in the middle of a battle goes “oh hey, instead of fighting the mobs that are killing me, I’ll just target this random non-aggressive mob and attack it.”.
If anything, mobs need to be prioritized by their immediate danger to the character, and have that only overridden by the status of the mob (i.e. champs still are easy to target).

As for the rest of the list, it’s pretty spot on. Anyone looking to buy this game should read the list and carefully look at it, and consider how long these glaring issues have been around.

Where are my gem sales? I want gem sales! Nerf EVERYTHING!

Crafting material storage for various items listed above.
Newer currencies added to wallet. Including lockpicks/keys would be nice too

Anything to reduce the quantity of clicking needed to sort loot (such as salvage all white/blue/green/yellow items, outside invisible bags). – right click option on salvage kits?

open/consume all containers ( eg champ bags, mouldy bags etc).

toggle option to auto consume essence of luck.

build/gear templates – likely to come at some point thankfully.

I like lists too, here is the stuff, that is for me personally absolutely overdue, or needs changes in general listed in no special order, just numerical as my brainstorm goes through my head:

1) Improving the Game Performance through giving GW2 a 64Bit Client together with at least Direct X11 Support.

2) Implementing finally the missing Game Content, which should have been in the Game from begin on, like Polymock, Bar Brawls, Target Shooting and turnign all of the explorable Racial Towns into serious interesting places, that invite players to permanently revisit them to so various things in these towns.

3) Rebalancing the complete Underwater Combat System and giving Underwater Combat for all Classes their complete own useable Traits, so that all Characters have seperate Traits for on land combat and complete seperate Traits for underwater combat

4) Fix finally the Day One Bugs of the Collection Achievements for those Champ Bag Collection and Fractals, which still don’t work properly and activate at all

5) The Merging of alot of useless/underpowered Traits to make space for new fresh and better thought out Traits that are more interesting and add more fun and synergizing to the Build Options of a Class

6) See above, just the same with Utility Skills, alot of the Classes have some really super underwhelming Utility Skills, which should get merged with certain other Utilitiy Skills, not to just create only some space for some better more thought out new Utility Skills, but also because some of the Utilities are by their design like they are currently mostly only situationally useful, or only on land, but not in wate,r because of ANet not thinking about it, how they could change the skill, so that it works everywhere, but maybe just only little different mechanics and an other name (see Tornado > Maelstrom)

7) Fixing Class related Gameplay Bugs, like Fear being able to interrupt a Thief’s Daggerstorm, where Stability should protect you from that crap, fixing the Thief Shadow Step Immobilize Bug, fixing the Thif loses Stealth from Shadow Refuge Bug and many more

8) Rework more of the Dungeons and add more new rewards to dungeons, than only the Armor Sets. Add to them all in some regular time patterns some new Minipets, new Armor Skins, new Weapon Skins, new Back Item Skins ect., so that people have more reason to keep on farming those dungeons actively, other than only for the quick gold, more Dungeo nredesigns are also necessarry to make truly finally out of all Dungeons real GROUP CONTENT and add to all Dungeons also a SOLO MODE together with either using HEROES (NPCs or Characters of your own Account)

9) More options to reduce Particle Effects and other stuff, thst you simple don#t want to see, like Minipets of other Players, Back Items of other Players, Legendary Weapon Effects of other Players and all this heavy game performance relevant stuff, that in masses can quickly bring your game to lag and have extreme FPS break ins

10) The removal of the obsolete Follower *cough Stalker cough *Function

    • Disable the NPE up to the highest level character currently on the account.
    • Make lights and shadows also affect the character models instead of the armor only.
    • Allow players to hide the personal story.
    • Fix charr footprints.
  • PvP
    • Add report options for AFKers and other saboteurs in PvP.
    • Send and check packets properly so players can no longer use lag switches and hacks to gain an unfair advantage in PvP.
    • Fix hot-join and custom arenas so players can no longer abuse them to get free dailies done.

I too would settle for a third of those changes in the Major category over an Expansion any day!

As a non veteran of MMO’s, the Expansion is an event i find myself totally unexcited about.

Definitely need to add to the high/medium- Mystic Forge rework. make it more like crafting tab, at least for hard/guaranteed/known recipes (like doing superior siege). Either that or at least give us the X number of time to do it or repeat button, so that we don’t have to click 10 times (or click 5 times and drag four times) just to make one superior siege.

- Allow Life Siphoning, Well of Blood’s ticks, Signet of Vampirism’s active siphon, and Blood Fiend’s auto attack healing to heal through Death Shroud.

- Collectible section for stuff like Geodes, Bandit Crests and Blade Shards

Blade Shards are used in the Mystic Forge, so unless they were to implement a way to pull stuff out of the Wallet, those wouldn’t work in there.

I didn’t read everything but here’s one thing: I consider a “settings jungle” to be a bad thing. As an example I’m going to use the auto consume of luck option. I think that it’s better when there’s an “use all” option for items for which it makes sense.
Reminds me that I want a luck eater, preferably for free. WITH my 4% magic find. I hate magic find with this current system.

I did have something I want to highlight… It has to do with inventory.
-I want more filters in the inventory search somehow, if there isn’t a way already, I haven’t actually tested? (example: masterwork & level: 53-75 & torch) Perhaps more search fields?
-Rearrangeable bank tabs: drag to rearrange much like inventory bags.
-Inventory autocompact somewhere else than next to the often used options.

I didn’t read everything but here’s one thing: I consider a “settings jungle” to be a bad thing.

Whichever program/game/app I install, the first thing I do is go and check all the settings. It’s a one time thing and a great time saver for many different people who will have different settings, but most likely for a very long time.

Blade Shards are used in the Mystic Forge, so unless they were to implement a way to pull stuff out of the Wallet, those wouldn’t work in there.

Being used in MF has nothing to do with being depositable.

- Collectible section for stuff like Geodes, Bandit Crests and Blade Shards

They should be in the wallet, not the collectibles, at least geodes/crests (and the keys). Blade shards only have use for the MF, so those could be in the collectibles in the bank.

No, make them level 40, and level 60 scrolls. Or make them “Gain 20 levels” period. I have enough and don’t want more of the same exact rewards every year.

  • The personality system: the thing that used to say if our characters used more Charismatic, Noble or Barbaric. It was removed from the character screen but not from the game, so it appears very once in a while in a dialog. Instead of trying to stealth remove it, ArenaNet could have kept it and improved the system.
  • Traits: please go back to the old traits unlocking system.
  • Skill unlocking: please go back to the old way of unlocking weapon skills. You could unlock all of your starting weapon skills during the tutorial very easily, instead of having development arrested like it is today.
  • Dailies: please go back to the previous dailies system. It was much more interesting than the current one.

And the menu UI is extremely poor. The skill bar and the health and energy UIs are ok. But the Hero screen, the preview screen, the ways to preview dyes and etc are incredibly lacking. It almost screens “lack of polish”.

Pet names are still not saving!!!! A problem that have exsisted since day 1. Saving pet names would make many rangers switch far more between diferent pets than now…. Me included.

Something that is small but has a physchological effect are tooltip errors. Some classes dont have many while others have really obvious ones. This can tell a person that some classes get preferential treatment while others arent thought about much because they are either perceived to be in a good place or are not know how to be dealt with. This is taken to the extreme I know, and it sounds paranoid. The fact that it is a possibility should be enough for someone in charge. Chances and hopes arent affordable.

toggle for {map}level bound rewards (would be practical for ascended gear mat farming) when toggeled or present {character}level bound rewards (would bepractical for leveling and t6 farming….(legendary)

I’d love getting some lvl 20-64 cloth gear so I can farm some t2-5 clothing scraps. or woods or metals… even the leather would be usefull..

visible cursor (prefer neon yellow for extremely heavy part. effect battles.)

23 lvl 80’s, 9 times map, 4ele, 4ncr, 3war, 3grd, 3rgr, 2thf, 2msm, 1eng, 1 rev.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

What disturbs me about this list is their reaction to some of the items on the list. Like Collin saying recently that Build Templates is a good idea (rather than a staple in modern MMO life much like wallets and cross character storage on the same account). It makes no sense really, and I question whether they are really gamers at this point because to say things like that really means that you’ve not played any modern MMO’s for years up to this point yourself.

Build Templates or multispec is absolutely a must in mmo’s with complex combat systems.

My personal set would be:

  1. templates for both gear and traits
  2. auto switching to templates when swimming
  3. condition damage stacking per toon and crits
  4. proper healing power scaling in PVE on all skills
  5. non-RNG progression (also non TP methods of progression by getting materials for projects that require an enormous insane amount of grinding for gold and for materials)
  6. a return to their original philosophy of how to get gear (Buy Ascended pieces from karma vendors, not talking about legendaries)
  7. Absolute separate PVE and PVP skill balancing (Explosives for engineers would like to have a word for the people who keep spreading the falsehood that everything is fine in their balance and range of attacks in PVE and don’t get me started on mines!)
  8. 100% AOE loot pickup with one click or autoloot on kill (which I enjoyed in LOTRO if Turbine can do it so can Anet)
  9. restoring materials to karma vendors for commonly used items for crafting (instead of having to travel the world to buy these items to craft. Crafting centers exist for a reason in towns let’s use them properly please especially with Cooking!)
  10. proper rewards for completing tasks in open world (instead of a few pieces of silver and a green item that gives us something we can turn in for copper. When I get gold for participating it should produce gold from the event I participated in)

Things that are at the top of my ‘to fix’ list:

- Build effectiveness against buildings/objects. Builds that rely on critical hits and/or conditions (and/or certain skills such as marks) are disadvantaged right now.

- The condition cap in PvE.

- The stronger conditions gettting overwritten by weaker condition nonsense.

- The fact that we don’t have a seperate build for above water and underwater, even though certain builds do not function or hardly function underwater.

- The fact that certain builds do not function or hardly function underwater.

- The fact that not all stat combinations are present and/or craftable.

- I think 1 trait point should be given at level 15 and every 5 levels after that. In addition, adapt traits should unlock at level 15, master traits should unlock at around level 45 and grandmaster traits should unlock around level 70. I don’t mind the trait unlocking through activities as much as some other people but trait progression sucks.

- The personal story should be changed back to what it was, which we now know will happen in the near future, thank goodness (and I would like some explanation for why it was changed in the first place and why it took so long to change back).

  • end to useless full CD blink fails: more or less check.

Now how could I have forgotten…

  • skippable unskippable cutscenes and

For soulbound items in the bank, rather than displaying:

Soulbound to another character

instead show

Soulbound to Ima Noob (or whatever the actual character name is)

You obviously have some sort of CharacterID saved on the item, so why not substitute the character name?

Yes, I know I shouldn’t be dropping soulbound items into my bank, but I sometimes do by mistake, then it’s a bother figuring out who it belongs to.

Better yet… just do away with soulbound entirely and use account bound.

My input:

Quality of life:
- Locking items on inventory, so it will prevent you from moving, selling, salvaging, etc. This come in handy to separate your actual gear from junk items. I’ve lost the count of the times I’ve salvaged something by accident.
- Trait templates, so you can save the build you just made. This QoL improvement will avoid the hassle of double-checking the internets to see if your trait points are 100% in place.
- Please, let us make custom chat channels. This is a glaring thing that every other MMO has and this doesn’t.

Misc:
- Let us disable the “I can outrun a centaur!” boon/condition voice effects. Sometimes this becomes VERY annoying… cough Signet of Inspiration cough
- Let us somehow tag for Roleplaying.
