Your experience with crafting legendaries
I crafted both of my legendaries. I slowly accumulated materials through hoarding. I gambled way too much gold away trying to get Dusk. Continued hoarding materials but each time I got the urge to flush gold down the mystic toilet I spent it on T6 mats instead. Then I saved up gold and ended up buying Dusk last.
My suggestion is before buying a single t6 mat, make your mystic clovers. You get a lot of T6s in this process.
I did map completion slowly, it burns me out kind of fast. I played for over 1,000 hours before making my first legendary, but I also wasn’t trying very hard at any given time.
Then for my 2nd legendary I got the precursor in the forge, so I started hoarding mats again and a couple of months after my first I had the 2nd one completed. A few guildies also helped speed up the process by giving me some mats which was nice of them.
You dont have to be one to love one.
Still need to get a precursor for that.
I’m one of the “never seen one in the wild” folks, so there’s that.
Soraya Mayhew – Thief
Melissa Koris – Engie – SF for Life!
I started to play since betas and crafted my Frostfang right after the 2nd SAB finished.
I never actively farmed for it, I was just playing normally (about 2 hours a day and a bit more on weeksends) and after I bought the pre from TP I already had most of the materials, I just did a few more HotW to get the tokens I needed and that was it, nothing spectacular.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
6900 hours played, been here since beta, 5 legendaries, never had any precursor drop, no credit cards used.
5-6 months of not hardcore farming, my method is old and still works, all i really do is do dungeons to gain gold~find a few good friends who know dungeon paths and are wearing full zerker and know there dungeon builds, learn to save up gold and not use it on random useless crap(for me i never buy minis, or outfits).
All my saved gold went to legendaries, bag slots, bank slots, personal guild bank….basically always look ahead before spending your gold, if its worth it to invest, or if its is only a momentary enjoyment.
i wasted about 500g worth in the mystic toilet on my 1st year in the game, never spent on it ever since, i would only use the rares i get from monster drops, basically save up for everything else and put the precursor as the last thing on your list, bcuz u might get lucky and get a precursor drop, if not you can always save for it like i do.

I think i might end up taking it close to this. I can’t decide if i want to farm it or just buy it.
In WoW and other mmo’s i knew the market well enough to play it and make tons of gol, but as i’m new here, i definitely have no experience in playing the TP.
I think for the first legendary it might be easier to buy it out but maybe cuz i am new, seeing these legs at 3kg, realistically what are your faming methods and what is their output?
I think at some point i will want to craft one just to say “i did it” however

on my 1st 6 months into the game i never thought i’ get a legendary weapon, ,but i jsut kept playing started saving up gold from wherever i can. If i’m free for the whole day usually id run dungeons with a friend or 2, like AC 123, CM 123, TA up&fwd, SE 1 3, COF 1 2, COE 123, HOTW 1, Arah 123……i’d say you’d get around 35g straight up gold as dungeon rewards, but if you get lucky with drops, with t6 mats, or charge lodestones and other crap worth more than 1 gold…..i get up to save about 50g.
I never bought a legendary because whats the fun in that, I have had a few friends who used credit cards to buy 9 legendaries and stopped playing the game a few months ago, apparently their end game was only to get a legendary weapon and show off. At the end of the day legendary weapons aren’t as legendary as it seems alot of people have them, and alot of people also bought them with gems….if you come from other MMO’s like WoW, the only thing that feels legendary in this game is either getting high achievement points(top 200) or getting really good in PVP, top 20 in leaderboards, and competing in tournaments…because those 2 things give unique rewards that you cant buy from the TP.
I know how legendaries are in WoW, since i played it too, and those legendaries are so rare and are very prestigious, that is not the case in GW2. I had an idea on how to make gw2 legendaires feel more legendary, check it out if you got time, https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/My-wish-for-the-new-legendaries/first#post4796168

Going to answer in bold next to the questions:
How did you get it?(Paid, or crafted) Crafted, by paid you mean IRL money or buyout a completed one?!
How long did it take you to gather the materials? About 30m after farming the gold for all of the materials!
What method did you use to gather the materials? Farming gold which often got me T6’s then buy whatever is left to fill up the stack!
How long did it take to craft you overall? From 0 gold i’d say 2 months? *!
How often did you play during that time period? *Wait there is something else then GW2? XD I’d farm gold for about 4-5 hours a day!
Did you enjoy it? The actual gold farming is rather boring, but the end result is satisfying!
I made an Incinerator as my first Legendary and finished a Howler just yesterday, making a legendary will either involve a ludicrous amount of time, or a amount of time of doing quite boring things in exchange for gold, this usually involves dungeons or some kind of farm train, so repeating something over and over aka grinding

I’ll be crafting my third tonight. I’m sitting around 2800 hours on my account, though much of that is afk/chatting/whatever.
I’d say I can craft a Legendary in something like 800 hours of normal play. I don’t adjust my play cycle for the purpose of acquiring a Legendary and stick to my routine 3-4 hours of gameplay a day. Note that I also have crafted two full sets of Ascended armor and a ton of Ascended weapons in this time, so I’m not laser-focused on the Legendary.
During that time, I only acquire a small number of the mats that I need and get the balance through T5->T6 promotion, laurels (I’ve probably put 250+ laurels into T6 mats), and straight-out buying them.
I despise farming and do it only very rarely, usually when something incredible comes out. I spent 2 or 3 hours in SW back when the chest farm was broken, for example. I probably spent about 10 hours in Pavilion the first year when farming it was a thing.
Since my process for acquiring Legendaries is to just play the game normally, I find it plenty of fun. I’m pretty sure I’d burn out fast if I tried to farm it.
Twilight and incinerator peak my interest the most
The word is actually “pique,” believe it or not.
Edit: oh, a few things. I have Moot, Bolt, and will make Minstrel tonight. I crafted all 3. I bought the pres for Moot and Minstrel (180g and 140g, respectively) and got Zap from the Forge by tossing in Rares (crafted from T5 at around 2s/ea as well as buy orders around kitten and selling back exotics.
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
I haven’t finished crafting a legendary yet, but my experience has been nothing but pleasant so far.
I got the dagger precursor on my second try in the mf, and sold it for around 1k before taxes, and got rich. Some other night I was feeling lucky and put in 100g worth of exotics in the mf (+ some stones) and got the warhorn precursor, which gave me ~200g profit. (i can’t use those weapons + it’s no use sitting on a precursor if you are poor)
i have around 100 of each t6 mat from clovers (i still need some of those), material promotions and bags; i buy bags for bandit crests, and I think it’s the easiest way to farm them if you want to (or turn crests into gold if they can be sold on tp, haven’t tried). Also so far i’ve gotten all my obsidian shards from bandit chests and spvp rewards, but when the time comes i’ll have enough karma to buy all i need just from playing the game
right now i’m crafting my ascended set, which takes some money since I don’t want to farm mats, and to compensate for that I usually make a full run AC with a pug whenever i log on, which takes about 40 mins for about 5g (+2g if i get an insignia from the soldiers gear I salvage since I got black lion kits from the daily reward), and teq for 1g, 10k karma, and a chance at ascended coffer
when i get done with the ascended, all this will go towards the legendary, along with the time gated mats i’ll start selling
so here’s my story, the rng seems to like me so far, and i don’t see the need to rush it
How did you get it?(Paid, or crafted)
Crafted.
How long did it take you to gather the materials?
~1 year. I started going for 100% map completion before going home for winter break in 2013, finished the legendary the night before coming back to school in January of 2015.
What method did you use to gather the materials?
None in particular, until the last ~500g or so. I wanted it before I went back to school, and it was the Wednesday before that so I started selling skill points/items I had had stockpiled but planned to use to finish hammering it out.
I did do a little bit of SW box farming (before it got nerfed) to finish the T6 mats, though.
How long did it take to craft you overall?
Like I said about, ~ a year, but I really wasn’t working on it for the whole time. I just dumped money into it whenever I felt like it. It’s hard to say because I didn’t really go specifically for it too much.
How often did you play during that time period?
A few hours a day, so pretty much the same as normal.
Did you enjoy it?
Not really. I do somewhat enjoy making money for the sake of money, but grinding for stuff isn’t my style any more. I didn’t specifically grind for it, so it’s hard to say, but I didn’t like the feeling that I was going to make all of this money and immediately throw it away.
I’ll likely do it again, though, since I recently got Zap out of the MF, but that’s a different situation.
I’m looking to get hopefully varying feedback before i set off on my “legendary quest”
Just don’t rush it or only focus on it. Put a couple gold per day into it and feel free to buy other stuff you might want as you go along. Just focusing on the legendary will end up with you getting burned out, which isn’t really something you want.

How did you get it?(Paid, or crafted)
After I got a precursor drop, 6 months
How long did it take you to gather the materials?
6 months.
What method did you use to gather the materials?
I played the game normally, primarily playing wvw. Buying items I needed off the TP.
How long did it take to craft you overall?
?? Not sure what this question is asking.
How often did you play during that time period?
I played normally, but quite often.
Did you enjoy it?
I enjoyed the game I was playing and eventually got a legendary. I didn’t specifically grind for any mat for my legendary, just kept a spreadsheet of what I needed and where I was at.
Apathy Inc [Ai]
How did you get it?(Paid, or crafted)
Crafted 14, sold 2(Eternity) before wardrobe patch and recrafted Eternity(already had twilight again before wardrobe path). Bought 7 with gold, check crafting cost and bidding cost on TP, you’ll be surprised that some buy orders get filled with minimal extra gold cost for Gift of Mastery and you save time by just using your gold to make a buy offer instead of buying mats to craft.
How long did it take you to gather the materials?
1-2 months depending on gambling
What method did you use to gather the materials?
Run dungeons fast, don’t settle for slow parties as much as possible. Try to run as many paths as you can, save tokens until you get recipes for AC, CM, TA, HoTW & Arah. Buy rares with CoF and CoE tokens for ectos and silk.
Gamble alot on the mystic forge. Have at least 1-2k gold before doing this and you have to not be a kitten(aka be prepared to lose everything) because you can only profit in the long run OR don’t gamble at all. When flushing, go hard or go home.
How long did it take to craft you overall?
1-2 months for gold, more sometimes because doing map completion is boring for me
How often did you play during that time period?
A full tour takes 3 hours, so that. If you’re gambling on the mystic forge better have some work to do or stuff to watch while waiting for buy orders on your mats to come in.
Did you enjoy it?
When playing with friends, yes. Outside of that situation it, it varied. Map completion after the first one is mind numbingly boring.
I’m looking to get hopefully varying feedback before i set off on my “legendary quest”, and grats to those who already got theirs!
Choose a gold generating activity that actually entertains you. I personally can’t stand doing SW chest farm for 8 hours a day, but some people do. Dungeons can be fun with people you know, trying to get random people to do faster strategies(and not necessarily harder) can be painful though. WvW can be fun with a great community in your server but gold generation is usually slow there.
How did you get it?(Paid, or crafted)
Crafted 5 legendaries (Flameseeker, Frostfang, Twilight, Predator, Juggernaut in that order).
How long did it take you to gather the materials?
I never actually paid attention to that.
What method did you use to gather the materials?
I’m curious guy by nature, I probably tried just about every method possible at least once. To name a few: farming cursed shore events, farming trolls, farming skelks, dungeons, champ trains, wvw trains, farming cof before dungeon change, flipping on tp, selling dungeon slots, selling puzzles… this list could go on. Right now I find mix of dungeons, and ram event (selling envelopes) to suit me best.
How long did it take to craft you overall?
Again this question is almost same as your question nr 2. Once you obtain all materials, its just matter of few clicks to craft it all together. With that being said, I crafted my first legendary fastest because I wanted to be first guy with legendary shield. But I think some guy beat me to it for one day. I remember seeing his yt video and feeling so sad…
How often did you play during that time period?
For first legendary I was in “farming” mode. I was just farming till I had it. For others I wasn’t even farming and I played when I wanted.
Did you enjoy it?
Some things more then others. For example farming dungeons is more fun to me then some other things. If I’m doing with friends its usually good atmosphere, if I’m puging its always different experience and you never get bored cause its fresh meeting new people, helping lowbies etc…
My final tip would be order in which u should buy/farm things. Before they announced new legendaries my usual routine was: precursor – gift of mastery – gift of weapon – gift of fortune. Reason for this order was because precursors were always going up in price especially in beginning of the game. The reason for making gift of fortune last is because just about everything in the game will drop t6 mats and u will get rares for ectos. So once u get to that step u might be even done.
However since they announced new legendary skins, prices of precursors are dropping slowly. So now it might be smart to go : gift of mastery – gift of weapon – gift of fortune – precursor. But its all just guessing and I doubt it will be much of a difference to go either way.
How?
Crafted 2, Twilight and Sunrise
How long to get materials?
Over the span of the time I started playing at the pre-event to the moment I decided to make it. Right at 2 years.
Method?
Killed bad guys, ran dungeons, participated in the game. For the first 6 months, I sold everything. Once I understood crafting, I salvaged everything.
How long to craft?
From the moment that I had Dusk drop on me, to finishing it… about 7 weeks. It took this long mainly because I had to wait for TC to turn green so that I could get the map completion(for 5 weeks I only needed the light house vista). It took me about 2 weeks to finish the map completion(60% to 99.99%), with the exception of the afore mentioned vista.
But the base materials, I had gathered and ready within a day or so.
I only had to spend about 300g, simply because I had most everything I needed already.
Play?
I play every day, between 4 to 7 hours. Weekends, 10 to 15 hours a day.
I did not always play this much, but this is what I played during the crafting period of Twilight.
Enjoy?
Sure. I learned a lot about the game and some of the different dynamics. I had jumping puzzles, but I had to learn and adjust my play style because some of the vistas are just like jp’s. I was happy not to have to spend a lot of money on the crafting aspect of the legendary. Was proud of myself for salvaging and storing.
I enjoy the game in general, building a legendry was never on my radar until I had the precursor drop. Even then, it took some time for me to decide to actually go after it.
I found the biggest issue, map completion. Not getting the change in color consistently really messed up my game plan. By the 4th week of not getting the right color map, I got a bit frustrated… so that aspect was not fun. I just had a second toon finish map completion, to I am ready for the next two legendry’s that decide to be made.
I made Twilight, held onto it for about a week then sold it. Bought Dawn, made Sunrise the following week. I did have to buy a lot of items, but then I had the gold to do it.
How did you get it?(Paid, or crafted)
Don’t have one yet, but I have all the non-specific materials for one of the metal ones! Just need the precursor and the specific item component. I stopped making the one I was going for (Frostfang) when they announced new legendaries were coming. Which was like 2 years ago -_-
How long did it take you to gather the materials?
Less than a year.
What method did you use to gather the materials?
Event farming for karma/loot. Salvaged and kept what I needed, sold what I didn’t and the money for that was put towards runestones mostly.
How long did it take to craft you overall?
Dunno, still haven’t made one yet!
How often did you play during that time period?
About the same as I do now, ~3 hours a day.
Did you enjoy it?
For the most part yes.
Hi all! I’m relatively new to gw2. I’m not new to the mmo scene, and tend to hit my games pretty hardcore.
I’m going to be in a bit a slow rut while studying for a few exams, but in a couple weeks i should be able to pound farming and anything else needed.
I’d like to find out from you guys what your experiences in crafting legendaries has been.

I’m looking to get hopefully varying feedback before i set off on my “legendary quest”, and grats to those who already got theirs!
1. Crafted mine. My pre dropped during the Southsun event, sat in my bank for about 6 months while I ummed and ahhed over where to make it.
2. About 9 months not really dedicating any serious focus to it. Had to level up the required crafting profs and acquire the gold for things like Icy Runestones and Recipes. Mind you I did this all before the glut of dungeon gold we have now, so farming gold from dungeons was out of the question.
3. I did it all the old fashioned way. Collecting mats in the field, up converting to T6, crafting exotics and selling them on the TP to gain gold, buying cores to create lodestones, that sort of thing. Back then I was TP noob so it cost me a lot more than it really needed to. Also I had many very generous guild mates who donated stuff
4. Probably a year since I wasn’t doing it seriously.
5. Pretty much every evening. But I hate dedicating my game time to a single task. This was something I liked about GW2. Everything I did contributed a little to the legendary.
6. It was ok I guess. It just sort of all fell together so when I finished it, it was more like “so what’s next?”
I recommend waiting for the expansion before setting off on your quest. You may end up seeing new skins you’ll like instead of the current generation
I’ve crafted ~6 legendary weapons so far and waiting on a buy order for the precursor to fill for the 7th. I find it to be fairly straightforward to craft them as the formula is predictable and consistent. I’ve been playing since launch.
How did you get it?(Paid, or crafted)

How long did it take you to gather the materials?
About 2.5 months for ~125 of each T6, bought rest off TP on last day*
What method did you use to gather the materials?
Doing general events. World bosses, laurels, silverwastes. Haven’t farmed anything specific for a mat. Dungeons for gold to buy precursor/other mats.
How long did it take to craft you overall?
2.5 months
How often did you play during that time period?
5 hours a day, sometimes more, sometimes less.
Did you enjoy it?
Yeah, it’s pretty fun to actually work towards something. I got sunrise and twilight now, I don’t like the other legendaries, so not having as much fun in the game as I had while getting my leg. Dunno what to do with gold atm.
Crafted: Kudzu, Dreamer, Frostfang x2 (sold 1), Flameseeker Prophecies
Bought: Eternity (only one worth buying rather than crafting imo)
How long did it take you to gather the materials?
What method did you use to gather the materials?
No idea, hard thing to answer when you do it off and on. While I was farming for Eternity, I kept all my T6 mats (& globs) so had a good ~ 1700/2000 of the necessary mats. I then used 200 laurels on T6 crafting bags. The $$$ didn’t take long at all for Flameseeker prophecies. Took maybe a week or so to make roughly 500 gold. Farmed cursed shore/silverwastes to get the money for Eternity plus played the TP.
I made Kudzu/Dreamer in late 2012/early 2013. I bought Leaf of Kudzu for 60g during Lost Shores. I got The Legend from Karka chest, eventually sold it for 180g (lol) to buy The Lover. No precursor drops since then.
I have spent rl $$$ on gold before. Chucked $10 on for roughly 80 – 100g a few times over the last 12 months.
How often did you play during that time period?
Why, a lot of course :p EDIT I had 4050 hours played after I soulbinded my 5th legendary Flameseeker Prophecies.
Did you enjoy it?
I didn’t particularly enjoy the world completion the 3rd time. It was okay but I was rushing and forcing myself to do it instead of taking it at my own pace.

On a side note if you havent been paying attention to the expansion news, there are going to be new legendaries (and probably new precursors for them). And there will be precursor scavenger hunts which may or may not end up being easier to do than grinding gold to buy one. So unless you really really want one now its probably a better idea to save up your gold/mats until the expansion hits and then decide.
Aeneaaa – 80 engineer
Aeeneaa – 80 Ele
Crafted: Kudzu, Flameseeker Prophecies, Quip, Bolt, Sunrise, Twilight, and Meterologicus
I only gathered all the mats for Meterologicus (took 9 months…8-10 hrs a day), I bought most of the mats for all the others off the tp (took a fraction of the time).
For Meterologicus I farmed everything Orr, dungeons, Frostgorge , etc…
For the others I farmed gold via playing the tp (easy and quick), directly farming gold (slower than tp), and farming some mats outright (slow and tedious)
I play more than most. 1st one took 9 months of steady 8-10 hr days…rest took less than that combined.
I certainly did not enjoy making any of them at all. I’m the type of person that likes building things myself. I get more satisfaction out of things that way. So when farming for things directly is such a chore compared to the alternatives, it bothers me. I don’t like having to buy other peoples’ luck either ( I had to buy my precursr0s b/c they simply wouldn’t drop). I did however have one finally drop (the chosen) after 8,770 hours and I was not elated, I was resentful. It’s just all out a very poor system imo.
Your experience with crafting legendaries
- Lol, next question please.
Never got to make one, waiting for expansion myself now.
Current legendaries look aweful anyway. Just my opinion.
On a side note if you havent been paying attention to the expansion news, there are going to be new legendaries (and probably new precursors for them). Especially if the new ones have a different recipe to make than the current ones. You can gather the mats, but I would not forge into the account bound parts until you know 100% that you want that skin. Even if the HoT skin turns out to be a better looking skin,
Crafted Kudzu
Precursor dropped in the MS…I used four dungeon token longbows
Been playing since first beta weekend…got precursor about two months ago…just finished crafting a week or so ago
Farmed gold to get most of my T6 mats
Had boatloads of karma and skill points to get other mats
Basically, I never was in a hurry…just took things as they came…and one day I had it

Very much, probably because i don’t mind farming. Didn’t even think of making one in the first place, but I like mining so much i had lots of gold from it. So I decided to make the first. I have 4 so far.

How did you get it?
Crafted 5 (Twilight, Kudzu, Bifrost, Sunrise, Incinerator)
How long did it take you to gather the materials and what methods did you use?
I crafted my legendaries in the following order:
1. Precursor
The reason I do this first is that it is the hardest to obtain and once you have it, the rest is super easy. It takes me 3-5 weeks of trying in the Mystic Forge to get a prec. I always craft rare 80 weapons, much cheaper than buying them off TP. My rule when gambling is to never spend more than 150g per try. As the saying goes, “better luck next time”. I never do it in 1 sitting. I don’t gamble everyday either. Prolly 2 times a week. I just take it easy, no pressure. I have the “No-prec?-no problem-it-will-eventually-drop” optimistic, “never-lose-hope” mentality. Haha The following are the results of my labor:
The Legend: MF drop after 4th try. Spent 7g. TP cost was 1,200g
Dawn: MF drop. 3 weeks of trying. Spent 200g. TP cost was 1,100g
Spark: MF drop. 5 weeks of trying. Spent 400g. TP cost was 1,300g
Dusk and Leaf of Kudzu were lucky drops from dungeons.
2. Gift of Mastery:
Among all the gifts, this is the easiest to complete so I immediately craft it once I’ve secured a prec. I’ve been playing since release so I already gathered all the mats without really trying by the time I decided to make a legendary. I can instantly craft this if I have Gift Of Exploration. World completion takes me 1 week(2hours a day) to finish. But it still depends on your server’s performance in wvw, in worst case you might have to wait for a month to complete wvw maps.
3. Gift of <Legendary Weapon>: 1 week of farming dungeons(4-5 hours a day) except Gift of Sunrise took 2 weeks coz charged lodestones are so expensive.
4. Gift of Fortune:
I do this last coz you can always get t5/t6 mats and rares for ectos everytime you farm dungeons. Usually takes me 1 week to finish this coz I always have lots laurels(around 100-200) saved up beforehand just for this gift.
Did you enjoy it?
Not really. Lol. Map completion and grinding dungeons for gold were mind numbing. But I do get a shiny for my effort, which is nice.
You are the useless log of flesh we have to drag behind us as we move forward.

I have made 5 (kraitkin, howler, incinerator, frostfang and sunrise)
How did you get it?(Paid, or crafted) – Crafted the Legendaries myself. Bought all of the precursors (venom for 7 gold after karka event!) except dawn, which dropped from a random risen.
How long did it take you to gather the materials? – Couple months probably, hard to say exactly. I go through cycles where I just play without paying much attention and accumulate mats and then I notice that I have ~100 of each t6 on average, then make a big push. I build up clovers through pvp tracks and obsi through pvp/silverwastes/Dry top
What method did you use to gather the materials? When it is time to really build up the stacks -TP flipping. I also have some non-traditional builds and farm spots for a few of the t6 mats that work quite well.
How long did it take to craft you overall? roughly 5 months each, on average
How often did you play during that time period? 2 hr/day plus some (ok, a lot) more on some weekends.
Did you enjoy it? Yes. It is a goal to work towards if you like structure, however it can quickly become unfun if you “need it now” and choose a path that feels like grind.
First, work your way towards owning a precursor. All the preparation in the world wont matter if you dont have the precursor (even moreso if you refuse to simply buy it). Hang onto your T6 fine materials if you must, but everything else should be turned into gold via one mean or another. Particularly because you’re going to need 400+ crafting to make the Gifts required for the legendary. Once you’re at the craft level you can craft the gifts after you buy the recipes, then start putting gold towards other T6 materials. Additionally, farm events like Teq for the massive karma gains. Another way to gain karma, though I’m not certain on the exact amounts, is to run fractals that are 10+ below your personal reward level (10 levels below is the max karma gain). This means you can get a PR of 11, then farm level 1 fractals. Karma’s going to be a big requirement as you’ll need obsidian shards to make lucky clovers (the recipe can also give T6 materials, so get 500 or so).
Right, before I keep losing focus:
- Get precursor, from drops, MF, or market, doesnt matter, just get it first
- Save T6 materials
- Sell kittens materials (raw, as insignia/inscriptions, or rare weapons/armor)
- Farm karma for obsidian shards
- Use obsidian shards to get lucky clovers (you need 77, but keep using the recipe as it helps you get T6 materials)
- Get and make gifts from their recipes
- Toss everything in the forge
- Dazzle everyone with your new, expensive as ****, shiny weapon skin
I’m personally holding off on the precursor until last. See what the HoT process is. Not to mention the prices for precursors are currently falling.
First I completed my map in 10 days. (Took extra week for wvw) I pvp alot so I already had my 500 dungeon tokens by working on title track at the Mist. I then went to the SW and farmed min 1k bandit chest a week. Also obtained 300-400 Heirloom pouches from SW. Salvaged all my rares for ectos. I would end up with 1 stack of ectos a week. That net me anywhere between 300-350g a week. I used the forge clover method to obtain most of my t6. I purchased the rest with gold. It only took me 3 months with SW farming to obtain 1st legendary. Again I already had tons of skill points and dungeon tokens from pvp title tracks. I crafted Incinerator 1st. My second Legendary the Meteorlogicus only took me 2 1/2 months with already having gift of exploration, karma, and skill points. I never had a precursor drop. All came from SW Lost bandit chest farming. My 3rd legendary the Minstrel took me right at 2 months. I just farmed gold from SW and bought from TP. My first 2 legendary I crafted. The 3rd legendary I farmed gold and bought from TP.
i quited when noticed that needed pve map 100 % and weaponsmith was a trap to burn the gold.
I finished my first one a good two or three months ago, after “grinding” i found it fun, doing a few dungeon paths each day, every day for a like 4 weeks. it gave me enough money for my precursor, the 100 icy runestones and a few tier 6 materials~ It was the Minstrel, and at the the time it cost 253 gold.
Im currently making my second and will soon have the precursor for it, it was originally going to be my first, but i would never have been able to afford 450g+ which is what “The Chosen” had risen to. I convert my Laurels to tier 6 mats(55 laurels a month is nice!), any ecto i salvage from the yellows i get out in silverwastes gets sold. And i already have a few of the gifts done because it was going to be my first one!
I can describe my legendary crafting experience as… meh.
They were supposed to be a long-term goal, but depend almost entirely on the amount of gold you have. Since there will always be people who can amass absurd amounts of gold, these items will quickly lose their meaning. There’s nothing legendary about a weapon if the guy who plays the TP instead of the game is cleaning his teeth with his spare Eternity next to you.
I’ve crafted a single legendary after two years and I probably won’t be crafting another one. Some of the skins are nice, but they’re not worth the investment for the most part. I have better things to do with my hard-earned gold.
It’s a pain. Only do it if you REALLY WANT IT
- How did you get it?(Paid, or crafted)
Crafted all of my 6 legendaries
- How long did it take you to gather the materials?
My first one took me a year (Sunrise). But lately it was more around 2-4months depending if it was The Moot (relatively cheap) or Twilight (relatively expansive)
- What method did you use to gather the materials?
That can be a long answer. But to make it quick : Keep everything, do dungeons, SW and Cursed Shore (which one you prefer), don’t try to farm every single items. For some you are better off farming the gold and buying them. Laurel can be turned into tier 6. You can turn your tier 5 into tier 6, same with cores (don’t do that with all of them, some will cost you more other will save you gold).
-How long did it take to craft you overall?
Exact same time as gather material/gold.
-How often did you play during that time period?
Around 30-40 hours per week.
- Did you enjoy it?
Some more than other. Over time I don’t play the exact same character so some Legendary I don’t use them as much as I used to. But overall, I enjoyed it. The only problem is sigils. I want to use my Legendary all the time, but I want several weapons with different sigils depending on the situation, but then I’ll have 3-4 weapons with the exact same icon in my inventory and I need to find which one have the right sigils. Wish you could swap sigil like you can swap stats on your legendary.
Especially if the new ones have a different recipe to make than the current ones. You can gather the mats, but I would not forge into the account bound parts until you know 100% that you want that skin. Even if the HoT skin turns out to be a better looking skin,
Great info from everyone so far. I may end up doing this. I was always a “gold hoarder” in wow and always had upwards of 600k or so. This way i’ll have the gold if anything comes along between now, and if nto i should be able to jumpstart my journey on the new ones
I’ve nearly finished my first one and so far I’ve enjoyed it.
It’s been about 2 years since I actually decided to work on it, but I’ve been playing since launch so I made some progress before then. That’s very slow compared to most people, but it’s how I wanted to do it. It’s also not been my sole focus – for example shortly after getting my precursor (bought from TP) I put buying stuff for my legendary on hold so I could make an ascended coat for my ranger.
I think my least favourite part was actually getting the dungeon tokens. I’m making The Dreamer so I had to run TA which I don’t mind, but doing the same small part of the game over and over gets boring. Planning ahead so I could space it out helped a lot.
Taking my time also makes getting T6 mats a lot less frustrating because I built up a lot of laurels which I’m spending on them instead of trying to farm them or farm gold to buy them. I haven’t got all of them yet, but even if I have to buy some the laurels will make a big difference.

Since i’ve started i hit gw2 pretty hard I level really fast and started multiple characters. I think i need to find a way not to burn myself out lol
How did you get it?(Paid, or crafted)
Crafted: 3x Incinerator, Quip, Dreamer, Bolt, Kamohoali, Meteorlogicus, Minstrel, Bifrost, Twilight + Sunrise for Eternity, Kraitkin, Frenzy, The Predator, Frostfang
Paid to have crafted: Rodgort, Moot, Flameseeker’s Prophecies, Incinerator, Quip
TRADED FOR: Traded 2 incinerators after the wardrobe patch for Juggernaut and Kudzu.
I have every Legendary skin bound at least once, then 2 Incinerators and 2 Quips for Twice-Told Legend title
Bought and given away: Juggernaut, and Twilight
How long did it take you to gather the materials?
Not long, I got lucky in the beginning with some precursor drops and sold them and invested pretty well into the TP, then used the TP money to buy majority of my materials. The longest part was mapping and farming the karma to make the ones I did.
What method did you use to gather the materials?
TP – Make money then buy
How long did it take to craft you overall?
They all varied, it took me about 6 or 7 months to make my first incinerator. After that I got a new one about every other week to a month depending on which ones it was. I haven’t made a new one in months.
How often did you play during that time period?
A lot. I WvW’d all the time in the beginning of the game and that is where I have gotten most of my good drops. Up to about 5,000 hours
Did you enjoy it?
I liked it at first, got repetitive. If I would have had to farm every bit of gold I would not have enjoyed it at all.
Jedi – Revenant, Tylox – Thief, Roeina – Ele, Korimor – Warrior

Er what? That would be an AWFUL lot of money. Like several hundred dollars. Like 4-500$.
