Tell us your profession, level, and your experience so far.

What do you enjoy the most about your choice? What do you dislike?

I’ll start. I chose a Guardian and am nearing Lvl 70 at present. I very much enjoy all the different weapon choices this class is capable of. Lots of support skills to choose from and seemingly endless choices of play styles. I haven’t tried them all yet, just a few which I’ve engaged with. I haven’t tried out half of my skills yet.

Another plus is how great armor looks on a Guardian, and the feeling of not being restricted to the sole role of “tank” like other games make this class out to be.

I’ve played a guardian to level 80 and have been there for a week, and I can’t really bring myself to play any other class. I love the way this class plays the greatsword; it’s nimble, effective against multiple enemies, and 5 is some amazingly useful multi-target control. I currently use a build that focuses on increasing damage to burning targets and doing lots and lots of burning. I carry a staff as well for support, mainly for dungeons, so I can duck back and let someone else handle the boss or mobs for a bit while I beef them up, give them a little health, and stop encroaching melee. The Tome of Courage elite is amazing for boss fights; nothing says “last push” like a full-party max heal.

Played a warrior and ele(my starter) to 80 and noticed some glaring differences between the two. To cut a long story short, I love my warrior and the variety of ways I can use her. I particularly love the banner-heal build when it was recommended to me, and haven’t really looked back.

Won’t really get into the ele but will describe it in one word: disappointing. They used to be so dam fun.

We sound very similar.

Greatsword here as well. All precision/condition, next is power, then a bit of toughness/vitality. I focus on burning primarily and use a staff from afar too.

It’s great fun. Still getting used to the finer mechanics of the class though. I consider the Guardian to be one of the more advanced classes so far.

Level 80 Elementalist.

My gameplay consists of throwing down AoE and zoning tools and desperately trying to prevent anyone from sneezing on me.

I feel like my damage is pretty good but I haven’t played any of the other classes to compare. I’m super fragile and scream like a little girl when enemy mobs get near me.

What’s so disappointing about them? Ele was going to be my second profession to 80 for the sheer amount of variety in magic.

We’re really squishy. And according to some, we don’t do as much damage as other classes either.

Am playing a Ranger. I just love ranged classes. “Death From Afar!” Yes I know every class can do ranged damage. But the Ranger excells at it… especially with the pet system.

Not only can I use long and short bows, i got axes i can throw and use for close in work.

The spirit guardians are also a nice touch.

I’m a Ranger and I just hit 80 – and what I love the most is probably the whole pet management aspect (and the Pokemon feel about going around trying to catch em all :p).

Overall one thing I like is how different weapons have different skills for different professions, plus different skills depending where you equip them, like you said there are quite a number of possibilities in builds that you can experiment with .. really like how getting all this in line with what you want and creating that synergy in your build with trait points etc.

Dislike, well some Pet skills are bugged and not all are player controlled (only F2) .. so hopefully they reduce the AI control down the line

We don’t. The difference between a warrior and ele in survivability, damage and utility are night and day.

If you really think that’s the case, keep a thread about it alive in the Elementalist sub-forum.

I started this game as a theif (now 14), liking the idea of the initiatve system and the overall burst damage (I gravitate towards burst damage classes in most games). I adored the lack of cooldowns on skills, but this led to a faster paced game than I anticipated; constant skill spam was required because the defense was lacking. This meant knowing what each skill on my quickbar did, when the right situation to use it was, and an understanding of multiple weapon sets; a bit overwhelming for someone new to using the keyboard to activate skills. I found myself constantly hitting the wrong keys or struggling to move and attack at the same time, because Im simply more used to using the mouse to select skills.

I decided to reroll my character and now play a level 21 elementalist, and I couldn’t be happier. 20 skills per weapon means I have the variety I want, with a reasonable mix of healing skills, defensive skills, AOE’s, and damage dealing skills. They’re all neatly organized as well! The sheer versitility makes me quite happy; I can’t count the number of times I’ve chain lightninged a group of 3-4 enemies to death, called down firey death from above on an event cluster of 20+ mobs, or just healed my quest NPC while he tanked for me (my thief always had a problem with quest partner NPC’s dying on him…) And of course, the run speed boosts are just a huge plus since she’s my 100% exploring character.

I look forward to trying out the warrior or guardian next, as a more defensive class.

I’m currently playing:

Ranger / level 46
Warrior / level 25
Thief / level 16
Guardian / level 21
Mesmer / deleted a level 10 this morning, replaced it with an Engineer, now level 2

I need a couple more toon slots for my necro and ele. But haven’t gotten around to that yet. I enjoy all the classes so far, except for mesmer. Tried to like that one, but I’ve never been much of a caster player. Which is prob wht I haven’t rolled the necro or ele yet.

I really like the Thief though. Even though, of all my current classes..its the one I’m least proficient at. Its just a fun class to play.

I am not going to talk about my first, as I consider my first few characters as merely a way to learn how to play the game. They have all been re-made, as I have one of each class now in the leveling process.

I will instead talk about my Mesmer.
Level 30

I love the amount of distraction tools and enjoy the dancing in and out of combat. Playing a Mesmer requires finesse and allows for a lot of growth in learning to master it. One on one fights (elites/champions) is amazing fun.

The only downsides I experience are during certain DE’s. I simply cannot compete with more AOE capable classes regardless of weapon choice. I can get Gold most times, so i accept it as a minor weakness and a trade-off for the existing strengths.

80 Warrior, Loving every minute of it.

Each weapon type has a different play style and perks that keep the warrior interesting in multiple environments. Truly a battlemaster in WvW with the battle standard and using the hammer in large groups . Twin axes and greatsword are fun as well and I have been toying with a few utility builds on the side with many different angles to do it, ranging from banner builds to different weapon/shield combinations. I have not enjoyed a warrior more in any other game like I have in this one.

The highlight of every night is jumping into a group of players with “Death from Above” and decimating people with my hammer as my guildies assist my interrupts and knockdowns.
