Q:
Your favorite profession to play as?
Guardian: high survivability, above average DPS, and chocked full of useful skills like reflect/stability/condition removal.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Depends on the game mode, i’m always switching between all my characters ( 8 80, 2 currently leveling). Here’s some general usefulness of classes, mainly in dungeons:
mesmer: driving the nerf train, not really wanted except in www roaming and some record runs for portal tricks, but fun class to play, access to powerful burst and stealth in pvp, 100% reflection uptime and great party utilities in pve.
Necro: the least wanted class in dungeons due to their selfish nature, but good in pvp and not so bad in roaming, lack mobility and suffer from being focused.
Elementalist: currently strong in all game modes, rules pve by a large margin, best dps in the game, legendary team support, conjures. In pvp, celestial gives overall tanky build with still a good damage output.
Ranger: average in pve, suffer from the fgs meta, but a well played ranger is a good addition to a team. Some interesting 1v1 builds, lacking in zergs, average to meh in pvp.
Engineer: overall good profession, king of vuln stacking in pve, has access to stealth, proj. reflect, and might in a limited way. Great roaming class.
Thief: good damage output and burst, best roaming profession because of mobility, stealth, and burst, useful in pvp.
warrior: still good in pvp and roaming, easy to play, good solo profession, not really useful in groups except for banner buffs.
Guard: good in all game mode, used in pve for their defensive support and their totally respectable dps, boonspam in pvp and www.
That was for the strenght of each, regarding the fun you’ll get to play them, I find deceptive classes the funniest for roaming ( thieves/mesmers), I usually play engi, war or guard in pvp, and ele in pve. Depending on what you’re seeking, some classes may suits you more than others.
Also, welcome to the game, and have fun!
Mesmer – Mesmer – Mesmer and then of course there is the Mesmer.
I guess you can say I like that profession.
necromancer, my first and the class I absolutely love playing and have great fun with.
I mostly pvp with it now, though I do fracs with my necro as well,
I also have an ele, created just for dungeon running, but it’s also a class I’ve had good fun playing. Lots of damage, lots of support, multiple ways to play…just all around interesting class.
These 2 would be my main, and although I’m leveling/have leveled others…I’m not too bothered about them.
Warrior is probably my favorite, but I also love Thief and Elementalist
Necromancers are really fun with their kitten crowd control and minions.
I got 8 lvl 80 of each profession and switch between them.
Necromancer, very good.
Only problem is that most content are direct damage design, best for “play how I want” concept, which limits Necromancers usefulness abit…
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.
Engineer. Love playing that class. Whilst it has a higher learning curve, it has various skills and builds that make it great to play. I’m also leveling up a guardian for dungeon runs.
I love my thieves, but it’s really hard to pick one class. I’m ultimately not fond of mesmer (very buggy), and elementalist (it doesn’t click for me).

Because we can’t be angry about both?
I absolutely love playing a ranger (I’ve 5 of them, one for each race, and also 80’s of every other class). Why? You have to really pay attention when playing a ranger, since it’s incumbent upon the ranger to keep their pets alive. Companionship when soloing map completion. I like that the class is an underdog as far as LFG dungeons go. RLots of survivability, not the best dps but the evades and animations are the best. There’s no press 1 until you’ve killed the mob.
Each class has it’s niche. Just find your own!
Mesmer, Ranger, and Guardian have turned out to be my favorite GW2 professions. In Guild Wars it was Necromancer, Ritualist, and Mesmer, although I did spend a lot of time playing my Assassin as well.
Ele is the best imo. It has more of a learning curve than a warrior or a guardian or something and is a lot squishier, but once you learn to survive on it then it can do anything and you’ll never get tired of it (well until you get bored of the game itself). Its also viable and fairly balanced in all of the game modes right now
Guardians and warriors are also a good choice for newcomers if you are having trouble with the combat system. Go to heart of the mists and you can try them all out at max level, and you can fight against the training dummies to see how you like them.
Aeneaaa – 80 engineer
Aeeneaa – 80 Ele
I’d say Ele and Ranger (keep your Charr Ranger – least played race for Ranger!)
Both are amazing PvE. Pets for Ranger are a helpful factor for newcomers and can do your tanking for you.
Ranger and spotter/frost spirit are an asset for dungeons. Ranger as condi/spirits or power ranger can be surprising in PvP (don’t let anyone tell you differently, just l2p issues).
Ele is also very much essential for dungeons and any PvE event.
Whatever you try, good luck.
Only 1 character, a Sylvari Ranger.
