Your favorite race/class
Engineer as class hands down for me. It has a really high skill cap, so it is a hard class to master, which I really like. Next to that the theme of engineers really suit me.
As for race I like sylvari most, just because of their curious nature and do not really know actually who they are and what created them (Yet).

I like to do pvp, is engineer a good class for that? And are there any benefits to picking one class over the other for pvp?
For races, I like Humans (yeah, I know, I’m boring), Asura, and Sylvari. Norn and Charr “feel” too heavy/bulky for me, so I have a hard time enjoying them. Not to mention I can’t find a single decent Charr set up (gear) that I honestly like.
As for classes, uhm..this one is a little harder. I play essentially everything (not necessarily well), so it’s hard to pick a ‘favorite.’ The classes I typically enjoy most though are ele, mes, necro, and ranger. Thief might join that list after HoT launches, since it’s new elite spec was mildly entertaining during the last beta.

This applies to pretty much any MMO. In Cataclysm WoW (the best WoW) Sub Rogue and frost mage were the best in general with blood death knights and protection paladins being the best flag carriers. Warriors apart from some niche functions were bad for PvP but were the best class for raiding and dungeons.

Human Guardian, Norn Ranger, Sylvari Mesmer, Asura Anything (they’re sooo adorable!) and I can’t play Charr since their four legged lope makes me motion sick. XD
My main is a Charr Warrior. Though I use the term “main” very loosely. I play all classes for various reasons and builds. Even “builds” is a little loose, since the main reason to go through the trouble of making multiples is mostly for gear space.
I find myself more fond of Elementalist. It’s a highly versatile profession with a good skill cap. (And after some of the warrior nerfs, warrior’s not as much fun to play. :\)

You can’t use racials in PvP. Maybe Asura since it’s harder to target but you should be using tab targeting anyway. Human has avatar of melandru whose skillset compliments thief since it shakes off conditions, has stability, healing spring, and a long charge time AoE CC. Some good stuff the class doesn’t normally have access to the long cool down seems worth it as it has situational usages as an uh-oh button in large scale group play anyway.

In PvP, racial utility skills are disabled. In PvE, most of them don’t get used, as they lack synergy with existing options. Like the Charr battle shout isn’t actually a “Shout,” so it doesn’t get bonuses that would normally happen from Guardians or Warriors, or any support gear that would normally buff them.

I wondered if this was where you were going with that pvp question.
In structured pvp, everyone is on an even playing field, so race makes no difference.
In PvE (and WvW) you can use the assorted ‘racial skills’ that the difference races have, but in many cases are situational at best and completely laughable at worst.
