Your mechanics for joining a map is so bad
what do you suggest they do?
How long do they save your spot for?
1 minute? 2? 10?
dc’s happen…it’s not that big a deal.
I’m more bothered by the fact I have to keep clciking “join” to get onto a map..=.=..a queue system is a must!
I ve seen like sever hundred skins, could you take a break and start improving the mechanics of the game a bit?

We could use a “district” panel to see the multiple copies of a map, and how many friends and guildies each map has. You could access this panel by clicking any waypoint in the area, and using the third additional “District list” button that would appear in the panel.
And even better, guilds being able to create private copies of a map if they have enough online people in that map, by paying lots of merits and influence, then those copies would appear with a “lock” icon in the list, and will be available only to the guild, members of the same alliance, and guests.
Oh, but we need alliances and guild guesting first. Yeah.

I kinda doubt you’ll ever see that.
Free map hopping would be a bit abusable, for one. And I don’t think they’d go for anything that splits the community for these big events. They need as many people in there as they can.

5 minutes would be reasonable. If a PC crashes, that’s a good amount of time for it to be restarted, and logging into gw2. An internet connection is unpredictable though, but sometimes there’s a brief moment when people get dc’d and then they’re able to get back on again. 5 minutes isn’t too much to ask for.
Agreed. The “District Menu” in GW1 was several orders of magnitude better than what we have in this game. Sure, it was for lobbies only, but it would be great to have.
They could in theory do the GW missing loot thing, but that doesn’t solve the whole problem.
Would be nice for them to at least try that in a smaller scale environment like WvW. If its successful they can add it to more maps.
If people didn’t taxi other people into maps that were already soft capped, you would be able to get back in if you were disconnected.

I would argue that 5min is a bit long.
If a few numbers crash..it could affect whether say teq succeeds or fails.

there is some time limit if you’re in a party and dc. I’ve managed to log back in and start right on the same map..but that’s within 30seconds to a minute to restart.
Just party up when doing world bosses.

Having a list with all copies of a map is not the same as free map hopping.
Even if the list was added, there could be limitations. For example, right now, maps that get two empty ask players to leave. Those would get closed even though they’ll appear in the list.
And under certain circumstances certain maps would only accept new people slowly so the map doesn’t get filled too fast so in the list you’ll see something like 48/50 and 60/75 as the higher cap increases, and players would have to wait to join that map.
And there could be “Slider charges” that are consumed when you switch between maps and recharge at a fixed rate, so if you switch a lot very often (e.g.: Hunting for events near the end to leech the rewards), you’ll end up without charges and can’t switch between copies of the map, and have to wait for them to recharge or for the map to get empty enough to close and get a volunteer free ride.
And events could be adjusted to give extra rewards for those who were in previous events and pre-events in meta-event chains, so it’s better to stay for the whole thing instead arriving to hit the boss 3 times and cash in.

In PvP, there are pretty big penalties for leaving the game part way through a match (ie dcing) but there is a grace period…for a grand total of 30 seconds.

Sorry but no to that. I switch a lot for harvesting and would hate to have that even
more nerfed then it was already with the megaservers just because there is maybe
a small chance that it is better for event hoppers .. but also only in some cases why
its worse in other cases.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

Unfortunately, it IS a big deal when GW2 has no reservation system and has implemented mechanics such as buffs that you lose upon leaving the map - this includes a disconnect.
I’m in a bad position myself for GW2, between my ISP and GW2’s EU server is a faulty route that drops me every so often, and as you can understand, having that happen in a map like Silverwastes is extremely frustrating.
Now ArenaNet cannot solve disconnects, they are an unfortunate reality. But what they CAN do is implement a reservation system and prevent buffs and such things from being removed upon disconnects.

Well based on the initial concept behind the join function (i.e. to play with friends) a queue system is kind a silly. However the street always finds a use, and currently the join function is used for taxi purposes. Actually I think we don’t so much need a queue as much as a new system that caters for the need at hand (i.e. to taxi people). The LFG is just not really designed around that idea.

But just think how many trees / ore I could mine! But yes abuse-able.

I seems like people want to fit a perfectly good square into a circle. Why do you want a District system? For what uses? I’m guessing it’s for things like Silverwastes or Tequatl? In that cause Maslow’s Hammer seems applicable. I’d personal rather have ANet not adapt a hammer into a screwdriver but rather just give me a screwdriver.
You usually rejoin the map you got d/c’d from, unless that map is full. Which in the SW, towards the end of a cycle, it usually is. Blame all of the lazy people only ever joining 80%+ maps :P Surprisingly, this situation would not be helped whatsoever if you had a map selector, since the map would still be full.
As for the map selection, it wouldn’t work well considering how the harvest nodes work. They could, however, make the nodes essentially ‘static’ over a 24 hour period and keep tabs on what node the character has harvested from to prevent farming. It’s just a lot of potential coding to fix an issue which really doesn’t affect many people all that often. Yes, it sucks that you sometimes can’t rejoin the SW map you got d/c’d from because the map is full, but the system works pretty well otherwise.
In the end, they’ve got better things to be doing that spending tons of resources to implement some kind of ‘map picker’ that still wouldn’t help you if the map is full.

That is to be fixed too. Nodes are set per character and map copy, when they should be per account and across all copies, having the nodes in the same spot regardless of map copy, and having to ability to use the map API to see where they are.
