>Class Balance is a Joke<
Love Necro for wvw, war/ranger/thief close seconds
Least prob engi, and ele- I like ele just pain in the kitten to balance it the way I want, and no weapon swap <.<
Favourite: Necromancer. so much fun to play in both pvp and pve, whether you go powermancer or condimancer.
Least favourite: Engineer. so clunky and boring to play – and mesmer, just too fiddly and tedious
Favorite: Necro. I really like the “you suck now” playstyle. I’m keenly aware of the flaws the profession has, especially it’s lack of use in most PvE, but the “you suck now” is pretty well done.
Least favorite: Thief. Polar opposite in playstyle to Necro. Hyper-mobile, dodging all over the place squishy that focuses on in-and-out and burst. I have no issues with the design of the class, but when you heavily main Necro, it’s almost impossible to play at anything resembling competence.
Fave: Engineer, andd prefer medium professions.
Hate: Elementalist though Mesmer is also boring. I really dislike all the light professions.
Favorite: Elementalist. I find D/D fun. I love how different staff play style is from D/D
Least Favorite: Thief. I find it boring and less complex
(edited by ionix.9054)
fave: engi least fave: nec
Favourite: Guardian.
love the play style, the concept, everything
Least Favourite: Thief.
Think its a silly play style, daft mechanics and nothing but annoying perms-stealth and wanna be assassins.
Favorite: Necromancer. Killing through control and debilitations as much as raw damage is what I enjoy most in RPGs. Screw the “rush the enemy until hes out of health” and screw the “kite the enemy until hes out of health” ill take the “make sure the enemy cant rush or kite as well as reducing any damage they can do in the meantime while my bone minions rush up to say (Hellooooo) and I get the pot boiling”….
Edit: Least favorite has to be the thief. I never more fealt like I was playing to make someone unhappy than I was to have fun then when I was on a thief.

Favorite is elementalist. It’s what I wanted to play in Guild Wars very badly but didn’t manage, somehow ended up being a ritualist instead. Found that staff ele is a beautiful thing in Guild Wars 2. Still interested in dagger ele as well since daggers, how cool is that. Just never managed to play my dagger eles very much.
I adore elemental magic because Final Fantasy games. First GW characters were necro and ranger though, ele attempts only happened when I picked the game up couple of years after buying it and not really playing very much at first.
Least favorite: Warrior. I… don’t like heavy armor. Or close range combat which is an image I get when I think about warrior even though I know about the longbow. Don’t like many 1H weapons either…
Guardian isn’t here only because I needed a heavy armor wearer for some sylvari cultural I liked, guard was better option for me than warrior.

Favorite: Anything but Warrior
Least Favorite: Warrior
Favorite: Mesmer. It just feels so intuitive and yet has tricky things to keep it interesting. I like being useful, having solid ranged/melee options, and light armor has some of the prettiest clothes in game.
Least Favorite: … several might tie, here. Engineer for sheer awkwardness of play (also mine is male Norn, so it feels even more clumsy and slow). Ele for terribad squishiness (also mine is a charr and was one of my first alts, so it was extra hard). Ranger for boring combined with too many pet choices that never retain names. I have one of each at 80 but never play them unless they fit an RP scene.
I love my engineer so much I rolled four more engies so I’d have every race covered.
Least favorite is probably mesmer, because I am awful at it.
Favorite: Ranger
Least: Warrior
I definitely agree with Jerus here…
Favorite: enjoy all professions except Warrior
Least Favorite: Warrior; any profession rolled as a Charr
All the professions are fun and have their own bit of unique flavor. They all have their own strengths and weaknesses in different game modes, but this adds a bit of diversity in my gameplay. With 13 exo/asc geared 80s, I have different toons for different dungeons, PvP, WvW, and even one just for WB train. Maintaining a good bit of variety is the best way to keep from ever feeling ‘burned out’ imo. I do get stumped when someone asks “What is your ‘main’?” though. However, that term isn’t really used in it’s original context anymore, in GW2 anyway.
Fortunately for me, there are plenty of people in the dungeon scene that enjoy playing Warrior that I can benefit from their excellent, unique party buffs without actually having to play mine .
Charr are just…the worst imo. Clunky, clumsy, awkward, and most armors look bad on them. The one exception to this is, ironically, Charr Warrior. :\
Favorite: Mesmer or Ranger I believe.
Not so favorite: Necro or Engineer
I’d order them around…
Thief
Engineer
Guardian
Ranger
Mesmer
Warrior
Necromancer
Elementalist
The only reason Necro is so low on the list is because I primarily PvE, and conditions are so useless there. I just don’t really enjoy the elementalist playstyle at all, though.
Fav: Mesmer and Necro are up there together
Least fav: Warrior cause it’s very boring
Took the liberty of adding my reasons. Listed them favorite to least favorite.
Favs
Necro (Zealot/zerk siphon/wells is fun and I am kitten good at it! Don’t judge me.)
Ele (6/1/2/3/2 staff which I mostly use for WBT)
Mehs
Mesmer (Fun to dress up and has some useful utilities but still… meh)
Ranger (Fun to name pets but I dislike the bow meta)
Guard (Fun experimenting with builds and traits but its kind of boring to play)
Dislikes
Thief (Class lost it’s luster a few nerfs ago. Switched to necro)
Warrior (Class playtype is too simplistic and handling is too easy for my tastes)
Engineer (Never appealed to me. Never will.)
I hate the staff elementalist, it’s the surest way to die for me. Daggers is better, but I generally don’t like the class.
I like warrior and ranger best, with necro following close behind. I use the ranger mostly for mid-ranged combat and the warrior when I feel like smashing things (axe + torch on ranger, sword + axe on the warrior)
Favorite: Guardian
Least: Engineer
I got two favorite classes: The Ranger and the Necromancer. Very easy to learn, can hold their own during solo play and I just love classes that have minions/pets in general.
As for my least favorite class, it would be the Elementalist. While that class can dish out the pain in a dungeon and in WvW, they don’t survive very long with my internet connection being less than optimal, I can’t dodge efficiently and consistently. I suppose I’d consider a thief one of my least favorites too for the same reasons.
Favorite: Ranger. I love the concept of the sword and bow skirmisher.
Least Favorite: Ranger. I really dislike the pet system in GW2, the skill lock in sword 1, and the animation of Rapid Shot.
Favorite depends on the mood :s
If I were to put it in two, I’d say thief and ranger. I love high mobility classes/styles of play.
So unsurprisingly, guard is my least favorite to play despite liking the flavor and looks.
That said, I dislike the engineer most as a class; extremely boring and easy to play and total immersion-killers.
Favorite: necromancer
I love the lore, magic, and play style of the necro. And would love it more if anet made it like they said it should be, a class that once you engage, is hard to run from. I love loading enemies up with conditions, then using epidemic to see them all spread. I love deathshroud, and I like the concept behind life siphons as well, just wish they would work…most of all though I love fighting enemies in WvW like guardians eles and engies, boon heavy classes, then just using corrupt boon at the right moment, oh the satisfaction.
Least favorite/most hated: Thief
Every game I play I HATE the stealthy, glass cannon type classes, but eventually I figure out how to counter them….however the thief in gw2 is by far the class/character/profession I hate the most out of any game I have played with the stealth type in it. Between the instant teleports, on demand stealth, their dang initiative system, and their ability to take away about 1/2 of your health away before you can react, they just make me want to pull my hair out! And if they even suffer so much as a light scratch they just stealth, port, and leap away. I’ve fought guardians, warriors, mesmers, engies, rangers, eles and other necros and have won and lost, most of the fights ill enjoy even, but I can honestly say I’ve never enjoyed fighting a thief and probably never will.
This is primarily based on PvE and WvW, some experience in pvp but it’s about the same.
Favorite: Guardian
Least Favorite: Tied between Mesmer and Necromancer
Necro for PvE, Ranger for PvP. Don’t WvW too much anymore, but I use to have a thief for that.
Favorite:
It’s actually between the Guardian, the Elementalist and the Thief at this point. I play those three as my mains and alt between them a lot. All of them are versatile and have fun play styles.
Least favorite:
Probably between the necromancer and engineer. They seem like really fun classes that just don’t live up to their potential and I often feel like I’d be gimping myself by playing as either. Engineers in particular I never see in groups in PvE content. I mean really, I see everything else, even rangers and necros, quite commonly in groups for dungeons and fractals, but I can’t remember the last time I saw an engineer in a dungeon or fractal group, which really makes them feel like a unanimously frowned upon class. Engineers do seem really strong in PvP though, but I reckon they need some more love for PvE.
Favorite is Ranger. Least favorite is Warrior.
Warriors feel boring to me. In theory, they’re good at facerolling content. Everyone loves Fracerolling stuff and then complaining the game is too easy.
I also really enjoy mesmer.
Fav: Ele.
Least fav: well fought between necro, ranger and warrior.
Favorite: Grenade Engineer. I love the way you can make grenades hit things they have no business hitting.
Least favorite: Elementalist. Tissue-paper armor and slow slow slow cast times. Elementalist was the slowest class to 80 for me, and I just hate everything about playing it.
The only class I still don’t like playing at this point is engineer. If I ever bother to level to 80 so I can slot in some traveler/speed runes, it’ll probably change. Speedy kits or going 4 deep into a lame skill tree? No.
Favourite: All the classes except ranger.
Least favourite: Ranger.
Favorite is a toss up, Thief/Mesmer.
Least favorite: ranger for sure. Overpowered and a one trick pony. ( even if it is a totally OP trick, namely longbow RF )
I love most professions, my favourites vary depending on which one i get hooked on. Let’s just say:
- the one character i have 100% world completion on is Ranger
- the one which i aim to get a legendary for is Engineer
- the one that i’ve made most characters is Necro
- the one i always level up but always end up deleting (but can never resist leveling up again) is Thief
- the one that really made me learn how to control a character and play the game mechanics is Elementalist
On the other hand, i’ve never had a Warrior bigger than lvl 55. I find them really boring. I have a Mesmer and had fun with it for a while, but i find it a bit confusing (get it? hah… no, wasn’t funny) and i haven’t been playing with it for almost a year so i can’t get the hang of it and just don’t like it overall.
Favorite: Thief
Least Favorite: Engineer
There’s not only black white for me at least. But here are the onese i like:
Ranger, Thief, Guardian, Warrior, Mesmer
The ones that I am not so a fan of it, since I die too fast or I find it too complex or they are simply too weak. Though I still like to play all the classes from time to time.
Neco, Elementalist, Engineer
I kinda like them all but Mesmer. I loved playing Mesmer in GW1, and it’s nothing like the class anymore. It’s slow and clumsy compared to the fast char I had in gw1.
Tried every class, found them all miserably boring except for engineer.
Fave: Ranger!!!!
I loved GW1 rangers, so it speaks for itself I rolled another one in GW2.. Haven’t looked back ever since.. :-)
Least fave: Elementalist
Nothing wrong with the profession, a good Ele is very hard to counter and an awesome addition to your party.. But the class just doesn’t suit me..
Best looking: Charr Warrior (its my pve main and he gets all the legendaries)
I enjoy playing the most: Mesmer (but all those skirts … I only play it in pvp)
Least favorite: Engi (this class will work you out for even most basic things, like healing. If u wanna master healing turret u gonna have to spend time practicing or watch guide. Hell even if u wanna swiftness u gonna have to press button every 5 sec… I’m not saying all that is bad thing in general, but its just not my cup of tea).
Favorite: Warrior. (“Metrics” would say otherwise, as I only have one :P) The class drew me in with its great weapon selection and the joy of hammer-swinging.
Least favorite: Necromancer. After hours and hours of poking, I’ve yet to come up with a build I can like. Minions have terrible AI and survivability, weapon sets feel weird, and many of their utilities have longish cooldowns without too much benefit. I’m hoping to at least get inspired with a dual-knife Well build after minion master failed.
I tried every class (except for necromancer, still leveling that) to make me switch from mesmer but I always end up playing a mesmer. Thief is a second and ele would be higher but I can’t press that many buttons well on a laptop.
Warrior is my least favorite class. It was my first to 80 but shortly after gearing it I got bored and made my mesmer. It is strong; it is easy; and I like to have warriors with me but playing as one does not sound appealing to me.
Favorite: Warrior (Got 2) – I like the mobility and the weapon array.
seconds: Meele necro & ranger.
Least : Mesmer -The phantom mechanics is annoying. More anoying than ranger pet management. While very usefull class, in hands of a good mesmer(not me), i can’t bring myself to play it more than a few dungeon runs. Even after spending some ascended stuff and expensive skins on it.
Fav, mesmer, ele and ranger, just find them very fun, staff ele not so much but it is still enjoyable
Least liked warrior, just don’t see the point.
Favorite: Necro
Least Favorite: Necro
Anet needs to work on dat balancing and reworking the class.
Least favorite: Engi (this class will work you out for even most basic things, like healing. If u wanna master healing turret u gonna have to spend time practicing or watch guide.
Just sounds like it’s not your cup of tea really, personally i find “6, 6 F1” very easy.
On topic though!
Engineer is my most favourite, incredibly versatile class, capable of doing just about anything, quite sturdy too, able to look very steampunky as well which goes with the feel of the class.
Ranger is my second, the only thing holding me back from this class is the god awful main hand sword. That animation lock NEEDS to go.
Least favourite is warrior, this was my first 80, and my main for a long time, but now that I’ve played other classes, i just can’t go back to the warrior, it just feels stale, simplistic and boring.
Favorite: Guardian
I found the guardian from both a lore and mechanic perspective to fit my style of roleplay as well as gameplay almost perfectly. Traditionally, I’ve always enjoyed Paladin type classes in MMO’s, and the guardian is the closest thing to that.
Least Favorite: Elementalist
I just don’t go for caster classes in MMO’s for the most part. EverQuest was probably the one exception to that, but in both GW1 and GW2, casters just never really fit my playstyle and I never really enjoyed them. I can tolerate playing a necro and mesmer here and there, but just didn’t like the ele whatsoever.
Most Disappointing: Warrior
Coming from 6 years as a warrior main in GW1 (and easily my favorite profession from GW1), I found the GW2 warrior to be drastically different and disappointing to play by comparison and could not get into it.
Ranger and Elementalist are my favorites. Thief is my least played class. I wouldn’t say I don’t like it, I would just say it’s my least favorite. That’s one thing they did really well that they don’t get enough credit for. They designed a game in which the classes are varied and have their own flavor. Most games I only like a class or two. This game, I like em all.
These days I just love my Engineer, so much wonderful collateral damage. Conditions, area mayhem, CC, and straight up damage, it’s got it all. Great fun “saving the fractal group” with elixir gun and healing turrets. Good Mobility and edge of your seat, one hit your dead, game play.
Least Favourite …. hmm have to say theif, though I never really gave it a good chance.
Fav: Necro. My first ever toon made in GW2 is still my go-to. I love her for PvE, WvW. Runner up now is ranger. So much fun to play in PvE; this is the one profession I’d like to try in PvP. Third in would be warrior. Just plain fun sometimes to faceroll everything in your path. Feel the powaaa of da warrioaaarr!!
Hate: Thief. I tried to play it but it’s just not my thing. Too squishy. Too … meh. Just not fun. My level 80 thief is my crafter though, so she’ll be around forever, looking good hanging out in LA.
