Zealot Gear price
Some stats are more popular than the others and its normal for them to get pricy.
Some exotics are crafted with hard to come by mats and it just pumps the price of the final product even more.
Also, there are base stats, and “newly added” stats. The newly added stats are often more popular and stronger in some way from the base stats in the game , that also makes the price of the gear even more pricy.
nothing wrong here

In this case it was because the stat combo was added in a Living World event and while the materials can still be obtained , its far slower than before. Basically a bunch of people want this gear and its very low supply and high demand.
Watchwork sprockets only come from two sources now, the mining node in the home instances for those who got it, and Watchwork Mining Picks.
I’m usually really sweet… but this an internet forum and you know how it has to be.

It worth noting … there aren’t alot of farming nodes in HoT. It’s also worth noting that Sprockets have been hovering around 3s plus/minus 25c for a LONG time now … so there isn’t some huge jump in price.

There aren’t that many people who want the gear either. Maybe a few more with raids around, but it was one of the least desired stat combinations prior to HoT and even then the prices of the Zealot’s gear were absurd. They’ve never NOT been absurd, even when they were first introduced. I should know, as I was one of the players who actually liked the stat combo on introduction, so I’ve always been watching the price of it.
The problem is entirely based on Sprocket drop rate and the sheer number of the things you need to create anything. Want a Rune that needs Sprockets? 100 a pop, 600 for a set. Sigils? 250 a piece, 500 for a set. Weapons and armor? 500 a pop. Full set of armor? A whopping 3000 sprockets. Jewelry? 600. Another 3000 for a full set of that (and not even available in Ascended for jewelry). Even when Sprockets were actually dropping from mobs during Living World, you were still looking at about 10+ gold per piece of gear. Sprockets even at that point weren’t the type of thing you could amass thousands of like nothing. 10g seems like a pittance compared to what they run now, but it was still 5x the price of any other stat combination at that point.
The only way Zealot’s ever becomes reasonable is if they reduce the costs or introduce an insane sprocket faucet. The costs were just poorly implemented right from the start, needing hundreds to thousands of the things just to craft a set of gear. Sadly, neither of those is likely to happen.
Zealot is the most zerk healing gear, so there are quite some people that want it, as healing and dps is both needed in raids.
I remember a huge spike in the zealot recipe prices, when it was announced that healing and tanking will become a thing in GW2. At least the recipe prices are down, thanks to the new karma vendors.
Yup, super pricey since you need 250 sprockets to make 1 and there is no practical way to farm them. Sucks since it’s the only healing power gear with two offensive stats to go with it.
Its wanted now, because suddenly healing gear is useful whereas it was considered a bad choice beforehand. But the price hasn’t moved.
Which only means, expect the price to go UP. Now is the time to get one of the home node for those sprockets and start mining it so you can sell them on the TP.
I kitted up my ranger for Druid healing, and just decided to ‘bite it’ and ate about 50-60 gold getting the mats for Zealot. On the positive side I’ve been behind in getting crafting up past 400, so this was a good boost to get my mind back on that.

Easiest way to farm sprockets is really to get the watchwork mining pick.
It costs 1k gems, but someone once did a calculation that the investment pays off quite quickly.

There is a third option now but it can’t really compete with the pick.
The lesson is to gather stuff you don’t currently need because one day you likely will.
I just made a full ascended set of Keeper’s armour. 3000 Watchwork Sprockets. Daily gathering of the home instance node meant I had double what I needed sitting in my bank. My decision for paying even more for an Ascended set was that at least I could transfer the set onto either of my other medium armour professions should the opportunity arise.
My point is ArenaNet have always been good at making redundant items suddenly worthwhile (not that Sprockets were completely redundant before), so it’s often worth your time to be gathering stuff through the course of play that you might ordinarily overlook.
