Zerg Farming: Needs to be stopped.
And that’s the thing Daywolf. People think farmers get orange items like candies. Personally in over 1000 boxes I’ve found 1 cobalt worth 18g and like 4-5 oranges worth 50s-1g. My friend got precursor with 0 mf ,no buff in pavilion while doing his daily. He made 450g profit in less than 1h. Is it fair?it’s RNG, so just because we farm a lot, it doesn’t mean we make crazy amounts since farming more than 2h is VERY frustrating and it doesn’t help when you have fanatics that are annoyed that farmers get more reward for the farming they’ve been doing for no reason.
Farmer not getting a precursor still ends up making waaaaaaay more money than a non-farmer not getting a precursor.
that actually only depends how persistent you are and how much you can handle grinding the same thing over and over. average on boxes is 10g per hour. That means 42h to gain that. I don’t know you but personally max I used to do when I forced myself was 2h per day. Sure, some people can do 10+ hours daily, but if they can resist that much, they deserve it.
10g/hr from boxes is way more than you’ll get doing anything else for 1 hour. Keep in mind I don’t want farming nerfed. Not at all. I think the system needs some fine tuning, ie champ loots for Events should be given upon event success, but I’m fine with champs dropping bags that can yield money of different sorts. (Mats, npc trash, ‘unique’ skins, etc). I just started to join the farming circuit in Frostgorge last week. In 8 days, I think I’ve spent a total of 2 hours doing it. I can’t bear more than 15-20 minutes at a time. I just don’t have the mentality to stick with it and I don’t have the time to put everything else aside.
What I’d like is for other areas to have increased rewards, so that players don’t feel encouraged to join the train. If they want to, by all means I say let them. But to really make any kind of money they sort of need to. Map completion? Junk. Hearts? Junk. Events? Junk. Jumping Puzzles? Junk. Exploration? Junk. Champ farms? Sweet jesus my character is rich.
5 hours farming > 1 hour of anything else? That makes sense to me. 1 hour of farming > 3 hours of anything else (excluding dungeons I guess)? I think that sucks.
This kind of content is rly anyoing and im a bit confused because it seems anet is switching back and forth. what direction is anet heading?
first they stoped ppl from farming by adding DR and by making events rly anoying…. than they switched and all new content is nothing else than zerg farming events. at the beginning it was ok. now its just a pain in the a…
rushing from 1 champ to another, rushing from 1 event to another.
there rly needs to change something, because u r forced to play zerg farming events for achievements and there r many ppl who hate this kind of content.
if i would have known this before the big loot change patch were released, i would have never said i welcome changes. farming cof path 1 was excellent compared to the situation atm.
ppl who like to play with small grps get punished hard. i like to play content for 5 or maybe 10 ppl. all this new stuff needs a big grp and its just nameplates, aoe effects and u try to tag as many mobs as possible.
so basicly the goal is tagging mobs hard. this should be fun? running around like an idiot to tag every mob?
im sick of this stupidity. do anyone at anet even play their new releases? i doubt thats the case….
Nah.
You will be assimilated.
I find it hypocritical for them to change and take away CoF farming (which I never did) and put this in instead.
When they announced ridding the spamming of COF, I had high hopes. All they did was take COF and put it on the main map. It’s like they just said “Don’t spam that dungeon, we don’t like it. Spam and zerg here on this map, instead”
Zerg farming beats an empty map.
Maybe, but zerging like this takes away from everything people use to do (like WvW) which makes all those aspects worse.
Zerg farming beats an empty map.
By emptying out every other map … including Cursed Shores which wasn’t even this empty during Southsun (mostly regarded as their worst Content ever).
Maybe, but zerging like this takes away from everything people use to do (like WvW) which makes all those aspects worse.
If it takes players away from those other “gameplay” aspects so readily, it is because those gameplay aspects are substandard.
Which to be honest, they are.
The problem with zerg farming is it nullifies Risk vs. Reward. If everyone and their 5 year old sister can make the best money in a game, it gets rid of anything being special.
Take a look at our so called “Legendaries”. If the top tier ways to make money wasnt set up so a 3 year old could do it legendaries would be, well…. actually Legendary.
hard enough to make them cry, not just rivers but oceans."
Less champ spawning more LT spawning. Make is so that it is punshing for players to be in one area zerging whether by making the event take unsually long, more damage or abilities.
don’t reward farming champions by spawning more champions.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
As far as downed vs. dead res, I don’t always see you downed in the mass of people or all the effects going off and then there are the AoE you may be in and I my shout heals are on cool down so I may not res you. Dead I don’t because it takes too long and since I WP and run back, I’m not asking you to do anything that I won’t do.
I don’t mind farming. I don’t do it for extended periods but I do like to not have to totally focus like I would in a dungeon, basically I can veg a bit.
This farming is also what you get from people complaining about the CoF farm. The ones that complained about the CoF farm and are upset by the zerg farm, this is what you get, you deserve this, you made this bed so you can sleep in it. It is all your fault for complaining. Maybe you should stop complaining already.
i like it.

Seeing 50 people walk over your downed body can get annoying, but I don’t expect anyone to revive me when it takes 5 seconds to waypoint and get back into the fight. Reviving someone puts you in a vulnerable position, I have died many times trying to revive someone.
Excellent point.
Last night I was doing some invasion content and at one point there were several people complaining about people not ressing them when the event was actually on a waypoint. A couple of them were literally within melee range of the waypoint, just lying there complaining about no one taking the time to get them back up.
Yeah, too bad when they are on the ground with their hand up trying to get back up, we cant just skip by and kick them in the face
And of course your comment applies to everyone posting here about the farming zergs that won’t revive anyone while regular events – people go out of their way to revive players even at the feet of the boss encounter. Obviously there must be a wp near by…
Remove mob loot entirely and put all the rewards at the end of the event chain. Then hand out rewards based on player performance. Make things like damage done and resurrections performed count towards the total score.
There you go, game fixed.
10g/hr from boxes is way more than you’ll get doing anything else for 1 hour.
No, it isn’t. 10g per hour is what one could make in Orr up through any patch, and you still could just by hitting every event (if you can get enough people) which is what most of us open world farmers did. And even during this, we’d get plenty of CoF p1 folks raging that they could make way more doing that, and go back to it.
I don’t know why all of a sudden 10 gold an hour is wayyy too much. Is it just that folks don’t think you should make that unless you spam dungeons?
That’s not even counting broker flipping, which is way more profitable.

Here again, I thought the definition of “fun” is different from one person to another.
I find it fun/enjoyable to farm with tons of people.
Unfortunately, my definition of “fun” is wrong based on OP’s definition of fun. kitten .I agree. It’s amazing how selfish and self centered people can be with the attitudes of ’you’re not playing the way I want you to play’, or ‘I don’t find this fun so you shouldn’t either’. I’ve heard many people say they are having fun zerging and running with all the people, just as I am. We’re not trying to dictate how you play, so try and show a bit of consideration. If someone feels that they HAVE to zerg farm, well, that’s their hang up.
TL;DR – Sorry, the world doesn’t revolve around you.
Yes, it’s utterly gross how many busybodies pollute this community. They remind me of grumpy old neighbors with no lives that call the cops for every little thing.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

I do temples a lot, entire chains, 90% of participants spawn when the last boss comes up… big sudden laggy zerg that can disconnect the players that worked the whole chain up to the boss. See, they sometimes come in one big zerg, their video and bandwidth have already stabilized with the amount of players on the move. Those that were there get a sudden surge of data, takes a moment to compensate, load times too etc… disconnects happen sometimes.
Sure, I’d be for adjusting it so that chances at best loot are based on how many of those event medals you gather in the course of the chain. In most cases we have enough to take the boss at the end from the near beginning, and then maybe people would help more to see the entirety of the chain succeed rather then the last minute just before the last boss is near down. Player requirements may then need to be adjusted down a little for like Melandru, you know, when you get transformed due to lower player numbers etc.
Not general mob loot though, just the final stage chest/s loot etc.

I hope you read the rest of my post. I’m not saying 10g/hr is way too much, or even too much. If its in balance with the rest of the game, let it be 10g, 1g, 20g, whatever. What I’m after is balance. I don’t think players should be told “If you want gold you have to do dungeons. If you want gold you have to farm Champions. If you want gold you have to spend all your time in Orr.”
So there have been 3 areas to focus on that rewarded well above everywhere else: Orr Events, Dungeons (not even all of them), and now Champions.
That’s not exactly encouraging people to “play how they want to play”, nor does it match with “the whole game is ‘endgame’”.
My point is to bring other things up in balance with Dungeons or Champions. Not that clearing Caledon Forest should equal 1 hour of Frostgorge Champs, but clearing Caledon Forest should equal way more than 3 Frostgorge Champs. Especially since its a once-per-character situation. Jumping Puzzles should reward more as well. Even the most difficult ones hardly even cover the waypoint cost to go there. You get the idea… players should have a variety of ways to make money so they aren’t funneled into specific activities.
You know I recently aquired the Chaos Gun from all the “junk” i’ve been flushing down the mystic toilet and made a cool 250g……
and I don’t care.
That would be something to celebrate like 1 month or further back ago. Now because of all the zerging prices on everything have shot up so much that my gold doesn’t even go as far. I mean if I had that much scratch back then, i’d be rolling in gems which is the only thing worth buying. Now that gems are at an all time high and climbing. 21g for 400, I wouldn’t have enough to buy 20 keys for chest.
Thanks everyone. Thanks for taking my own personal best fortune ever and turning it into the mother of clusterkittens.

To be fair, back then you wouldn’t have been able to sell it for 250g either.
But I agree on the gem prices, they’re brutal now.
And you are being called a Scrub, because you ask people in the map chat to get you out of the Downed State you are in. This happened to me.
I was downed by the Champion in a big croud of People that were spamming 1 and bled out over a duration of 30 seconds. Okay, maybe they didn’t notice, I should tell them through the map chat that I would be a great help to revive downed players.I never experienced this kind of Hostility before the Champion Loot Update, maybe because those people were locked in in CoF P1 or something, but this behavior is poison for the community. What are your thoughts and experiences?
Even though people’s reactions weren’t right, reviving isn’t really a good option in that situation. In my experience 9 out of 10 times you are able to rally yourself back up again after a few seconds, no need for someone else to spend his time ressing me. By killing stuff around you, you are helping downed people to rally back up. If you were downed for 30 seconds, why did you not bother tagging a low health monster to rally from?
Ressing people in a big fight is pretty dangerous anyway, with lots of AoE spread around, standing still for a few seconds isn’t really something you want to be doing when there’s 10 mobs around you. Another point is that if I was to res every downed player I came across in these events I wouldn’t have time to actually kill anything.
In the rare cases I did die because I couldn’t rally in time, or wasn’t ressed, I just quietly teleported to the nearest waypoint and spent 10 seconds running back to the event. It’s not a big deal, really.

Don’t forget the most offensive one today: “This is exactly how it’s meant to be, the devs said so, you kittening godkitten ed useless noob. Nobody wants the events, you’re lying, now stop it or i’ll kittening fly to your house and gut you, you kitten”.
^this being an exact quote from the 8pm EST invasion. If I bothered to report all the abuse going on in chat (from the zerg, which I was part of this time, towards normal people. I won’t be doing that again, because I refuse to be associated with such filth.) I’d achieve nothing at all for the rest of the night. It wasn’t one person, or two or three, there were dozens.
All of it aimed at what looked like an organised set of guild groups, doing the event as intended (groups of 5-10 people each, knocking out the events in minimal time. They were pretty much single-handedly responsible for success on the map, and got nothing but grief, because they were reducing the number of targets for the zerg.
If anything, it’s getting steadily worse.
