I don’t know how it is on other servers, but on SBI zerg trains are running in circles day and night farming the champs.

So I’m wandering around doing stuff for my dailies and head into the troll cave to do the grub event. I finish that and see the troll runestone has spawned. I start the event and nearby players help kill the troll. Then the zerg train comes in and starts calling me kitten names for inconveniencing them and that I should be telling them whenever I start a champ event. I tell them that they are inconveniencing me and whoever else is around the area for having to wait for them and they say that there’s more of them and that they are leveling up the fastest way so I should be listening to them. Now I don’t usually care about what other players do to level or farm gold until they started harassing me with whispers.

Just block them and report. I don’t understand the people who need to be the most efficient as possible leveling anyway. They cant waste a second of potential in game time. Yeah I was in queensdale farming champs to finish the monthly yesterday and I noticed this.

Zerging the champions is hardly the quickest way to level. I tested it and I made a ton more experience per hour doing map completion than from the champion events.

When I see them harassing other players, I intentionally spawn and kill the troll to troll them. I’ve also done the same with the bandit and oak.

Is this really the advice we want to give in our community?

The Zerg pointed out that he should give a “Hey Troll is up” in map chat before starting the event. That is just common curtsey You know people are looking to do events and it doesn’t inconvenience you at all to just type a short phrase so that people can come join in if they want.

There is no reason for foul language but it sounded like you were just being rude OP. Perhaps you didn’t know, or realize that people were actively farming the Champs but once someone told you a simple “Oh sorry guys I didn’t realize” would have been much better than the trolling tactics people are encouraging you to do in this thread.

Just realize that in any area there are people looking for events. Spending the 5 seconds to type what even you are starting… Perhaps 10 seconds to link a waypoint is just being kind to your fellow gamers.

It’s event xp and karma. Hearts and DE’s are just as quick. The “most efficient way to level” is not really true. It’s just simpler to do while being just as quick as going through the map doing hearts and DE’s.

Honestly, riding a WvW zerg train and capping stuff while rolling over opposing zergs tend to be faster from what I’ve noticed. But this depends on server and a willingness to do pvp.

Once you get to lvl 30, dungeon running is really the fastest assuming you can find a like minded group to do back to back runs and not have to “LFG” after each run.

The worst part of it is the horrible scaling means 80s still 1-shot everything making it difficult for low levels to get their tag in, especially if the lowbies are inexperienced.

IMO, 80s should do equal level damage or slightly less to correct level characters because with all their traits they’re still going to mow down everything before anyone else can get a hit in.

When you see the trolls runestone or the hunter ready for the boar, just call it out before you start it. That way everybody (well, most people) will be happy. If people want things in a particular order, well that’s just tough…this is a game where other people join in and do what they want when they want.

Have to say that the champions really do go down far too quickly though. They’re not scaling up properly for the number of people they’re facing. Even the cave troll goes down in two minutes. It really is getting a bit ridiculous now.

This just points to a bigger problem in “Level-Appropriate” content not being rewarding or commensurate with “Skill” & Coordination. While Queensdale is full of level 50+ people in all Rare Gear …. the Mid-level zones are EMPTY except for a few newbies in Green & Blue gear clearly and SADLY struggling with harder content intended for atleast a Duo…
( I know b/c I spend most of my time on my 80’s in those mid-tier areas. But I do stop to help them whenever I can).

Hopefully the Blog Changes Colin announced will CHANGE THIS by giving players a lot more Materials they really WANT so they can go back to focusing on their mains directly or atleast getting a better variety of Crafting mats to PL their alts back in town on the crafting tables “like the rich kids get to do”

If you start an event that many people want to do, simply announce that in map chat.

You don’t owe the zerg anything however, so just ignore the idiots. Last thing you should concern yourself is doing events on somebody else’s schedule.

In the best case, you can wait until more people arrive. Beyond that, don’t feel bad about “disrupting” zerg trains.

Sorry but I can understand the underlying problem with having high level zerg trains running in low level areas thereby disrupting any new/low level game experience.

As such I dont mind people trolling zergs at all (its not like they really suffer from it) and if they are on such a fixed timetable they cant take disruptions then I def. say get out of the lowbie areas.

I actually don’t mind the zerg running around Qeensdale – it would almost be nice to see it happening in all the other areas. On my server, we don’t have fights about it. Everyone calls out events as they start, if you miss one, chances are you’re at the other one anyway, so nobody’s missing out. I’ve only ever seen one person try to start up something over map chat, and they were quickly told that they were welcome to join in with the zerg, or go about their business in any way they pleased.

I go to other areas and see some people calling out events, but nobody goes to them or tries to help. Other times there’s just no map chat at all, and I barely see anyone. I’d like to see a bit more of this co-operation going on in Ascalon or Maguuma, for instance. I never feel obliged to follow what everyone else is doing, but I will occasionally run for the zerg if I feel like some group play, if I’m a bit underlevelled for an area or something like that.

It’s inexcusable for the zerg to expect people to always know that they’re running, and rude to just whisper people horrible messages because someone triggered an event chain out of their sequence. However, it’s just as rude to respond to them in the same, provoking manner. The zerg don’t own the map, and you don’t owe them anything, but remember you don’t own the map either and they don’t owe you anything either.

Trust me, I’m not a fan of the trolling suggestions, but by your logic don’t you think that the people in the zerg then should all be banned for speaking to the OP the way they did? They deliberately verbally abused the OP for “disrupting” their “lulz” and triggering an event chain out of sequence, which the OP didn’t deserve. I’m not saying the OP reacted in the best way, but I also think the zerg acted poorly initially. Retaliation isn’t always the best thing to do, but it’s human nature to respond to “insults”.

Both of you made “ethical” mistakes. You should have notified them of the event – it’s not required, but it’s the norm, and they should have not trash-talked you as well.

Well, lesson learned – though it’s kinda one sided since I doubt they are reading the forums. Remember that this is a MMO – your action affects others too.

Gosh, how often does the troll spawn? I cant even count the times that I see the “troll up” message when Im in queensdale. It’s not an event that you have to wait for 3 hours to come back. The zerg ppl could have just went on. What if there is some newby player running around in QD? Doesnt know anything jet. And then a zerg starts yelling at that person for starting an event. Because that is the problem here, they do it to new players as well. Instead of harrasing somebody. They could have just asked to call out nicely next time. The small amount of xp and karma from that event doesnt hurt them one bit.

TBH If I was a new player and something like that happend to me, I’d stop playing the game before even reaching lvl 20. We need to take care of our communities.

There is no law that says you must call out champions before starting. Zerg trains shouldn’t be happening anyway, it ruins the experience for new players.

Or maybe not. The key word for me is “if you qualify for loot rewards on that boss when it is killed”, makes me think they’ll do something like the bonus chests for open worls bosses, make them once per account (or once per character maybe), if that’s the case then it might make the zergs actually go to other zones for champion hunting once they’ve killed all in one zone so they can get better rewards.

To be fair, I haven’t played all THAT long, and when I started I didn’t know about map chat – what is was or that it didn’t show up automatically. I wouldn’t even have known that this is what was happening or that I should be calling out the fact that a champ was up (wouldn’t have known how to do it). I’m not saying this is the case with the OP, I’m just saying this to show that saying “this has been going on for a while now” isn’t a valid reason for saying the OP should have known better.

I agree, the OP should have just said, “sorry, I’ll call it out in future”, but again, it was a reaction to hostile comments. We don’t always react to hostility with kindness. That it might have escalated is a separate issue.

Like I said before, I don’t care if there’s a zerg. I certainly don’t mind calling out a champ, and I don’t mind them running over to join in. I won’t wait for them if I want to proc an event, and I don’t expect them to wait for me. But if someone is going to be a kitten about it then yeah, I care. It’s not right, and never will be right.

The zerg in question and the OP both reacted badly to the situation. But that doesn’t mean that the OP has no right to post about it here.

Queensdale is filled with Champs, so no need to call out every time on mapchat when one of those champies spawns, imho..

When I trigger a champ event, I only put on my commander, without mentioning anything in mapchat.. The attentive players will see that all of a sudden a dorito appeared at an event location and come by.. The zerg train will stare at their mapchat only, so they’ll miss it..

And when they noticed you have done an event without them, just start reporting their flames.. Works like a charm all the time!

Unless they have a friend standing there; who could have called it out in your stead. How would they know who started the event?

And if the troll actually died before they waypoint there, it means that there is a sizable group around. In which case, it does not matter if you called it or not because they wont get there in time.

Me? I will call it out but I will not wait. Soloing the Troll (and other Champions) is fun, if the troll dies before someone gets there, well the Troll always dies before everyone gets there anyways so too bad – try again in a few, the Troll spawns very fast.

If a zerk cannot reach their target fast enough everytime, they have only their awful zerking skill to blame =P

It’s one thing to play the game and do events, but intentionally disrupting dozens of players for the “lulz” should definitely be a bannable offense.

If a zerg is running around helping people run champion events for XP and rewards, there’s no issue with it at all, but as soon as someone starts being an kitten about it, then the rules change. People like you run around in a zerg and then scream at others for breaking your precious chain, not giving a care in the world for the fact that the person doing it might be new to the game and completely confused about what is going on.
Arenanet sure as hell isn’t going to do anything about the people verbally harassing others for some perceived slight, so it’s up to the players to do something about it.

The ones who should be banned are the idiots in the zerg that start hurling insults when someone does something that doesn’t fit their myopic view of how the game should be played.

Where are my gem sales? I want gem sales! Nerf EVERYTHING!

The OP isnt required to notify anyone of anything. It is not his fault that the zerg train was formed. Hes playing the game as he wants to. Sees an event and kicks it off. Theres no rulebook here.

Karma is as abundant as air, and as useless as the Kardashians.
