Is there any way to tell what zones are completed without actually mapping to those zones?

No you can’t tell which map has already been explored at 100%. You have to take note of that yourself, draw a map or write the name of the completed map somewhere.

i doubt it, hence I drew my zone maps(just as squares with names in) and crossed each out when complete

I always 100%‘d a map before moving to the next one. That way, I never had trouble remembering which wasn’t completed, since they were all completed, other than those I didn’t explore at all.

All maps have two forms of 100% completion, the one you see in game and your explorer tab on hero window.

Getting every POI, WP, SP, VISTA, and Heart only goes towards your been there done that title and your huge world map completion star in log in. Areas that say so-and-so area discovered when you run through them, are the explorer title track for each region of Tyria. All regions (exceopt orr) have 175 areas to uncover. This may include normal map completion or not.
