Gambling is gambling man sometimes you win but usually you lose
Spend your time and resources making progress to a recipe instead of just throwing things into the forge. :|

You can’t sue a casino for taking your money. If you bet all your chips on one number and it doesn’t come up, that’s your fault, not the games.
Why didn’t you spend the time/money crafting, buying on TP or using known recipes rather than gambling?
No, it isn’t random. Putting random weapons in and getting a random weapon out, yes, it is random because that is a single function. Creating legendary and mystic weapons though, is not random. Its a goal to work towards with multiple different items to collect. You just need to know the recipe, know the items required and train up in the crafting professions.
I tried the mystic forge 4 times. Didn’t know much about it. I got one goodies item and the other 12 pieces I threw in gave me rubbish, where I would have been better off vendor trashinging them.
Conclusion: mystic forge is a waste so I don’t use it.
I’m sure if you google recipe lists it may be good, I don’t know and there is no in game way of me knowing so mystic forge may be awesome but I’ll never know because as it stands to me it just goggles up cash I could have made at a vendor.
That, sadly, is bad implementation. ANet have turned me off it by not going me a clue. Even a basic recipe list like the start of crafting may have suggested the idea to me, but it says put in 4 and get 1 back. I did and they were kitten.
The Mystic Forge is mostly a big gambling game if you just dump random stuff in it. Sometimes, it works in your favor; and sometimes, it doesn’t. I do know that at one point, I bought 4 rares for a total of 80 silver. The Mystic Forge spit out an Exotic which I sold for about 2g50s— PROFIT! If you’re into gambling and testing your luck, then I suppose you might find some fun in it. For the rest of us, I would say just vendor or dump it in the Trading Post. If it’s a 70+ rare item, salvage it and hope for Ectos. At least the acquisition rate for Ectos is a bit more reasonable than hoping for four Rares to proc an Exotic out of the Forge.

Can a person sell or trade their mystic coins?
Yes you can. You can put those Mystic Coins on the Trading Post.

Thank You. I hade no clue.
For all of you guys saying mystic forge sucks because there is no recipe, you really need to read a bit more.
There is the usual gamble like put four item good or kitten and u get a RANDOM item.
However there is also the recipe one which needs a lot of mats. Those need a set define amount of mats to be put in the forge and u get THE item you are making.

Getting the base weapon for legendaries=random (unless someone discovered the recepie and didn’t tell about it)….throw 4 weapons in forge and hope. Or you can get it from some chests=random.
Getting mystic clovers=random (and if you really need 250 of them and I’m usually very unlucky with RNG in games…)
So there are at least 2 parts of legendary that are random (by what is publicly known so far).
I’d rather not write what I think about RNG items (clovers), that cost kittenloads even when you calculate with 100% success rate or I’ll get banned :P
