account wide way point and map reveal
This will never happen. You get reward per toon for map completion and to many would have a problem with it changing now. There are several threads through the past years that have same/similar ideas. Don’t mind the dead horse images, though it wont be as kittenuggesting mounts.
How about instead of any account wide map unlocks, if one has removed the smudges on the map, those become grayed out but detailed for all your alts. Thus making map comp so much easier. Everyone would still have to do map comp on each new character, BUT they wouldn’t be doing it blind anymore.

I’ve thought that too, as it’s always so hard to work out which areas of the map are smudged due to not being discovered or smudged due to ..art?
But then again.. I really enjoy that feeling when you enter an undiscovered area and it reveals. So, I don’t know. Undecided.
Or maybe… keep the areas smudged but on the alts show the locations of all the poi/vista/hps so at least you know where you need to go and still retain that joy of discovery?

Well, basically, it’d be like a 100% cleared map with nothing discovered and gray-scale, only it’d color in the areas as you ‘discovered’ them. I’unno, I thought it’d be a pretty swell reward for getting map comp on one character.

Ah! So no smudging but gray-scale undiscovered and color discovered! I like!! Good one!

Or… have screenies of all the maps with route detailed out open on your 2nd monitor and run thru the maps in a wiz!! lol

Second monitor?! EXPLOIT!!!!!
I like the fog of war removal idea, its most beneficial without creating any problems.

While I already do that, I like having other things up on my monitor while I play GW2. IfYouKnowWhatIMean.
I can go with the fog of war idea easily enough, you still get a partial view of places you’ve been on the account.
As for the way points, do you really think people would get upset beyond “well back in my day we had to walk 20 miles up hill in the snow both ways to get to the way point”?

I am finding trying to uncover the same maps over and over on my alts tedious, and this would solve that issue while still letting me indulge in my alt addiction.

Yes, we would see as many gripes on this forum as we do give us mounts.
I would rather they not change the current system. I have world map completion on 7 of 8 characters on one account, and 3 of 4 on another. Just uncovering map space and unlocking the POI’s, WP’s, Vista’s and HP’s in Tyria is the fastest way to level a character besides PvP (which I don’t do) and tomes (which I rarely have).
The key is to never stop moving, and go back for the hearts later. It takes me 17 to 23 minutes per level all the way to 80, and faster if I take them to Dry Top /Silverwastes/Maguuma around level 72.
I get that it may be annoying for some people, but I watch movies on a second monitor while doing it to make it bearable.
If they changed anything at this point, I would rather it be adding race changes to the gem store. All the achievements are account bound anyway, so almost no need for this last holdout. They could reset the story line so you have to do it again, whatever.

There never will be race changes. This one has been completely shut down by development team.
I’d just like the whole map to be faux revealed in grayscale so I can stop getting lost in Lornar’s on my sub 100% characters. Is that too much to ask?
If people believe account unlocked way points are a bit to much, maybe make it where you can’t teleport to the area unless you are at or above the minimum level for the area, that could deter people from instantly jumping in to things like dragons stand and simply leeching from the event.
No thanks. One of my most fun experiences in GW2 was when me and two good friends took a trio of lvl 20 Asura south from Hoelbrak all the way down to Fort Trinity in the Straits of Devastation. We had intended to get to the Gates of Arah, but the risen proved too much for us .
Level-locking waypoints would put an end to outings like that, since every wipe (and there were several … even in the Dredgehaunt Cliffs, if a mob as much as sneezed at us it would one-hit kill is due to level difference ) would mean we’d have to start from the very beginning instead of going back to the last waypoint we passed.
Besides, I once tested how long unlocking waypoints really takes, and unlocking ALL core Tyria waypoints (without the help of guild portals or teleport to friend) took me a little less than 10 hours total on a new ranger running all areas on or below level. Opening all major waypoints on a lvl 80 is considerably faster to the point where account-locking them really is just a minor advantage (but a major inconvenience to things like experience gain through exploration and feeling of world size).
Precursors can still be made in the MF and require the Gift of Mastery to make into a legendary weapon. Map completion is a required part of obtaining the Gift of Mastery.
Any change to map reveal would have to include this in it’s calculation/creation.
In the first 11 pages of the Gemstore Suggestions thread (all those 11 from 2 years ago, it really is taking time to work through that sucker), by my count so far these are the requests (end number is number of different posting people asking for it):
Waypoint Stone – permanent (port only allowed when wp uncontested) – 1
Waypoint Unlock – for one alt, 200 gems, full wp unlock or at least one wp/map – 2
Waypoint Unlock – account wide for all alts – 1
Waypoint Unlock – buy it and use that wp for free thereafter (eg personal Asura gate to attach to the desired wp) – 2
I am sure I will find more to add to the tally as I slowly go along. Eventually I’ll get to the current posts, at which point perhaps you will have added your voice there
(No, no one asked me to do this, it may not even be needed, but it’s a nice little project when I have spare time to spend).
I vote for taking waypoints out of the map exploration equation and just leaving it to POIs and vistas.
