I know you can hide hats on costumes if you turn off the hat option in your equipment screen. Does that not work for shoulders? Or for gloves for that matter?
I agree! There are certain outfits I like but the shoulders get in the way. Although I love the phoenix motif of the Imperial Outfit, the decorative part on it really likes to clip through my character’s hair and heads at times, which is distracting. Also, some races/genders’ shoulders on some outfits look awful compared to others.

I would buy a number of the costumes if I could only hide the hideous shoulder portions.

Especially the new one has way to large shoulders which i dont want to see.

The outsized shoulders are a reason not to buy or not to use. If they had a way to toggle off the shoulders I could use them on more chars.
We’ve been asking for this since forever and still no change… But yeah, I agree (again).
It seems to be a running bit of stupidity in more games than just this one.

And yet, it still happens. Please, ANet, take a stand and stop it. Or at least let us turn them off. Yes, I know it will make Outfits a bit more complex to make, but will it really be that much harder?
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
I don’t understand why they keep ignoring this problem. Lots of people hate the shoulder armor on outfits and won’t buy outfits because of it. ArenaNet is throwing money away.

Exactly. :c
There are outfits I would have purchased if it weren’t for the ridiculous shoulders. The option to toggle outfit shoulders off would go a long way towards making me consider purchasing them. But if ANet doesn’t want my money…

I really can’t comprehend why they didn’t create the outfits with this functionality to begin with. Equipment slots can be hidden for the helments, shoulders, and gloves; so why was that not made available for outfits too!??!
I think some of the outfits would look amazing if I could just hide shoulders. Really hoping Anet takes notice…

Agreed a million times.
Hiding any part of the Mursaat outfit is blasphemy. You do not deserve the outfit!

I’d rather blaspheme the Mursaat than commit heresy in the eyes of the Fashion Lords!!
And you can now hide shoulders and gloves!! Woohoo!

Lies. I just tried it on my Shadow Assassin outfit and nothing happened.

You mean some Outfits can turn off shoulder parts for real? O.o Which ones? Screenshots, please!
Basically just the Cook’s Outfit can iirc. It was a town clothes item before it got Outfittified. So it can hide gloves and shoulders. I’m not sure but I think Pirate Outfit (also once town clothes) can as well, it just doesn’t have shoulders to start with.
Outfits could definitely use more options;
- Hide/show for head, shoulders, maybe feet pieces
- color channels per piece, like with normal armor
- all that saved per outfit, not globally (yep, pet project, stone me)
ANet, outfits are a mainstay of your sales, I presume? Why not make them more attractive with some technically unambitious features? ^.^
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
Or just start designing better shoulders :\

Ha ha. How about both? Better looking shoulders and the option to turn them off. There is nothing wrong with choices, though Anet seem to have an aversion to them.
I agree with a poster above- if we can turn off helm, shoulders, and gloves for our gear, why not our outfits? Shoes, too, while we’re at it, would be great. My Sylvari loves running barefoot!

Along with Chef and Pirate, there’s a few other outfits that you can hide gloves on: the Fancy Winter Outfit, the Mad King Outfit (but it looks kinda ridiculous), Executioner Outfit, Witch Outfit, and Hex Outfit. AFAIK shoulders aren’t hideable on any outfit, but I’ve only got sylvari chars so I’ll take your word that it works on Chef for other races.

I think the problem here is that so much rests in the eye of the beholder.
If we had the option to hide a few more pieces (shoulders/gloves) then each costume could potentially appeal to a wider range of players.

With the addition of Taimi’s outfit, I can’t help but feel I want this function even more. Please hear us ANet

ArenaNet don’t let our dreams be dreams.
I think the reason they don’t have the hide shoulders options is that the outfit is a continuous mesh/texture without anything underneath the shoulder portion. I could be wrong and they may have multiple layers

Wrong. There are outfits and there are armor sets. The armor sets have separate pieces, the outfits don’t.

You can hide the head armor so no reason to not be able to hide the shoulder armor.

If they designed the outfits as single meshes with not under layers then no, the reason you can hide helm is there is no under layer for the helmet to begin with…..

Time for a redesign then…

Well plenty of the outfits have an under layer, so for now how about simply hiding the massive object floating over my shoulder?
