any tips for guardian?
I’d suggest checking the stickies in the Guardian sub-forum:
Do you even lift, bro?
What makes the guardian so great, is that it can fill just about any playstyle…(except a ranged playstyle). The G has so many options and tools at it’s behest to really make combat fluid and fun throughout the leveling process. As far as suggestions….don’t listen to anyone tell you what is good and what isn’t, and play how you want to play. Pick weapons/skills YOU think are interesting and fun

A very good post to read is that one, it gives a lot of tips and hints, you can need as a beginner:

Hopefully you’ll enjoy the guardian and gw2!
Throw away mostly all you knew, and prepare to embrace a quasi-new gaming experience. As long as you don’t expect a WoW clone, and you enjoy yourself in this rich universe, choosing to play whichever way you want, you’ll be more than happy.
I have to add that though most people seem to think of them as “pallys”, Guardian is its own profession, with its own lore and function in the game, so don’t expect it to be like a WoW (or any other game’s) Paladin. He/she is still a heavily armored fighter, but has much lower Hit Points than usual for the usual “Soldier” professions, and though it can do high damage, it really shines with its defensive and supportive capabilities. It’s a different kind of warrior, akin to a battle priest/cleric, IME and HO.
Have fun!
For me, a turning point with my guardian was when I started using my virtues and utilities very actively.
15 trait points into “Radiance,” and you can apply Virtue of Justice to burn and blind every foe (except this trait like a bunch of others doesn’t always work to renew the cooldown). You get to where your favorite position is to be surrounded by normal mobs.
In terms of play, keep moving, dodge-roll or blind or block if there’s a big attack coming.
Have Fun!™
thanks guys these are all helpful
The Guardian was my most recent character leveled to 80 and I loved it all the way. I ended up going with a Greatsword/Staff power-crit build for leveling. I used all weapon combos and the staff is pretty underwhelming, but the swiftness skill was just too handy for getting around the map through the leveling process. And the Greatsword skills are really all you need unless you need to drop to ranged for a bit if you are getting too much attention. With the Guardian your health will drop in a tough fight then 10 seconds later you’ll find yourself near full health again. Plus, you are a boon factory for the allies you are playing with. It’s just a great leveling profession as well as a great one to play at 80. Good choice, though they are all fun.
