anyone agree?
I don’t farm anything, and I’m well on my way to a legendary. The difference is, I expect it to take a long time, so I just enjoy what I enjoy.
Sometimes I run with guildies and do fractals or dungeons. Sometimes I get an onyx core, which I need for my legendary, or better yet, an onyx lodestone. It’ll take me months to get all the onyx lodestones I need. So?
I’m also making money. No matter what zone I’m in, I’m making money. I don’t make it as fast as a farmer, but then, I’m out having fun, doing what I want. The only thing I don’t really do regularly is SPvP, because then I’m not making anything I can use. But everything else in the game is fair.
Playing high level characters, you get pretty good rewards out in the world. Again, not as much as farming, but more fun for me.
So someone who farms and feels they need that legendary next month, they’ll be bored for a month. I’ll play with guildies, do whatever I want, and eventually get my legendary in 3-4 months from now. Why should I care?
If you want to enjoy the game, find something you want to do and enjoy it. I find it particularly fun to play with like minded players and have a laugh, rather than farm Orr. But even farming Orr in a guild group is faster and more fun than just doing it alone.
I know what you mean. There is alot of “fun things” to do in the game though. In the end though, there is only so much. I have literally done every single dynamic/group event in the game multiple times. They are probably what I enjoyed most about the game. But you can only do them so many times before they get to be the “same ol same ol”.
There are a few things in the game I still want to do. Ive done most of the JPs, but there are a couple I haven’t been able to find. But these don’t really provide me with the “time sinks” that dynamic events were able to do for so long.
Generally no, but I only read your title.
Then I read some of your post – still no, you set yourself a goal which is designed to either facilitate madness in action, or drive you to it in an effort to get you to pay in RMT.
Update your goals – perhaps waiting for ANet to get some more content on the ground if you feel that is the issue, and realise you’ve set yourself up for hardship and now cannot cope.
Thanks for your thoughts and POV.
It may just be that your original statement was wrong.
Please try again.
My goal for this game is to have all professions at level 80. So far 2 down and 6 more to go. Trying all professions is really fun and it makes the game not boring. I got a legendary already, it’s nothing but a pretty thing. Play other professsions will make you see what a unique game this is.
I applaud the OP for deciding not to do something he doesn’t want to. I also do what I want, when I want. This means when I do play, I enjoy it. Sometimes that means farming, which is something I enjoy in moderate doses.
It’s too bad the karma reward system is under-utilized. The game throws karma at people all the time, for practically everything they do. I thought going in that karma was going to play a bigger role in getting, as the OP calls them, cool things. That said, I think more cool things will be added to the game going forward. Fortunately for me, I plan to be around for the long haul, taking my time.

Well you do need a boatload of karma for legendaries.

True… however those who are not going for legendaries are likely to end up with a boatload of Karma if there’s nothing to spend it on. I see they’ve added back pieces and some exotic trinkets to temple vendors, so there’s hope for more stuff down the pipe.

I’m sure they’ll add more. There’s also the new boxes, which is a way to taking karma from a character to has it and inefficiently move it to an alt, if you need karma on an alt, while still having a chance at a minipet or lodestone.
It’s a gambling thing, sure, but it’s something to do with karma.
So you’re not having “fun”. Odd that…
I was just out running around in the cursed shores and was doing what I was doing last night, spamming events for the heavy bags, potential rare items, exotics, and potentially anything else thats a cool find. And I realize i am farming events…I also do a lot of farming for different types of the high level cores…. and I think, its really not that much fun doing the same thing over and over and over and over again cause its the easiest way to gather something so you can create something fun. It seems that is what these games are based on though, if you want really anything worth anything you must farm for it.
so back to what I was saying, I was doing this mindless farming of the same ol, same ol, and I was like “this is brainless …” “I consider this entertaining and fun?” and it just got me to thinking, what if they made this so you didn’t have to farm items to have cool stuff? I’m done farming btw, not a way to enjoy a video game after working hard in real life all day.
Nobody is forcing you to farm items.
Legendaries don’t offer any required bonus, they’re just cosmetic items meant to take several months to get.
You play the game for fun and accumulate for long-term goals, not farm for goals and not have fun.
Don’t play with a traditional MMO mechanics like “I farm X so I get Y that allows me to unlock Z”.
Z is already unlocked in GW2. If you decide to farm you’re doing a disservice to yourself.
It’s not fun doing the same thing over and over again? It is if that thing is fun. Otherwise, everything would be like that.
basketball, hockey, rock climbing, hiking, running, working out, seeing movies, going out to dinner with friends, etc.
Just enjoy it and have fun. It’s good to have a goal, which gives you a reason to log in, but don’t make it such a high priority that you stress about it.

This is what Arenanet referred to as a grind..something repetitive that is not fun. And this is something they said will not exist in their game. And they say they play their own game..

They didn’t say it doesn’t exist, they said you don’t have to. And well – you don’t have to. At 100% world completion, you’ll have enough karma and gold for full exotic equipment. Or do WvW for a while, that’s even faster. And even exotics aren’t “needed” to do dungeons or WvW. Just because you personally think you have to grind , nobody forces you to do so. Unlike WoW for example where you couldn’t compete in any form of PvE or PvP wihtout the very best equipment.
