Around the time the game first came out, if you announced a defense/escort/gathering mission in map chat, you’d get 20 people flocking toward it, and some of them got really hectic/fun with that many people participating.

Now, hardly anyone comes when you ping an event, and those running by usually just ignore the event altogether.

I dunno, I just kind of miss that experience of randomly running into groups of people working together. I don’t really see it outside of world bosses/champ trains anymore.

Is just that the excitement for new content and new different MMO experiences, which is what Gw2 offered in launch, have gone away, thats all

Events that don’t include champion mobs are rather pointless unless you need the XP.

Which is a real shame, I’m hoping Anet will expand the dynamic events and make them worthwhile for max level characters as well, in all zones.

Most fun I’ve had in this game was doing those events with huge number of players when first leveling up.

I think it depends a lot on what server you’re on. I’m on Desolation and I still see this a lot, along with people asking in map chat for any events which are running.

If I see certain events I know are popular, a champion or one of the guild bounty targets I’ll often announce it even if I’m not going to do it, just in case someone’s interested, and most of the time I get a “thanks” from someone I didn’t even know was there.

Right? I remember doing a defense mission at a fort/castle in Metrica Province with what must have been twenty people. It was great. Nothing like that ever really happens anymore.

I’m running around Timberline Falls on JQ right now…The map is nothing but orange because of all of the events. No one bothers with them anymore, and it isn’t much fun soloing them….I put out a call on map chat and got zilch…Lol…

DE were pushed and promoted pretty hard prior to release, but it seems as if both ANET and the players have abandoned them. Sucks, too, since they were what drew me to the game in the first place.

people only care for big events now that get them a lot of loot… the problem with the smaller events is that the seem so insignificant. you help a guy protect a fortress from skritt once, you come back 10 minutes later to find the place overrun anyway. Unless you need the XP, there is little satisfaction to get from that.

Any plan that involves dead quaggans is, by design, foolproof. I’m an unmitigated genius!

There are some smaller events that branch out to bigger ones, the one in Harathi for example, which eventually leads to a boss fight.

One solution could be if the pre-events for boss fights were made more complex, to require more effort. As it is now, 50 people wait around the boss spawn while just a few run the pre-events, partly because people are lazy, but mostly because they are easier and quicker to do with fewer players.

The whole thing feels backwards as it is now.

It is a fairly tight line they can walk for this. Shatterer pre is absolutely better with 3 than with 10 or 30 or whatever. Claw of Jormag pre is much better to kill the crystals with 30 than with 3. People will still do shatterer over claw every time.

Reward Intrinsic Value VS Time Spent

If ANet can’t make this ratio high, the attendance will always be poor, no matter how many different colors you paint the event.

nods understandingly at OP

Yup, I remember what you’re talking about. I’m on Anvil Rock myself and sometimes I run across some people doing events out in some of the maps, but usually its just my husband and myself. Which isn’t always bad, I suppose, since we can easily jump from event to event to speed the leveling some. Still, it is nice to do some of them with more people.

Occasionally, we’ll grab 2 or 3 other guild members, find a map that is all orange with events, and see how quickly we can clear them. Makes for some interesting fun.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.
