anyone else not get the security email yet?
None of my alt accounts have received any emails about it.
ANet may give it to you.
Actual e-mail or in-game e-mail?

Actual e-mail or in-game e-mail?
Heckifiknow how we get a notice but, nothing at login, nothing by outside email, nothing by ingame email.
ANet may give it to you.
I said in the other thread, but I’ll post it here too. Go to My Account —> Security and choose 2-step verification there. You’ll get the mini that way, no need to wait for an email or prompt.

Yah. I know. I’m not actually that concerned about my alt accounts and whether or not they get the mini. My main account, I did that day.

Thanks! The initial post said nothing about the option in ‘my account’ …. just that it would say something when we logged in.
I’ve not gotten it yet, and I don’t have a smartphone (or cell phone of any kind, actually). When I go through the security options, I’m unsure if a standard land line will do for the voice call option there or not. So, I wait.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
Okay, I’m confused here. Are we waiting to be invited to use 2-tier authorization rather than just do it? I pretty much read their announcement as “here, please do it, we have an exclusive mini …”.

I thought we were to wait for the invite/prompt/nag if we wanted SMS (whereas the authenticator was available the day of the announcement) but based on this thread I went ahead and proactively got it.

From what I understood, you have to wait to get the voice phone call version. But that wait should be up tomorrow, right?

It’s over now, Palador. I signed up for the SMS but accidentally put in my home number. It instantly called me and started reciting the code. There was a “not the right number” option so I was able to swap it to my cell phone and again, the text was instant. But it did give me a voice call even though I had “Text Message” selected since my land line is not an SMS device.
Wasn’t the wait for international players? Sorry if you are international, it’s not like we get little flags next to our names. In which case I understand now. Still you can use a Windows or smart phone/tablet authenticator now and switch to SMS when it’s locally offered.
RIP City of Heroes
I’m east coast US, here. I didn’t catch any international nuance to the wait period but I’m not sure I read the blog with scrupulous attention to detail.
So I can’t say that non-US folks can sign up for SMS without the invite, but east coast US people sure can this very moment.
Be glad. I got pestered multiple times at login already, but ANet apparently confuses “No means no!” with “No means ‘later’”. I hope they will add a “NO and don’t ask me again, EVER!” button to the launcher one day. There is no way I will ever give them my phone number.

Maybe get the email one where it emails you to get your permission to accept a login request if the request is coming from an unknown IP. That’s what I have on my alt accounts. Or get the Google app one.
Maybe that’s why I haven’t been requested to get the SMS, since I already have the email ones set up.

I have the e-mail one set up. Which is why I really don’t want to be bugged with the 2-factor one. :S
The international thing was a question asked in the original thread on the subject.
Here is the salient quotes from the original announcement.
Introducing SMS
There is a better way. You’re probably already used to it from other sites like Google and Yahoo!
Starting in the next couple weeks, we’re going to ask you to associate a phone number with your account. Don’t worry, we won’t spam you; we’ll use your phone number solely for the purpose of keeping your account secure.
Once you associate a phone number with your account, if someone tries to log in to your account from a new location, we’ll send an SMS to your cell phone or call your landline to verify that it’s you. And if you ever forget your password or lose access to your account, you’ll be able to ask us to send an SMS to your cell phone or call your landline to provide a code that you can use to reset your password. With one system, we can substantially improve both account security and account recovery.
SMS versus Authenticators
Some of you have already secured your accounts using traditional two-factor authentication, connecting an app like Google Authenticator to your account. In that case, you can keep using two-factor authentication and we won’t ask for your phone number.
And we are back to the definition of “a couple” which I’ve always thought of as synonymous with “a few” rather than two.
Also it seems that if you already use an authenticator then you won’t get an e-mail whenever it starts.

You realize that the e-mail one is also considered a 2-factor authentication, just not as secure as using SMS, because if your e-mail gets hacked also…there goes your protection.
