Q:

Was this Anets intention design wise? Im leveling a warrior atm and unless warrior equipment is much cheaper than any other class, than its way cheaper to just buy an entire new piece of armor than it is to repair it. Why are repair prices so high? is this a sign of a healthy economy?

Yeah wait till you either get good gear or lvl up.

Im only level 60 something(i think 63) and just crafted a set of lvl 60 required armor(my armorsmith crafting is high enough lvl) and if i sold it on the trading post i would probably get 1-2 gold for the set, and it only cost me 9-11 silver to repair.

Its only cheaper to go new if you are under level 30, and at that low level you are probably finding new better stuff so fast you arnt repairing much anyways.

When leveling, I almost never repair armor, as I die infrequently and replace armor every few levels anyway. I only bother with repair when I have armor I intend to keep for the long haul.

The reason low level armor is so cheap is because hardly anyone buys them. You can simply wear what you find as drops and still fair well. Even if you don’t, not repairing your armor doesn’t really pose too much problems either.

Repairs are expensive for the same reason waypoint costs are high. They save time. It is easier and faster to find and use a repair station than find a trading post and swap out the armor.

Also, some people skin their low-level gear and re-skin it as they go. For that , it is cheaper to repair than to buy a new piece and re-transmute it.

This is pretty much the case for every MMO I’ve ever played. When leveling, you always outlevel your gear before it breaks, and if you aren’t, then you have bigger things to worry about than the cost of repairing.

Yes i agree repairing armour is expensive in GW2. All other games i played the repairs were free, or you learned how to repair yourself, or you bought an inexpensive repair kit.

The fee is especially hard on young players who may die more often while learning the game. Or while learning dungeons, i died so often…i don’t play the dungeons in gw2 anymore .

No I don’t repair enough for it to matter and my gear is always the best- even on my alts that are between 47 and 58.
I keep it updated/runes/sigils and transmuted, so whatever I spend once in a blue moon to repair is nothing.

Incidentally I can never have too many trans-stones ;P

It’s probably because the armor you’re trying to repair is of common rarity or something like this.

I think repair should be scalable with rarity so something weird like this doesn’t happen, but it’s how it is…

If you had a rare armor, with runes for example, it’d be much cheaper to repair than replace, that’s for sure.

Cheap armor is easy to replace. Good armor costs a bit more money and effort though. When levelling it’s usually not efficient to look for a good armor, because you’re going to change it soon anyway – and by the time you have accumulated enough damage to warrant repair, you have already likely outlevelled that armor and are ready to change it for a new one anyway.
This is completely normal.

How are you dying with a warrior? I’ll admit that I died quite a bit early on when leveling my glass cannon thief… but even then I could probably count the number of deaths on two hands… warrior though… I feel like I died maybe twice from 1-80… and both those were from destroyers because I don’t know why they do so much damage…

Although I think you’re right… armor repair is too expensive… it’s silly that its cheaper to replace it than repair it, until you start getting exotics really…

I don’t know but repair costs are ridiculous. Every single time I die, I have to repair. I wear medium armor. I make a bad decision and go afk to get a cup of coffee in a bad place and die, repair. Dungeons, repair. Attempt stuff to see if I can solo, repair. Distracted and not paying attention and die, repair.

Don’t get me started on the WP costs. I have no incentive to pop around the world and help guildies when the WP cost is so high. Heaven forbid I WP and die.

I do travel all over but I tend to only stay in connecting zones because of the WP cost.

If the intention is the only way to make coin is to sell gems, it’s working, because that is all I know of to have more than a few silver on me. I’m trying to figure it out, and all the MMO’s I’ve ever played, I’ve eventually figured out what the market needs and how to make coin. In GW2, haven’t found it yet.
