back after a break, Improvments n community
5 years from now, I hope I have bought all the expansions, have my own credit card so I can buy gems, probably get a new legendary and new classes, etc :p All mmo communities have toxic players. But my guildies and friends IG are what make me stay
I think that people who are content rarely feel the need to post anywhere about their contentment. By contrast, people who are disgruntled do often feel the need to be heard.
Take this very thread as an example. Your post is in itself not a message of contentment with Guild Wars 2 (although you mention it in passing). The reason you are posting is more because you have a question you would like answered, than because you want to share your (positive) attitude towards the game with the world.
hmmm, very true Jornoph…. it did take on a less positive outlook towards the end.
I still feel that it still is positive, meaning if a new player reads it i hope he gets the message take what everyone says including me with a gran of salt.
but i also wanted peoples opinions not just on gw2 there has been some killer mmo’s that seems to be brilliant that just didn’t last and my personal view is they where not given the time.
expecting a mmo to come out ready is impossible, there should be enough content to keep the players happy but still. i will always remember what a blizzard employee said forget his name, we never set out too make World of Warcraft in a day it takes years… no i hate comparing but i feel no game is given the time anymore, that was said in 2008 4 years after release, its seems mmo’s are given months now not just by its community but the press too.
( my post does sound like gw is dieing when in fact i think its strong as hell)
I’m the white knight here, the guy who defends Anet’s decisions, at least the ones I agree with.
Part of the problem is, people expect much from an MMO, and no MMO has really delivered it, but people expect the next one to.
This MMO forum is not different from any other MMO forums I’ve been on. They call complain about the same stuff….balance, no end game content, stuff is too easy to hard, not enough hard core content, etc.
That’s because it’s all true. The game isn’t balanced, there’s not enough content, there content is too easy or hard, depending on who you are.
But it’s the same in every game. Frankly I think people’s expectations are to blame…because if it were so easy, someone would have nailed it by now…but no one has.
good points Vayne, i plan too stay here and for better or worse stick it out as a figure of speech, i love the game enough i don’t care if 100 or 1000000 people play it just as long as i am in a guild with friends.
i remember reading most companies when they decide to make a mmo that it’s make or break.
And thats the problem, some companies believe there the one, and make a mmo so big its too big for budget and are unable to polikitten to any real degree and are stuck with a release that is not great, but big mmo’s right off the bat is what the community wants. a 10 hour shooter can take 10 to 20 million to make imagine the cost of a mmo, the years longer it takes to make hundreds of hours of content they don’t stand a chance really. we want a fresh wow not wow 2004 but wow 2010 just to make my point about how long it takes wow took 4 years to make and came out 2004 another 6 years to get to the mmo everyone wants, that’s 10 years, 10!

I had a relatively long response originally, but it got ‘eaten’ when I hit post replay. -scowl-
So, I’ll simply say welcome back and I’m glad you opted to give it another shot. In the end, only the person interested can decide whether or not the game is something they like, or don’t like, and they should make that decision without other’s opinions trying to color their view.
There’s a vocal minorit of crazies on every MMO’s forum’s who can’t stand that not all ?MMOs are 103% identical.
They rant and rage in here all day long. You can find them doing it on the wow forums, the NW forums, and on every forum.
They usually want the same basic things: the ability to glitch, farm like bots, be considered epic, have their chosen class most powerful, and to have two factions, elves, orcs, dungeon queues, raids, and Blizzard making the game (but on the wow forums they even complain about the length of those queues, the various devs, and an assortment of other bits of crazy).
In game its pretty nice, but most folks won’t touch these forums with a norn-sized staff thanks to all of the crazy haters raging in here…
