So under what category are back items actually under? they can be crafted from armour-smith/leather/tailor… they also break of become damaged upon defeat, but they can not be used in the Mystic forge to change stats like you can with other armour sets (armour piece, 5 ectos, insignia and that thing from the npc)

i would like to change the stats of my ascended back item but there doesn’t seem to be a way to do so, unlike armour and weapons.

Back items are back items. They’re made by all crafting skills, not just armor crafts. Every single craft has its own unique set of skins.

It isn’t armor. It’s an accessory that is displayed.

Back items are a hybrid. They started out as something that rarely dropped, could not be crafted, and had only a few stat options. Over time, they’ve expanded the variety and sources.

I think it has to be considered as its own category:

  • It’s not a weapon, but (like weapons) it can’t be dyed.
  • It’s not armor, but (like armor) it can break.
  • It’s not a trinket, but it goes in a trinket slot.
  • Unlike armor & weapons, it can be infused (which is an opportunity to change stats, if the original offered a choice).
  • Unlike rings, it can’t be attuned.

If you infuse it, you can re-select the stats you want.

Hmm. That’s an idea I guess. That’s like 250 ectos though right?

I believe most, if not all, do… yeah…

You’d be better to double-check your back item to the wiki for the exact MF recipe: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ascended_back_item#Back_items_with_selectable_prefixes

You coud buy the Bloodstone fen capacitor back item. You can even select raid stats like Vipers on that one.

Infusing a back item always costs a stack of ecto. As far as I know the sole exception is Mawdrey, which substitutes some T6 dust (so little, it’s probably less than what you have under your bed).

And you can also buy the bloodstone capacitor and reset the stats of the items sold in Bloodstone Fen.

The other one is the bladed backpiece, which you can infuse in the same step as upgrading it to a colored version. Of course, that one costs way, way more than Mawdrey.

As far as i know, Bloodstone Fen, Ember Bay, Raid and legendary (pvp and fractal) backpieces are the only ones with new HoT stats. Bloodstone should offer you all possible ascended stat sets, including Marauder.

Ah, right. Good catch; I completely forgot about that one.

(And as Astralporing notes, the cores currently run 20-40 gold each, or 200-400 gold for 10, so they are much more expensive route for infusing than a stack of ecto method, which runs around 75 gold.)
