best 1v1 profession?

from some tournament videos I watched a lot of professions with good focus on pets. eg, beastmaster rangers, phantasm mesmers, minion master necros, and eles always has elemental on their elite. Although turret engi’s and spirit weapon guardians doesn’t appear to be as effective.

Fact: every Thief tells you to “l2p” when the subject is to nerf stealth.

it’s like a meta-profession, but it’s not too great at 1v1
are thieves any good in wvw?
In my somewhat limited experience in WvW, I get a lot more grief from poke-and-hide thieves than any other profession….
I don’t know if they’re actually any better (i.e. more damage) than any other profession, but it’s terribly hard to hit any foe you can’t see. Besides, they have decent damage.

These two are by far the best choices for 1v1. I’ve seen 10+ man zergs chase these classes around a map. Although I’ve seen mesmers die more often than thieves because of the “get out of jail free” stealth that thieves have.
Engineers are pretty capable. I’m playing condi-engineer and the only class I have actual trouble is with necros.
