best time- gold to gems?
just always keep an eye on the currency exchange, always. sometimes there’s massive spikes where one or the other is really cheap, capitalize on those moments.
Honestly it’s pretty difficult to determine when a good time to do this is.
Just have to go with what Xbon said, just keep an eye on the exchange rates until you’re comfortable with what they’re at.
Should be pretty obvious though, but never convert when there’s a blog post (or indication of any kind) that new items will be put in the gem store within a week.

I found it was pretty good just over a week ago. I put this down to a lot of people pre purchasing HOT with the 4k Gem bonus. I bought several hundreds of gems for 44 gold per 400. Since then the price has been steadily rising and I am assuming because that extra boost of gems from that sale has been steadily dropping.
Now when I watched the promo vid for HOT where they mentioned the different HOT packages I noticed the presenter made a note that with the best pack that “this is the first time we have offered gems at a sale price” I took note of that statement and took it to mean that in future they may do straight up sales for gems. THIS would be when you would want to convert gold to gems. If and when such sales happen or more situations where ppl buy packages like this HOT one where they got extra gems.
Keep your eyes open I guess is all I can say.
Ps I also bought the 4k HOT package but this did not stop me from buying more gems from gold at that lower price lol….

i remember not so long ago i bought caithe daggers for ~75g…
If you move the scale back to 2013 you can see it’s basically been a steady rise in gold cost per gem with spikes around the release of new BLTP items, but as a whole if you wait until the market dips (like it is right now) then you’re buying at about the best exchange you can get considering it won’t ever go back down, I realize this is a gem cost scale but the conversion is directly relative to the opposite.
I’m sure Wanze has some better info on this though.

The exchange trends up and it still has notably ups and downs. Right around Wintersday in 2013 and 2014, there was a noticeable drop (probably due to people getting gift cards for the holidays, among other reasons). In November, it was closing in on 20g/100 gems; by March or so, it has stabilized at ~15-16g/100, dropping as low as 13g/100 if you caught it at just the right moment (which usually lasted less than a few hours, if that).
In other words, watch the market. Buy low, sell high.
Gems pretty much only go up, speaking in a general sense. I remember buying my first character expansion slot with gold shortly after the game came out. The transaction was 800 gems for a mere 3 gold.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
First you need to see if you notice a pattern in the daily ebb and flow of the rate. Here is a link to a chart updated every 1/2 an hour.
Now new and returning items tend to be introduced at the store on Tuesdays so I buy Monday nights so IF there is something that’s popular in the Gem Store on Tueday, I can avoid the spike as everyone converts gold to gems (which will cause the rate to spike up). There was a time when they also had weekend sales but that hasn’t happen in a while but when it did Thursday nights was another time.
But you have to understand where I’m coming from. I convert currently 7% of my gold to gems every Monday right now like clockwork. It’s not a lot but it adds up over time.
