Specifically this line:

We’re very excited about the new content, and from the reactions we have seen, so are many of you.

Did the writer miss the biggest thread yet on this forum, 8000 pages of people complaining? We are not excited, we are in outrage. Well… granted that’s excited but in a very bad way that doesn’t want me to boot the game. I love this game and the launch+halloween content. I like the new island. But gear grind and level dungeons overshadows all that’s good in this game now. One drip of black paint completely taints a bucket of pristine white paint.

Seriously… work on your communication. This is the second big insult to players I’ve read in two weeks time. What’s next? I try to avoid calling names on arena.net devs and only talk about content but really… such communication are huge professional blunders.

8000 pages?

Also keep in mind that the vast majority of those posts were made of the same people and not everyone did complain.

That thread was only about ascended items, the new content was much more than that.
I am exited about the new map (and jp) and new dungeon.

Not to mention that there was a survey going about this content:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/eGW2LostShores_en

Which is likely where they base their blogpost on.
Which also is still open.

Though I have only just found this just now, I wish they advertised this better since I think this is indeed a good way of getting more objective feedback, rather than just hearing the forum side of things.

Then again maybe I missed it.

I’m also excited about the new map. It’s a very nice “strolling” and “hanging out” style of place. Definitely the most relaxing place in the game as of yet. But, as I said, the bad in the new content overshadows all the good. Level based dungeon grind … really? Gear farm? Come on…

I didn’t mind ascended if and only if it was intermediary to legendary and the final step but making an infused quiver is hardly an intermediary step. Furthermore fractals only makes sense after lvl10, where I may not get because I can’t even do lvl1 …

Like I said… the game as a whole rocked. I want to go for Mad Moon because it’s a skin, not stats. I want to go for legendary because it’s a statless skin. I want to grind my kitten off for either of those. I DO NOT want to grind out ascended gear.

Edit: I did the survey. Was purely about the weekend and not about the gear grind. I wrote I didn’t join the event because of a gear grind boycot which was indeed the case.

Yeah, I’m very much willing to wait for the whole new ways of getting ascended gear. I believe they intended to put all ways to get ascended gear in, in one big expansion pack type of idea.

That you can only get ascended gear through FotM feels very limited to me too, even though I very much enjoy doing it so. (I’m still not further than diff. 2) However I’m willing to wait out grinding for the fullest of maximum stats, just so they have time to put in more methods. Plus exotic gear already made alot of the content easy.

In a way I feel they need to address the issue with player progression to get ascended (or even legendary gear). Because rihgt now it doesnt feel that much fun to get the materials. Though, I haven’t gotten my 77 clovers yet for my legendary I already found this generates alot of the T6 materials. And in a way I feel that recipe could be improved and worked upon so that it makes less of an issue. (it takes a few skillpoints, mystic coins, karma and ectos atm)

If lucky clovers were useful for something else than legendaries for example.

Well, my idea was to get the clovers and precursor first, so the most difficult part is over. All the rest is just play4fun to get it.

I play for the experience and challenge of playing. I don’t want to be gated based on gear. I’d rather they put different levels of difficulty on all dungeons and balance them around the original exotic gear level.

You can still play all of the fractals either way. You don’t need to go into deeper difficulty levels.

I would think they would base their conclusions of how the players reacted to the content by looking at things like concurrency-rate, changes in #hours individuals logged, and how many people ran how many levels of FotM, how many visited the island.

It’s voting with your feet, and from what I saw a lot of people voted in favor. But I can’t tell how many people totally quit playing. ArenaNet can.
