boats/sailing...
We don’t have this and it’s a shame. I even tried to go from bloodtide coast to southsun and on the halfway to southsun a popup appears that you can’t go further. This EXTREMELY kills immersion. They really should make a) much bigger zones or b) connected zones without those silly portals. It kills immersion. And other MMOs did that more than 10 years ago…

Anet dont do boats. Claw Island is the only real moment you see a true dynamic boat in GW2 and unless they fixed it recently, it still look hilarious sitting many meters too low in the water (end mission cinematic, not the static boneship)

well you get to see one during the hydra queen fight, so they already have it in game. I just think it would be a nice touch to have these boats moving, even better you board it, and the boat sails off a little bit, loading screen, then sails in the lions arch harbor.
Even if no one even uses it, it still would make lions arch look more active.
Hihi, there is an upcoming sandbox MMO where you can sail on boats, where you can sail across the ocean and battle against other ships and get eaten by a kraken.
Archeeee i don’t remember the name of that upcoming game, i think it has something to do with my Age.

Yea lol, one small wave and that boat is down under.

Don’t argue with idiots, they pull you down their level and own you with experience.

Uh huh… and might I remind you that the upcoming game whose name you can’t remember is launching as “Free to Play”. Expect to pay a small “fee” every time you want to get on that boat. And despite what the devs may say otherwise, down the road F2P nearly always translates into P2W, just saying…

I’ve been messaged about this age arch thingy after starting this thread. It certainly looks interesting, I wonder if they have a high fantasy story.
I wouldn’t say I’m huge fan of sailing I just like the game world to be rich of life. The Anet design team do a kitten good job already (easily the best at of any MMO I’ve played), but I see no reason to rest on what they have, some of the best things are just simple additions.

The entire Kill Zhaitan mission where you’re aboard an airship is a dynamic boat. My character fell off the airship through a polygon during that mission and fell straight down. The ship really was moving away, indicating my character had been glued to the ship’s coordinate system while aboard, but reverted to the world coordinate system the moment she fell off.
I used to work at a company which networked simulators for the DoD, and that’s what you need to do to get moving platforms/formation flying right – create a second moving coordinate system and glue the players and mobs to that coordinate system. GW2 is actually one of the few games where I’ve seen it done right (most of the others are first person shooters with moving platforms, like Portal). Since their system already handles 3 degrees of freedom (x, y, yaw), it shouldn’t be that much harder for them to do it with 6 DoF (x, y, z, yaw, pitch, roll). It might look a little funny because the characters/mobs are all glued to the ship’s deck while it pitches and rolls (the 3 DoF they currently handle don’t change the direction of gravity). But they’ve already got the basic framework down.
Perhaps, but you’re talking about something, that would be more like a “free-movement transition phase” where you could move your character and it would replace the loading screens. I don’t know what it would be actually called tho.
Dunno if ANet’s gonna add something like that.
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.
