buying the gear
This would be a terrible idea “pay to win” = bad.
You aren’t meant to buy your way to the top, the store was designed for (mostly) cosmetic items and various boosters.
Curious.. Why do you need the armor if you don’t have the time needed to get it? Surely you also don’t have time to do anything with it either, right?
in a way you can buy gear in 3 easy steps.
Step 1: Buy gems with real money.
Step 2: Convert gems to gold.
Step 3: Buy the gear you want
edit: wait, new gear? ascended? and what? insight the rage of the grindfans?
we have to do things others may qualify as “evil”.

Everyone needs the best to pose around town don’t they?
The endgame grind was designed for cosmetic items Legendaries and skins now that changed why not. I’ve always been anti pay-to-win but seriously I don’t think it would hurt this game the way it is now it’s the only way to fulfil the casual friendly part and would give ANey more money than feeding locusts.

Yea I mean the new gear. I mean that a way for people like me who play causally but have the disposable income to get the gear and support the game.

It more of a looks thing. I don’t want to grind but I am willing to solve the problem with money.
No, no. No stat gear in the gem store, that’s a truly awful idea.
And no Happyfool, you can’t convert to gold and buy Ascended gear.
Ascended gear drops in the Fractals or requires crafting materials from the Fractals.

If nexon has anything to do with it, it will happen soon.
It’s already borderline pay2win with RMT → Gem → Gold to buy items to make Exo/Asc/Leg… Why not go the other half inch and just sell the gear. 5k Gem each piece is a bit much though. 800-1.6k per piece would be more appropriate and I’d enjoy swiping my Visa as opposed to grinding Fractals till I’m cross-eyed.
Since they’re trashing everything, might as well add the gear to the cash shop. Apparently there are plenty of suckers for this cheap f2p model that deliberately introduces tedious gameplay with a solution on the cash shop to every manufactured need. Apparently they can’t come up with anything of value, or they just go for the suckers because it’s easier.

Some people already have to get the mats to throw in the mystic forge to create the ascended backpack. So yes, this is do-able. I wouldn’t recommend it though.
You can buy a legendary with $$.
As yet, there’s almost no ascended gear in the game. As the only existing pieces are rings and back, there’s almost no benefit to having it at this point.
Presumably in the months to come there’ll be pieces worth getting, and new ways to get them.
But I think it’s silly to think you can’t get them if you don’t play very much. Let’s say you do 1 session of fractals per week. That’s really no different from someone who does 7 sessions of fractals each week, except that it’ll take you longer.
In the meantime, just buy the 5g wvw guild back and a couple exotic rings instead. Total will run you about 10g.

No you cannot. You can’t buy map completion, you can’t buy karma, you can’t buy WvW badges, you can’t buy dungeon tokens.
You can buy a precursor with $$ if you are mad enough to do so. It’s impossible to buy a legendary.
No, no. No stat gear in the gem store, that’s a truly awful idea.
Why not? Some people love to grind ingame, others prefer to grind in RL. Why should the first one have more fun in GW2 than the second?

Legendary weapons are tradable and there’s a firm selling completed ones.

It’s cheating. Your schedule is your own concern, making the game pay to win by putting stat gear in the gem store is the worst possible thing Anet could do.

You can’t use the fact that Chinese hackers illegally sell things as a argument for Anet making the game pay to win.

With that logic, why play guild wars when you could work a second job and still get the same benefits in the game? I’ll just list my preschool “diploma” on my resume, no need to attend harvard. You have to PLAY the game to progress in the game.
I think arenanet already started down the worst possible thing to do.

The logic is easy. I don’t play the game for benefits or progress. I play the game for fun. Grinding is not fun. I would love to skip this. Why do this upset you so much? You have the time to spend, I have money to spend. We meet with top gear in the game and have fun together.
PS: Please, do not let me be misunderstood. I spend no real money in this game since 13. November and I would hate to see the p2w mechanics here. But buying the ascended gear is not pay-to-win: it don’t give the guy with more money any advantages against the guy with more time.
Dude, you’re giving in to a cheap old dishonest f2p gimmick. They add the grind to make you pay for its removal.
In fact I already saw posts of people who bought gold for their exotics with cash and are complaining that they thought they would be “done” with it. Now you’re never done with it. You’ll keep paying for gear on a manufactured need created by the company, not real value. C’mon, self respect.
And yes as it currently is with WvW it will be pay to win. It is already pay to win, but you have to pay a lot and the gear gap it’s not that big so everyone is ok with it. Now the gear gap is bound to keep increasing, eventually it’s gonna be a scandal if they don’t isolate the gear grind from WvW.

Like I said before, they purposely designed the store from the get go to where you don’t get to be like that. You play the game for fun yes, but the point is you have fun by doing the content in the intended way. What’s fun about skipping all the content and having digital items that make you an equal to me, someone who spent 450 hours getting to where I am today?

You enjoy grinding in general and grinding of dungeons in special? Fine for you, but I don’t. In special case of GW and ascended gear I would not skip any content of GW except the repetitive running of one dungeon for 450 hours. I could wonderfully enjoy the remaining 99,9999% of the game.

I didn’t claim that GW is pay to win.
I simply claimed that with tradeable gear, and a gems/cash/gold shop, you can get it.
In particular, if you’re eager enough, you can buy your legendary (no matter the nationality/hacker assumption). And I’m sure if you don’t want to pay $$ for it, you could work out a deal where you pay them gold for it.
It doesn’t make the game pay to win, cuz you could certainly easily get a weapon that performs just as well without spending a dime.
I don’t enjoy grinding, nobody enjoy tedious gameplay! But I pay for games that respect me, that offer me real value, not bait me into bullkitten digital property. I pay for content, pay for fun. I pay for content that’s given to me in an honest way. But fine, go ahead, join the cash shop sucker crowd if they keep going that way. You’ll be funding the game so the target audience that is turning it into a grind can play for free.
I’ve been checking your posts, you don’t seen to be a troll, or maybe you’re disgruntled and came to waste everybody’s time. But if you’re that blind, I’m really sorry for you.

It’s not pay to win unless you can buy better stuff than you can get free. Time=Money. If the gem store offered gear with better stats than you could grind for, then it would be pay to win.
I see nothing wrong with being able to buy stuff that can also be obtained by grinding as long as the cost reflects the difficulty of the grind.
By “difficulty of the grind” you mean “tedious involved in the grind”. yeah because you are supposed to buy games because they’re tedious them pay more so they are fun again.
From my point of view, buying the gear from the gem shop is as abhorrent as grinding 400 hours for it. So, if one is in the game already, and people argue that would want to keep it that way, i see no reason why those that would want to straight buy the items should be treated any worse.
Certainly, the grinders could not possibly opose that suggestion.
Remember, remember, 15th of November

Exactly my point. If you say A you can as well say B.
It’s not about treating people worse or better. No one should be treated any different based on their playstyle; that’s preposterous. I’m trying to tell him that he paid for a game to have fun and they made it boring now, but instead of taking his money out of the game or staying and asking that it’s made fun again, he wants to pour more money into it. What he’s doing is not smart and is exactly what the usual greedy f2p model would want from him. It’s a model that rewards lame games that don’t sell real content. So what happens to the future quality of GW2 with a cash shop like this?
A cash shop model from low-budget moneygrab asian game? Is that what you want? Just stop and think Kathmandu, you’re smarter than that.
(edited by Harbard.5738)
i sunk a ton of money into a f2p game for a while. world of tanks. probably spent at least 50 bucks a month on that game for 8 straight months and had a ton of fun with it. There were also people who never spent a dime on the game that consistantly kicked my kitten. They had fun too. Everybody won.
I fail to see why cash shops upset people.

Was World of Tanks ‘pay to win’ or “pay to not grind your kitten off” or pay for better looking tanks, decals, stuff like that? How did the game fair? This is an honest question, not rhetorical. I’ve never played it.
I really love this game, it’s by far the best MMO around. However – the second that stat gear appears in the gem store I will resub to WoW, even though GW2 is currently the superior game and I hate cartoon panda’s.

You did really misunderstood me. I am absolutely with you that (max) stat gear in a cash shop sucks. But it sucks not more and not less than the necessity to grind for this (max) stat gear. Anet obviously introduces the grind treadmill to GW2, so they can as well put cash shop model to this game, too. The game wound not become worse because of it.

mostly it was pay to not grind your kitten off.
trade off was guys who bought their way up the tiers had way less skill on average than those who ground it out playing 4 times as many battles.
You could either play 200 battles in a tank to earn the next one, or pay money to unlock your free xp and do it in 50. There were cash only tanks, but they we’re generaly lower stats than their regular counterparts but earned you more credits Which also excelerated the grind. for the next tank. The tanks have 10 tiers andnone of the cash only tanks came higher than tier 8.
