I just bought this game yesterday, and got it all installed overnite.
I just tried to create a character on Darkhaven server and all 4 character names I wanted are taken.
So I went back to the server selection screen and it wouldn’t let me just change my “home” server without a “transfer than can only be used every 7 days”.

What’s up with that??

Because I never created a character how can I “transfer” to another server and THEN be stuck there for 7 days with no character if the name I want is taken yet again.

This makes no sense.

I am assuming I’m missing something here or maybe misunderstanding the dialog boxes.
Just seems idiotic that I can’t keep selecting a realm until I find one with at least one of the character names I want.

Names are shared cross-server so a transfer wouldn’t help you.

Because of wvw you cant transfer servers all the time.

And btw names are game wide so there is absolutely 0 point in switching servers to get your name. For instance i am the only Sunset in game. Not just my server or NA servers…the entire game.

Character names are global, you can’t just change servers and get a different name. If you have a character listed in the select screen, just delete it and choose a different server. If you don’t and can’t select a server, try exiting and login again.

If you delete all characters, you can transfers servers for free, but it won’t do you any good in this instance, for the reasons people have given.

A tip: The game accepts accented characters in character names, as well as multi-part names. So instead of “Eddard Stark” you could have any of these:

Eddárd Stark
Éddard Stark
Eddärd Stark
Èddard Stark

Or combine any of the accents in the name, for hundreds of combinations.

OR you could go wild and invent an actually original name for your character, instead of copying famous IPs.
