This is the one item in the game I think is unlikely to ever be made available again. It was only available during the headstart weekend and was supposed to be a way to prove you were there right at the beginning of the game.

I certainly wouldn’t object to them making it available again. I know I was there for the headstart, I don’t care if anyone else believes me so I don’t need a way to prove it to them. But I can imagine a lot of people would be upset if it was made available again.

(Also FYI your post would be a lot easier to read if you included some punctuation. Even just full stops so we can tell where one sentence ends and another begins would make it a lot clearer.)

I’m not a starter gw2 player and i love that hat…. BUT!!! I say no. That’s a special item given to you to celebrate a very very special event. They can’t give it to others imo…. but i love that hat :P

If they were going to, they probably would have done so with HoT. They could have had a new hat for every expansion with the different logos.

It was only available during the headstart weekend and was supposed to be a way to prove you were there right at the beginning of the game.

Was available for a few weeks.

This item should never come back. It was a reward for people who were there at the beginning

Thank you for saying this. I felt the same about the annual Halloween & Wintersday hats in GW1 — several that I loved and yet I was disappointed once I was able to obtain them for myself; I liked being able to tell who has been at which events and what year.

As long as the game has only a tiny list of had-to-be-there-at-the-right-time skins, I think it makes things more fun.

Ah, I suspect what’s gotten me confused is that I played the headstart weekend, then I was away for over a week (so I missed the actual launch day which was a shame). I know it was gone by the time I got back.

I agree with those that said this should not be made available again. Which brings up the larger issue of other exclusive items.

There have been many items that were supposed to be event specific and some that players had to work hard to obtain. Much later, to my dismay, Anet decided to make them available in other ways. i.e. Laurels, etc.

To me, it cheapened the time I invested obtaining the item. It also made the item commonplace and significant for nothing.

I think there is nothing wrong with and even motivational for people to attend specific events that have exclusive items and work to get them. Those items should stay exclusive.

What Laurels are you referring to?

I can think of 2 possibilities but neither of them was an event item:

  • The currency – this used to be awarded for completing daily and monthly achievements, then moved to login rewards.
  • The Wreath of Cooperation which is a normal gem store item and is available periodically like all the rest.

I can think of several off the top of my head. I’m sure there are more. They were things you got by completing specific event achievements. Now you can get them for laurels and gold.

Some I can think of are:
Fervid Censor
Infinite Watchknight Tonic
Several minis. Miniature Ellen Kiel comes to mind.
The Zephyrite Helm skins.
Etc.

Ah ok. I misunderstood your post. I thought you were saying there were laurels given out as an event reward, not that event rewards are now purchased with laurels.

Honestly it doesn’t bother me when they do that. I think I basically disassociate the two things – the benefit of having been there for a particular event is the memory I have of doing it. The benefit of having the items it awarded are that I like having and using them (if I do like them). The two are entirely separate to me. So it doesn’t bother me if someone else is able to get the same items, I’m happy they’re able to have and use something they’ll enjoy.

It’s the same with titles. I tend to forget where they come from and I just use whichever one suits my character or what they’re doing. Then I get confused when people comment on where it came from. For example I wonder why they’re suddenly going on about the pros and cons of pre-purchase as a follow up to noticing my “I’m just out here exploring the jungle” title (Maguuma Trailblazer).

Enjoy your cap hun…you earned the right to wear it!
If anyone asks about it- tell them you were indeed at the right place, at the right time!
It is one of the items I enjoy seeing in game, and with the t-shirt, it’s perfect!

I have Splinter Barrage- I am a Ritualist.
I have a pet- I am a Ranger.
I have Avatar of Balthazar- I am a Dervish.

I think I’ve worn mine once since those early days. If people like a ballcap, Anet should offer one similar. Maybe with the expansion’s logo?

Ha! I have it unlocked, and today, when looking through a character’s inventory, found one (and some Devil Horns) that still said to visit the NPC to unlock the town clothes.

Lol.

I just wish they’d make it available for the people who had one but accidentally deleted it before the wardrobe system was activated.

Same, although I suspect a ticket to Support may make it available for us. Not that I remember it mind you and I’ve been in since headstart. I never delete items, so I’m wondering if there was another criteria for it.

Since they don’t/didn’t have the data to do Account Restorations to a time before December of 2012, maybe they don’t have that information^.

I’d rather there were items that spoke to special events, just like in Guild Wars.

Lol, we should get something for experiencing Guild Wars 2’s growing pains, just like Raiders or PvPers get something now. =P

Just becouse you had an account and logged on during that time dont mean you claimed the hat/horns etc.

That’s a distinction with a difference, for me anyhow.

  • If someone had claimed the skin from the BL shop (for free), then I hope everyone agrees that they should have it unlocked in the wardrobe.
  • If for some reason, they didn’t claim the skin at the time, are we really going to say that they didn’t meet the criteria for having it unlocked? I suppose technically, they missed the critical step. But … in the long run, they were present at the right time and right place, so they meet the noteworthy requirements.

Put another way, I think anyone who logged at the time is just as deserving of the unlock as those who did everything correctly and those who got the hat/horns but deleted them before the wardrobe.

Since they don’t/didn’t have the data to do Account Restorations to a time before December of 2012, maybe they don’t have that information^.

I can’t imagine that they don’t have any data from 2012. They keep all sorts of logs. I suspect that they didn’t have the old data stored in a way that made account restoration feasible.

Maybe it is still stored that way. I’ve not seen an announcement that they could do ARs from that time period.

Still, it’s not like we often get notification when policy changes, either.

Regardless, some one posted that the CS Team sent them one, so it doesn’t matter, does it? Looks like a request is all that’s needed (even if it takes more than one). =)

Have you tried visiting the Black Lion Trader (Armorsmith) on every single character to make sure all the town clothes they were wearing got converted?

When the wardrobe was introduced the town clothes tab was hidden but any clothes you had equipped were (and are) still there. Talking to the Armorsmith will convert them to armour skins or tonics and put them in your inventory. But it only does it for the character you’re logged into, so you have to speak to them on every single character to get all your clothes back.
