havent played this game for some time now.
after getting a face mask that is better then my current one, for some odd reason it is not available in my wardrobe. also i have found out that some of my older clothing have the same value than my latest gear. is that a bug or is every clothing now up to date with my level 80 character?

im really confused now and also once you change, i have to pay real money to change back? also i have seen that there is some additional clothing of armor and weapon. cant remember ever buying it or taking it from a fallen enemy. the weapon one looks pretty neat with this huge sword but i cant untick the mask.

also there are some gear and clothing i have to unlock but it requires me to go in to the germ store. any chance i can unlock them without any germs? im afraid to change clothing now in case the gear i have is worse and i have less health.

i feel lost with all these changes. is that normal for MMOs to make changes like these? this game is my very first MMO and even since i play it since release, i still feel like a greenhorn.

i would appreciate some clarification. i just feel lost with all these changes.

Putting the mask on is the same as always – Equipment tab in the Hero panel (Have item in inventory → Press H → Click on Equipment → Drag gear to the right slot).

Wardrobe is for skins (the look of an item) only. It’s the replacement for transmutation stones. To add the skin to the wardrobe, right click the item and select ‘Unlock Skin’. This makes the item account bound – you can’t sell it on the TP – and puts the skin in your wardrobe so that you can transmute it to another item later if you want.

Not sure what you mean by ‘some of my older clothing have the same value than my latest gear’. GW2 doesn’t have a gear treadmill, so the gear tiers always stay the same. If you mean, you already have the skin in your wardrobe, that just means that you used a piece of gear with that skin (i.e. looks the same) as the one in your inventory. Many items share the same skins, so that’s not unusual. Skins can’t be unlocked more than once, since they’re just how an item looks.

The gem store sells quite a few skins. You can use the currency exchange to trade in-game gold for gems and get the skins that way, but it’s expensive.

im wondering why it doesnt show a comparison from what you are wearing with the once you have in your wardrobe. i have 2 coats in my wardrobe and it just tells me what it is but no other status for what level it is, the pros and cons, etc.
also, why the hell cant i sell them on the lion trading shop? i can sell them to just a normal NPC seller.

Okay, you’re not reading what I’m saying.

The wardrobe doesn’t have equipment in it.

It has cosmetic appearance items in it.

There are no stats on the items, because they’re not real items. They’re just a paintbrush to change what your armor looks like. If you click on the top panel where it says “Hero: Wardrobe” you’ll get to a menu that has an option for equipment, and that’s where you can see what you have in your inventory to equip.

The two coats you see in your wardrobe are just to change the appearance of what you’re wearing.

I really don’t know how to make this more clear.

You can’t sell some items on the trading post after you’ve used them. It will say “Soulbound” or “Account Bound” near the bottom when you hover over the item. Some of these items can’t be sold to vendors, either.

ok, now i understand it. sorry that i didnt clearly understood you before. i just started to play this game after a very long break and then i have to see these changes.

This conversation took place back at the end of May. I realize it’s been about six months, but you can review all your old posts by clicking on your own username.

@gilosean
thats what i did. i pressed H but that new mask is not there. also pressed the “hero” icon on the top left corner. i guess i will never understand this new option of the wardrobe. wish it would be just like it was before when i got the game.

what i mean with value is, that it has the same number of protection, for what level it is, health, etc. so the information of the clothing what it does. same as with weapons. and for changing this i have to pay.

@guhraci
lol. knew i had something like this before but i was more wondering about the mask issue i have and why it asked me to pay for it. but also that i forgot it as well after taking a long break again.
i really hate these changes they have made.

thanks to you both. i try it out later.

maybe do a print screen and show us what you mean mate, is the mask a skin in your inventory you have to apply, is it an item you can just click and wear.
Or is it a item you want to unlock to wear over the item you wear now.

If the mask is in your inventory, but it is not shown in your equipment screen, that means there is some condition that prevents you from equipping it. The equipment screen only displays items that your character can actually equip.

Locate the mask in your inventory, hover your cursor over it, and look at the description. Is there any text highlighted in red?

Also, don’t ever pay money to change the appearance of an item. The transmutation charges required to do that are very easy to come by in the game, there is no need to pay money for them.

the germ store.

If that wasn’t intentional, it’s the best accidental analogy of microtransactions ever!

I’m not entirely sure I understand your post, but I’m going to try and explain. If I’ve misunderstood anything please let me know. This is also going to be a long post so I apologise for that. I’ve tried to format it so it’s easy to skip irrelevant bits.

Brief Overview of the Hero Panel
More info here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hero_Panel

There are 3 tabs on the Hero Panel that relate to what your character is wearing:

Equipment – This is for changing the actual weapons and armor you use and looking at your stats. You can see the armor you’re wearing, the weapons you have equipped and also your trinkets and gathering tools.

Anything in your inventory that you can equip will appear in the box on the left. If it’s not in your inventory or can’t be used by your character (because it’s the wrong type of armor or weapon, or the level requirement is too high) then it won’t show up.

Wardrobe – This is only for changing your skins. You’ll notice that the box showing your stats is gone, as are your trinkets and gathering tools (because they don’t have skins). If you hover over a piece of your equipment you can still see it’s stats however.

If you click on any piece of equipment the box on the left will show you available skins. These aren’t items in your inventory, they’re appearances you’ve unlocked by using them before (or salvaging/destroying an item that used them).

None of them have stats because they are just a skin. I think of changing skins in the wardrobe as like changing the cover on your phone – it doesn’t change what kind of phone it is or what it can do, it just makes it look different.

Outfits – These are like fancy dress costumes you wear ‘over’ your armor. They also don’t have any stats, they’re just clothing. When you wear them you’re also still wearing your armor (but it’s invisible) and get the stats from that.

You also have to buy them from the gem store before you can actually wear them.

after getting a face mask that is better then my current one, for some odd reason it is not available in my wardrobe.

If you’re looking at the wardrobe tab then that’s your problem. You need to make sure you’re on the equipment tab and then the new mask should appear, along with any other useable equipment in your inventory.

If it doesn’t try hovering your mouse over the mask in your inventory. If there’s any red that that will tell you what the problem is. Most likely it’s either the wrong armor type for your character or it has a level requirement and you haven’t yet reached that level.

If it’s the wrong armor type then you’ll never be able to use it and should either give it to another character who can or sell or salvage it. If the level requirement is too high you can keep it until you level up and equip it then.

also there are some gear and clothing i have to unlock but it requires me to go in to the germ store. any chance i can unlock them without any germs?

This sounds like outfits. As I explained above they have to be bought from the gem store to be used, but they’re just skins, they won’t affect your stats at all. There is no reason to buy them unless you like how that specific outfit looks.

There are also weapon and armor skins sold in the gem store, but I don’t think you’d be looking at those because locked skins don’t appear in the wardrobe tab and if you look through the whole wardrobe in your bank (which does show locked skins) it doesn’t tell you where they come from or prompt you to open the gem store.

The gem store doesn’t sell any equipment with stats so you never have to spend real money to get better gear.

im afraid to change clothing now in case the gear i have is worse and i have less health.

There is no reason to worry about changing your gear. If you use the wardrobe or buy an outfit you are only changing the skin it won’t affect your stats at all.

If you use the equipment tab to actually swap one piece of gear for another you can compare the stats on both side by side before you do, so you can make sure it’s better, and you won’t lose the one you’re replacing, it will go into your inventory.

i feel lost with all these changes. is that normal for MMOs to make changes like these? this game is my very first MMO and even since i play it since release, i still feel like a greenhorn.

I haven’t played many but from what I’ve seen it is normal for them to change things every so often. It can be confusing at first but there’s usually resources like the wiki and other players to help.
