I made a character for the demo that I ended up really liking it but today after the demo is over, I went to create the same character I used for the demo in the Main game but it says the name is already in use. Were the characters created from the demo a separate things where repeated named could be used or is it because I used the name for the demo char. so now I cant use it anymore because it was used for my demo char. which i cant delete now?

Names are reserved for 24 hours, so you might try again later. If it does not become available after 24 hours, you might have to wait until 24 hours after the next Beta Weekend.

Not sure if that works for beta characters
If you have a spare slot, just reserve the name, until you make the actual character. On that day, delete it, the name is saved for 24h

I don’t think the demo allowed you to use a pre-existing character name, or at least I couldn’t create a character with the same name as one I already had. My bet is that they haven’t cleaned up demo characters at this point to allow people to use their same characters for the elite spec weekend (next weekend), but that is also just a guess.

Yeah, I would image the Demo Chars are still there just not visible to us until the next Beta weekend

Yeah but when it’s your character, it is saved for you, and you can still use it again even if you deleted your character 2 minutes ago.

So I hope our character will be available the next beta weekend..

^With regular characters, that is so. Who knows with Demo characters, since it is a ‘copied’ account, and may be considered a different account? Most likely, though, those characters are still viable in the database. Still, it’s not been 24 hours since the demo ended, yet.

It’s possible the demo characters have just been hidden and are being kept while Anet go through feedback and gather stats of their own. They can apparently pull a lot of info on our accounts when they need to, like exactly which items we got as drops, when, whether it was salvaged etc. but it’s possible that’s tied to the character and once they’re deleted that data is wiped.

If I was you I’d try making a new character 24 hours after the beta ended (which I think is in about 5 hours time, but I’m not sure exactly), and if that doesn’t work try again just before the next beta weekend, or during the weekend if we don’t get the same characters back.

The good news is since the name was free before the beta it’s highly unlikely anyone else will take it in the time between it becoming free again and you getting it. So I don’t think you need to worry about knowing exactly when the character will be deleted, just try periodically and if you still can’t get it after the next beta maybe contact Support and ask if they can find out what’s going on.

Update I was able to reuse the name today

Oh hmm, I guess that means we didn’t get to keep our previous demo alts to tweak with the new elites. Oh well, I’ll just have to spend the time again designing a face I like, selecting gear, transmuting … fashion matters! And I’d have to do it eventually anyway, testing 9 elites with 2 slots will mean plenty of rerolling

Same here and just just checked. Was trying to use my demo name since the demo ended on a regular character but got the name is used error. I’ve tried it every day since the demo ended and finally it works. Thanks for the heads up.

I think the elite spec preview weekend is only in PvP areas, but i could be wrong

Oh, I know it’s only in PvP/WvW but I was hoping to have already made an alt to test an elite with since I spent a good while creating her and sorting out the armor No reason she couldn’t have been moved over there, hey? But then, it might be more annoying to have to delete before making, for those who used both demo slots. There’s something to be said for a clean slate. And who knows, maybe full Viper isn’t the right thing to toss on a Scourge.

I can still see beta characters on gw2 efficiency, and… I can not use names of my beta characters. Could you please clear these characters (beta slots) so we can use it on our normal characters?

In essence, it says they have yet to clear the Demo/Beta characters off the accounts.
