Q:
character slot after HOT launch ?
A:
Yea its a prebuy insentive, but i think aslong as you buy it before launch and apply it as soon as 30 mins before launch you should get the slot.
I don’t think there going to be any word on this till after release and that makes perfect sense too.
it’s just shameful ….
Why is it shameful?
would you announced something that comes after a game release when your offering pre buy orders now? also, we don’t know what will come after launch, they may just stick how it is now, with a charcter slot, but 100% sure you get one now at preorder.
scandalous to not have the extra slot even after the release of HOT for Veteran players when you buy this extension ….

Why wouldn’t veteran or loyal players pre-purchase. Surely that’s what veteran and loyal players would be doing by their very nature.
Still not understanding where the shameful or scandalous nature is
Cause people may want to wait to know more detail the content of the extension before buying?

Which is legitimate, which is why pre-purchase lasts up until launch.
I mean if you aint going to buy it before release so your there at start you might aswell wait for a sale after launch and save enough money to buy the character slot anyway.

What’s wrong with holding off and waiting for reviews of the expansion post launch? That sounds like something a smart buyer would do. I couldn’t tell you how many games I have bought without waiting for reviews that looked good but turned out to be crap.
also you can’t say for sure what they will do after the launch of the game, but at the same time, they should and have given a bonus to buying it early. A charcter slot is not important, but I for one am happy to get one, and I may end up buying one soon too, as I just made my 5th official charcter. well, 4th and an extra bank, lol.

Absoltuely nothing wrong with that at all. But, the idea behind a pre-purchase bonus is to tempt people to order early. Plus with beta weekends due, I expect to see reviews earlier than launch, in the same way they were with the core game.
The point in hand is whether it is scandalous or shocking. It isn’t at all. It’s expected practice for an mmo or in fact many games to offer something like this exclusive to a pre-purchase.
Ok i see your point ! :O but !!!
Don’t you think it is legitimate to claim an extra slot since even if HOT is purchased after launch, a veteran remains a veteran. And another point: don’t you think that since HOT adds a new class it is also legitimate to request an additional slot? (which would be in the logic of ARENANET as did for gw1, and although the 2 is not the same game, it remains its sequel)
And orry fo my english, this is not my native language ! ;x

I guess I was talking about “Why wouldn’t veteran or loyal players pre-purchase. Surely that’s what veteran and loyal players would be doing by their very nature.”.
Just because you’re a veteran or loyal player doesn’t mean you will throw your money at them without knowing what you will be receiving.
If this is a veteran bonus it should be available to veterans whether they prepurchase or make a smart decision and wait for reviews. It instead turned into an incentive to prepurchase and seemingly has nothing to do with helping veterans.
Veteran is a word thrown about a lot on the forums. usually loosely and without understanding the use of the word either and how it applies. As someone who has been here since headstart and was with GW1 1 year after that launched I’m not entirely sure I understand the relevance of being a veteran or at least in this scenario.
A character slot is claim I can understand, but in the context of the sales quota they are expected to meet before launch I can understand also why they wouldn’t offer it post-launch either. Hence why I say it is neither scandalous or shameful, which really was my point anyway.
+1 Fernling ! you take away the words of my mouth: D

This comes back to how one defines a veteran. Age? Playtime? Does a player who bought at launch, played for 6 months and came back 2 months ago count?
A pre-purchase campaign, a marketing campaign and sales figures can’t make such a distinction.
their marketing is bad so ….
Perhaps, in the translation from the official announcement, a word or two was left off. A bit of shorthand when conveying what was stated.
It is a bonus/nod/acknowledgement for Veteran pre-purchasers.
Because, really, the complaint seemed to be, at onset, that there was no special, fair, acknowledgement for those ‘Veterans’ that wanted to pre-purchase the expansion, as opposed to ‘new’ players that were pre-purchasing.
Regardless, no one but ArenaNet knows what will be offered after release. And even that might change.
Good luck.

“Veteran Player Appreciation
For our long-standing fans and loyal players, we would like to say thank you and show our appreciation. For all players who registered the core Guild Wars 2® game prior to January 23, 2015 and who upgrade their account by prepurchasing and registering any Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns edition before Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns‘ launch, we will add one additional character slot to your Guild Wars 2 account. The process of delivering your additional character slot will take us some time, but rest assured we will get it to you as soon as possible. We’ll provide more details about the specific timing soon."
It seems to me that they consider anyone that bought the game before January 23rd, 2015 and pre-purchases the game without waiting for more information/reviews to be a veteran player.
I do believe that if they really want to show their “veteran” players appreciation like they say they do, they should allow them to be smart consumers and wait until post launch to make sure the expansion is worth their money. Forcing them to pre-purchase a game without knowing all the content(this part will likely change before launch) and knowing if the content is good enough to pay $50 in order to receive the veteran bonus is silly.
It doesn’t matter to me, really. I am going to pre-purchase the expansion for the bonuses anyways. I definitely see where the concerns come from, especially from those that have trouble paying $50. It just feels like Anet is throwing around this veteran crap in order to boost their prelaunch sales. It has nothing to do with them actually appreciating the “veteran” players.
