No, this is not another whine thread about the lack of farming opportunities. Please don’t make it into one. Whether what we do is right or wrong isn’t important at this point. It’s the fact that we do it.
Back in GW1, one of the things we (my guild and I) loved to do was farm for “unique” boss drops. We outfitted our whole guild with “greenies” and named items, and it was fun all around.
In my opinion, farming for something worthwhile was worth ever hour we spent.
So, here we are in GW2. Farming is still fun (sometimes) but in truth, what are we farming for? Mats? Exotics to salvage/sell? bags of stuff? In essence, all we are farming for is a way to make money, however we choose to farm it.
Therein lies some of the problem. When it’s easier and more lucrative to fail events or run through a dungeon with higher drop rates, we will continue to run into the issues we had with Ember Farm and CoFp1.
The question I have for you is this: Why don’t you give those of us who enjoy some farming something to farm for?
The champs that spawn could still drop whatever they drop, but make it worthwhile to finish events or run other paths. Give the final “boss” something unique that you can only get through finishing him/her off. Don’t sell it in the gem shop, and don’t offer it up as a RNG lottery. Make it a reasonable chance of dropping, and let us farm away.
For Instance: Final Rest – It’s a unique staff skin, with decent (not perfect) stats that drops somewhat regularly from the Shadow Behemoth. I farmed the heck out of that event until I got one. I had a blast doing it, but if it ever shows up in the gem store or as a random BL chest drop, I would be sad. I put a lot of effort into getting it, and I am proud of it. Probably more proud than anything else I have gained through a drop.
I would be much more likely to participate in other major (world) events and go champion hunting if we had something like this to work for. I always thought it would be cool to farm the Hylek Priestess in Brisbane for a froggy scepter a la GW1. or farm the skelk in Mt. Maelstrom for a lizard shield… or farm the Giant in Melchor’s for a hammer…or any other wandering “non-event” champion for their unique drop.
What say you all? would you be more willing to finish events and/or hunt champions if they dropped unique offerings?
Thanks for listening.
