Q:

i have a noob question. let’s say i applied a bleed that does 100 damage over 5 seconds (20 dps). if i have something that has +condition duration (ex. 1s), would it turn out as 100 damage over 6 seconds (16.67, lower dps) or 120 damage over 6 seconds (still 20dps, extra tick of bleed)?

i’m wondering because if condition duration would only extend the condition’s duration not give extra ticks, it would only help for conditions like cripple and chill, but would lower the dps of burning and bleed. if i would build around bleed and burn, then i might avoid condition duration so i can deal the whole damage in a shorter amount of time.

A:

Extending the duration increases the total damage. Condition duration would be a fairly bad stat to take otherwise. You can see on the page for Burning: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Burning

Burning damage is determined by the following formula:

4.1 * Level + 0.25 * Condition Damage per second

Increasing the number of seconds will increase the total damage.

I’m not sure what happens if you have “half a tick” left. (If a tick is one second, what happens if the duration is 5 and 1/2 seconds?)

oh. so let’s say i have burn for 5 seconds, have +20 condition damage and i’m level 80:

with +0 condition duration:
((4.1 * 80) + (0.25 * 20)) * 5 = 1665 total damage

with +1 condition duration:
((4.1 * 80) + (0.25 * 20)) * 6 = 1998 total damage

thank you for answering instead of flaming/trolling. i appreciate it.
