difference between ascended trinkets
The WvW ones cost less laurels, but require some BoH, but other than that I believe the stats are the same. As to the AR infusion, all I can think of is that they just meant an infusion. There are infusion available for laurels and BOH, which are slightly better than the laurel only ones, but these offer no AR iirc.
They’re both the same, regardless of which merchant you bought it from. The only difference is cost.
Perhaps your friends meant the infusions themselves, not the slots in the trinkets? WvW infusion are different from others, but the upgrades are catered for WvW, not AR.
Edit:
The first ring has a WvW infusion. Stat upgrades but no Agony resist. Second has a versatile simple agony resistance. No stat upgrade but it has AR. The 3rd ring has two slots: a Simple infusion and +5 AR. Crafted AR infusions can only go into AR slots in infused rings – the second slot. This is a list of all the different types of infusions that can go into the first slot: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Infusion
Some infusions can be crafted in the MF to include both AR and stats – but they only go into the primary slot. If you don’t care for AR upgrades, the the WvW infusions are better. But if you do want AR, you need to craft your infusions, or use the versatile simple infusion.
Alternatively, rings (both normal and infused) can drop in WvW and fractals. If you bought a ring with the stats you wanted, don’t feel bad about ‘wasting’ laurels. You can’t pick stats on ascended trinkets obtained through RNG.
