play for 20 minutes, get DR, don’t play for over an hour until DR goes away.

is that how arena.net wants the game to be?

i would happily spend hours farming my legendary mats, but taking over 5 events to get one reward is ridiculous. worst of all: DR is global. you get DRd on one map, you’ll get DRd on them all.

seriously, WTF? they already took away our dungeon gold farming, now they won’t even let us farm the mats? do they just want legendaries to be impossible to craft? or do they want people to buy gems to get them?

DR is not account wide. Switch to another character and it won’t have DR.

I find it highly unlikely that you’re experiencing true DR, based on what has been said about DR in the past.

The only DR i know of is Divinity’s Reach, but unless you are planning a terrorist attack on Kryta’s capital, i don’t think you are talking about the city. So, what’s DR?

Diminishing returns. It’s the point at which the game decides you’ve done so much of the same thing that you might be a bot, therefore it lessens the rewards.

No worries! If you don’t ask, how will you find out? According to ANET, it rarely happens to your average player.

Map Bonus have a very quick DR threshhold.. I usually hit it in half an hour and start getting less and less map bonus.

When Mr Smith commented to that effect he seemed to be specifically referencing drops. Did he expand his point to include the XP as mentioned in this thread? And, do we know whether or not such was modified for the new maps?

I am really very curious about this.

Not only that, but it was made well over a year ago, if not closer to 2. As far as I know, he never commented on experience, but I took it to mean the entire phenomena of DR, personally. However, you’re right that there’s a great deal we don’t know about DR and the evolution of it since the original statements were made.

Somehow I don’t think it was modified for the new maps. Every time I go play Dragon’s Stand I get less and less XP for events towards the end, so it doesn’t seem to be adjusted to at least not kick in for one play through of the meta.

I’m curious. How do you know when you receive one of the Map Bonus Rewards items? As far as I know, they just drop into your inventory with no special ID.

Without DR. It takes exactly 2 events to get one map reward.

With DR, it takes 4~8 depending on your DR level.

Hmm…I guess one could tell if one did not get a Map Bonus Reward, but never (except for those odd valuable trophies) if one did.

Also, it doesn’t take exactly two events, as some content is worth more than DEs (unless you mean only DEs, of course).

. . . you can see it if you set a window to log your “drops/pickups” or whatever. It will log EVERY item you get, even through map bonus or bonus chests. Given the Map Bonus items are chosen from a small subset, it becomes easier to pick them out.

It’s still not easy to parse unless you’re keeping track of the log in the corner of receiving things.

Yet, what drops from Map Bonus Rewards also drops from mobs. I suppose if a mob never drops whatever bonus reward shows up, you can be sure it is a bonus reward, and not usual loot.

I always watch what shows up in the log, or on the side, but I rarely know which are bonus rewards, unless it’s that one trophy.

Truly, it makes little difference to me; I haven’t experienced any DR since that one time when Starter Zone Champ Trains were still a thing.

I hope others find a solution that is pleasing to all, though. =)
