do you like music and voice acting?
I thought they were fine.
They’re not exactly the focus of the game.
I’ve already disabled the music in favor of internet radio, but I had music on for the entire leveling process, and might turn it back on if/when I run another dungeon.
As for the voice acting, it’s a refreshing change from TOR, while still actually offering it, as opposed to say WoW. TOR paid a tremendous price for its emphasis on cutscenes and voice acting, and I feel that Arena.net struck a reasonable balance here.
I mute all these things anyway.
I’d rather have my own music or a TV show / movie on in the background. The only thing I keep are the sound effects of combat, etc so I can tell if I’m attacked while not paying attention.
in the list of developers I have the least faith & trust in.
Congratulations ArenaNet!
You know what? I think the score/music is epic, but it has started to get tiring.
I’ve replaced the entire thing with the Final Fantasy 11 soundtrack and it is much better to be honest. I really prefer the fact that in that game each zone had its own unique theme/song. They looped constantly and were high quality catchy pieces of music that have stuck with me to this day, despite not having played the game for years.
No knock on J.Soule or his music, but it just doesn’t have the same hook to it. So yea, it was good at first but got a bit stale. As for the voice acting — it is spotty. Some is real good, some is terrible.
I have the entire game muted a lot because I’m often either listening to my own music or my husband is watching a movie right behind me.
But when It’s on I like it. The female Sylvari voice was a bit jarring at first because that was not at all how I imagined my character speaking, but I’ve gotten used to it.
I do like to have the music on for the Vistas because I feel like it makes the whole thing look more dramatic or impressive.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
The voice acting is fine imo. I love the music!!
I like most of the voice acting and music; sometimes the VA falls down, but usually it’s very solid and I enjoy the talking head thing as being so much different from what we usually get in MMOs.
I’m sorry I stepped outta yer box, don’ worry, if
ya whine enough they’ll put me right back.
I enjoy myself more with music muted. The music is okay, don’t get me wrong, but the sound design on this game is amazing and you never hear 90% of it when you have music running. (Music takes your focus and makes background sounds run together.)
Also, I have to agree with the poster above… the soundtrack is by no means up to FFXI.
The voice acting is mediocre. Some voice actors did really well, you can tell they put a lot of passion into it, even when it was just random chatter. Others… well, others read their lines, I guess.
The music is amazing.
Destiny’s Edge voice acting was splendid.
However towards orr you feel like they ran out of budget.
One woman does 3 voices and she doesnt even try to hide it.
Caithe and Eir are the same person BOOM MIND BLOW
But Captain Jayne, Merry (pirates wife) and Priestess of Grenth are the same person with that annoyingly optimistic high voice which makes me wanna do horrible things.
The music is great.
The voice acting is great, some people better than others, if you separate the work from what they are asked to say.
The story itself, is ‘barely’ acceptable (to me), but acceptable. I just think of it as part of the ‘style’ of the thing. The dialog is often times reminiscent of old cartoons that would teach you how to be a good person.
And speaking of style, I totally bought into the ‘puppet theater’ style of dialog. I was sold the first time I saw it in BWE1. No, it’s not as flashy as something like TSW (or even SWTOR), but it’s ‘very’ practical and scalable, and it has its own personality.
I like the majority of the voice acting especially those who performed as members of destiny’s edge. Although when i listen to Trahearne, i can hear the room the voice actor is standing in color the recordings.
As always, Jeremy Soule’s compositions are suitable and brilliant.

Music is unmatched, however the voice acting ranges from decent to terrible. I can’t even play my male sylvari, the voice is so irritating and unfitting and awful. This game isn’t mostly about the story though i’ve found out.
Music is almost all great, and the VOs are good for the most part as well.
However, every once and a while, you get a REALLY bad VO that is extremely jarring -_-
“A release is 7 days or less away or has just happened within the last 7 days…
These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”
The music is alright, but it’s kind of lame that almost every single area uses the same music. And the voice acting, while it be decent, is extremely cheesy many times throughout the game, whether it be skills, or story mode. All in all, it’s tolerable
I enjoy the music when it plays a good tune, but I wish I could choose which tune it played in specific regions to match the setting. As for the VA it’s meh, I’d honestly prefer to pick my own voice at the beginning of the game rather than listen to my character talk in the cutscenes.
