i was getting 1 bonus for every 2 or so events, after DR hit, it was taking about 4 or 5 events per reward

is this normal?

Unfortunately, yes. It prevents farming of the map rewards… which seems a little counter-intuitive, since I though that the point of the map bonuses were to give reliable ways to farm rare items :P
